일부 농업인에서의 농약 중독증상과 농약 사용정보에 대한 예비조사 (A Pilot Study for Pesticide Poisoning Symptoms and Information on Pesticide Use among Farmers)

  • This study aimed to determine the feasibility of survey questionnaires for pesticide poisoning. We conducted a pilot study to develop a questionnaire for evaluating pesticide poisoning symptoms and to examine the validity of self-reported information for individual pesticides used. In December 2010 we interviewed 20 farmers with self-reported pesticide poisoning histories residing in Gyeonggi Province. For validity of pesticide information, the purchased pesticide lists from the agricultural cooperative federation were compared with individual self-reported pesticides used. Neurological symptoms were the most common among clinical symptoms related to pesticide poisoning, followed by gastrointestinal, dermal and eye symptoms. Insecticides were the main causative pesticide class for poisoning. Twenty one major symptoms were selected for screening for acute pesticide poisoning in a field study based on the pilot results and literature reviews. Substantial under-reporting was found in data on self-reported individual pesticides used (9.2%), as well as low accuracy (36%) compared with their actual purchase lists. In this pilot study, we suggest the selected symptom lists may apply to a field survey of pesticide poisoning. However, the self-reported information on individual pesticides may not be valid and alternative methods need to be developed.

Genotypic Characterization of Salmonella enterica Serotype Enteritidis Isolated from Food-Poisoning Cases and Chickens by Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis

  • A total of 22 Salmonella enterica serotype Enteritidis (S. Enteritidis) isolates from human and chicken sources were analyzed by pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) using XbaI restriction enzyme to assess the genetic relationships between strains from different sources. PFGE permitted the resolution of XbaI restriction fragments of the 22 S. Enteritidis into 6 distinct PFGE types (PFT), designated PFT1 to PFT6, and 2 subtypes within PFT2, and allowed to detect between 9 and 10 bands with fragments sizes in the range of $25\~635\;kb$. Four of twelve isolates from human showed an identical PFGE patterns with 2 isolates from chickens. Also, another one isolate from human showed an identical PFGE patterns with other 5 isolates from chickens. Only one isolate from chicken, however, showed a different pattern compared to other PFTs. These results suggested that sporadic human food-poisoning cases infections caused by S. Enteritidis in this study were due to the consumption of contaminated chicken meats and that a clonally highly similar strains exist and spread between human and chicken sources.

Enterotoxin Production and DNA Fingerprinting of Staphylococcus aureus Isolated from Diverse Samples by Pulsed-Field Gel Electrophoresis

  • Staphylococcus aureus is an important animal and human pathogen implicated in a variety of disease including food-poisoning caused by staphyloccal enterotoxins (SEs). In order to investigate the difference in genomic types and to monitor the transmission of S. aureus isolates, a total of 25 S. aureus isolates from different sources were determined for their genotypic characteristics by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) in addition to their ability to enterotoxin production and antibiotic resistance patterns in this study. All the isolates were susceptible to amikacin, and the resistance pattern to ampicillin and penicillin were most common among 14 different patterns. Eleven of 24 isolates produced one of three SEs, SEA, SEC or SED. Sixteen representative PFGE patterns were obtained by Smal restriction fragments of S. aureus isolates. Analysis of dendrogram based on PFGE band patterns suggested that food-poisoning outbreaks be caused by the diverse sources of food, of which their raw materials were infected with S. aureus. Also, it could be concluded that PFGE was a powerful tool for epidemiological tracing of infection source for food-initiated outbreaks.

일본의 식중독 현황 통계 분석으로 살펴본 1인 식중독과 집단 식중독 비교 (A Comparative Study Between Food-Borne Outbreaks Two or More Persons and Individual Cases by Using Statistics of Japan)

  • 우리나라는 2인 이상의 집단 식중독에 대해서 식중독 발생건수와 환자수에 대해서 통계집계를 실시하고 있지만 산발적으로 발생하는 1인 식중독에 대해서는 집계 되고 있지 않다. 실제 발생하는 식중독을 식중독 통계에 근접하게 집계하는 방안의 하나로써 l인 식중독의 비중 및 패턴을 파악하고자 한국과 식이 패턴이 유사한 일본의 통계 (2002-2003)를 이용하여 1인 식중독과 2인 이상 집단식중독을 비교분석 하였다. 아울러 한국의 인구수 대비 식중독 발생 및 보고 비율을 일본과 비교하였다. 일본의 1인 식중독이 전체 식중독에서 차지하는 비율은 발생 건수에서 43.5%이며 발생장소는 장소불명 (90-92.3%)과 가정집 (6.2-8.5%)이 대부분이었다. 일본의 l인 식중독에서 C. jejuni (51.9%), Salmonella spp. (35.3%), V parahaemolyticus (9.5%)가 원인균의 대부분을 차지하였다. 한편 2인 이상 집단 식중독의 원인균은 norovirus (3l.3%), Salmonella spp. (20.8%), C. jejuni (15.5%)로 나타났다. 특히, 집단 식중독이 자주 발생한 장소는 음식점 (46.6-50.1%)과 여관(9.2-9.8%)이었고 1인 식중독보다 주로 집단 식중독에서만 발생한 식중독 원인균은 norovirus, S. aureus, Cl. perfringens, unknown였다. 한국과 일본의 식중독 발생 및 보고 비율은 2002-2009년 통계를 비교한 결과 2인 이상의 집단 식중독을 기준으로 1:1.5 수준이었다.

