Sesame protein concentrate(SPC) was prepared from defatted sesame flour(DSF) at several different pH(2.0, 7.0, 9.0, 11.0) for protein extraction. Some of their functional properties were determined in order to compare the effects of pH during preparation of concentrates. Compared with DSF, nitrogen solubility was markedly improved in all SPC, and SPC extracted at pH 11.0 showed the highest solubility at all pH leaves examined. Fatabsorption was increased in all SPC prepared, but water absorption was decreased as the extraction pH of protein increased. The emulsifying properteis and foaming properties of SPC were remarkably higher than DSF. As the extraction pH of protein was increased, the emulsion activity was also increased, but emulsion stability was decreased. SPC extracted at pH 7.0 showed the highest foaming capacity on the other hand, the highest foaming stability was shown in SPC extracted at pH 2.0. As the protein extraction pH increased, the viscosity of the protein solution was increased. SPC extracted at pH 11.0 showed highest viscosity at all protein concentrations tested.
Microcellular foaming process was developed at MIT in 1980's to save a quantity of raw materials and improve mechanical properties. There are many process variables in appling microcellular foaming process to the conventional injection molding process. Of all process variables, part dimension control and shrinkage are the most influential on the post molded dimension. The post molding dimensional change of thermoplastic resins is important to tool designers for predicting the specific difference of molded part vs. actual mold cavity. Generally, articles injection molded are smaller in size than the cavity; hence, the term shrinkage factor is used to define the allowance a designer specifies. It is important to consider the factors that influence molded part dimension. According to ASTM Designation: D 955, shrinkage from mold dimensions of molded plastics was measured. In injection molding, the difference between the dimensions of the mold and of the molded article produced therein from a given material may vary according to the design and operation of the mold. In this paper, shrinkage data of molded plastic parts was obtained. It can be an important information for designing optimum mold system in a microcellular foaming injection molding process.
A new concept of an inorganic foaming process at low temperature was demonstrated for the production of inorganic thermal insulating materials with the properties of flexible light-weight, the advantages of organic-based thermal insulation material. The foaming process was proceeded by establishing a skeleton of the foam body by using inorganic fibrous sepiolite and aluminum silicate. A cavity was formed by the expansion of fibrous skeleton body, by the gas which was generated from foaming agent at low temperature. Then the multi-vesicular expanded perlite with low thermal conductivity was filled into the cavity in a skeleton of the foam body. Finally through these overall process, a new inorganic foamed body could be obtained at low temperature without the hot melting of inorganic materials. In order to achieve this object, various preparations such as fibrous sepiolite fibrillation process, heat treatment process of the fibrous slurry were needed, and the optimal compositional condition of slurry was required. The foam body produced showed the properties of flexible light-weight thermal insulation materials such as bulk density, yield strength, flexural strength, and high heat resistance.
In this work, the properties of an organic-inorganic hybrid insulating material using an inorganic filler and polyurethane foam with different foaming conditions were investigated. At weight ratios of polyol and isocyanate of 1 to 1.2 good foaming properties were noted. In addition, an addition of 0.4 g of water, 0.1 g of surfactant, and 0.1 g of catalyst with respect to the composites of polyol at 5 g and isocyanate at 6 g showed the lowest apparent density and thermal conductivity. The pore size was smaller in the organic-inorganic hybrid foaming body with an increase in the $CaCO_3$ addition amount. Moreover, the apparent density and thermal conductivity were increased when the added amount of $