자초(Lithospermum erythrorhizon) 추출물의 항균특성 (Antimicrobial Effect of Lithospermi radix (Lithospermum erythrorhizon) Extract)

  • 천연보존료의 개발과 식중독 예방에 활용할 기초자료를 얻기 위하며 에탄올을 추출용매로 하여 자초로부터 항균성 물질의 최적 추출조건을 검토하고, 각종 식품부패미생물이나 식중독 원인세균에 대한 항균력을 시험한 결과는 다음과 같다. 항균성 물질은 95% 에탄올로 상온에서 24시간 추출하는 것이 제일 양호하였다. 항균력은 $pH\;5.0{\sim}8.0$의 범위에서 나타났으나 산성영역에서 다소 높게 나타났으며, 이온교환 chro-matography결과, 음이온 획분이 양이온 획분보다 항균력이 높았다. Gram양성균에 대한 균증식 억제력이 Gram음성균에서 보다 양호하였으며, 식중독 원인세균인 Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio parahaemolyticus 등에 대하여는 0.1%의 첨가로도 48시간까지 균의 증식이 억제되었다. 곰팡이나 효모류에 대하여는 0.1% 첨가하였을 경우에는 균종에 따라 48시간 이내에 균의 증식이 나타났으나, 0.15% 첨가하였을 경우에는 거의 모든 진균류에서 96시간 까지 균의 증식이 억제되었다.

향신료 정유의 휘발성 성분 및 식중독 세균에 의해 형성된 biofilm 억제 효과 (Volatile Components of Essential Oils from Spices and It's Inhibitory Effects against Biofilm Formed by Food Poisoning Bacteria)

  • 식중독 세균에 의한 biofilm 형성을 억제하는 효과를 시험하기 위하여 cinnamon, clove 및 lemongrass 정유의 휘발성 성분을 분석하였다. 또한 정유의 주요 항균활성 성분이 polyethylene과 stainless steel 표면에서 식중독 세균에 의한 biofilm 형성을 억제하는 효과에 대하여 조사하였다. Cinnamon 정유의 주요 휘발성 성분은 cinnamaldehyde (38.30%), linalool (9.61%), β-caryophyllene (8.90%) 및 1,3,4-eugenol (8.19%)로 동정되었다. Clove 정유의 주요 휘발성 성분은 1,3,4-eugenol (61.84%)로 분석되었다. Lemongrass의 주요 휘발성 성분은 citral의 이성질체인 geranial (19.11%)과 neral (19.23%)로 검출되었으며, citral은 isomeric acyclic monoterpene aldehydes로서 geranial (trans-citral, 19.11%)과 neral (cis-citral, 19.23%)의 혼합물로 분석되었다. Cinnamon, clove 및 lemongrass의 주요 성분 중 cinnamaldehyde, linalool, eugenol 및 citral이 disc diffusion assay에 의해 시험한 6종의 식중독 세균에 대하여 강한 항균활성을 나타냈다. Eugenol (0.1%)과 citral은 polyethylene 및 stainless steel coupon 표면에서 식중독 세균에 의해 형성된 biofilm에 대하여 강한 억제 작용을 나타났다. Cinnamaldehyde (0.1%)는 Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 19112와 Staphylococcus aureus KCCM 11812에 의해 형성된 biofilm에 대해 장한 억제 작용을 나타냈다. 연구 결과 cinnamaldehyde, eugenol 및 citral 처리에 의해 식중독 세균에 의한 biofilm 형성을 억제가 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

Investigation of Domoic acid in Shellfish Collected from Korean Fish Retail Outlets

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of domoic acid (DA) a potent neurotoxin, responsible for the syndrome amnesic shellfish poisoning (ASP) contamination of various species of bivalve shellfish purchased from fish market in Korea and the implications for food safety. Liquid chromatography (LC) methods were applied to quantify DA in shellfish after sample clean-up using solid-phase extraction (SPE) with strong anion exchange (SAX) cartridges. Toxin detection was achieved using photodiode array ultraviolet (LC-UV) and electrospray ionization-mass (LC-ESI-MS). DA was identified in 4 bivalve shellfishes of 872 shellfishes collected from March, 2006 to October, 2007 in Korea. DA amount of 3 surf clams (Mactra veneriformis) collected at Seoul, Daejeon, and Daegu were 4.13, 1.99, and 1.94 mg/kg, respectively. DA amount of 1 pink butterfly shell (Peronidia venulosa) collected at Seoul was 3.02 mg DA/kg. The amounts of DA that were present in 4 bivalve shellfishes were within EU guideline limits for sale of shellfish (20 mg DA/kg).

농촌(農村)에 있어서 농약사용(農藥使用)의 문제점(問題點) (Problems of Pesticide Usage in Rural Area)

  • It has been well known that indiscriminative use of pesticides contaminates water resources and soil to break down the balance of natural ecosystem and brings acute when spray. In this country, 62,602 tons of pesticides were used in 1974 for agricultural purpose figuring 28.0 kg per hectare which showed 20% increasement every year since 1970. It is almost impossible to figure out incidence and mortality of acute pesticide poisoning exactly. However, a survey in 1974 reported that 33.5% of male and 32.7% of female who sprayed certain pesticides complained of several symptoms seemed to be due to acute pesticide poisoning. It also mentioned that the main cause inducing poisoning supposedly was dusting without protective armamation such as masks, booths, gloves and others in more than 60% of above cases. Pesticide poisoning through contamination of food or direct inhalation and contact. With the reason, the followings can be recommended to minimize or prevent pesticide hazards. 1. Strict legal control 2. Systematic education on the safe handling way of pesticides for the people who are to use them. 3. Remarkable warning at transportation and stocking of pesticides. 4. Obligatory attachment of explanation on the package about effect, safe handling method, and. emergency care at acute pesticide poisoning concerned.
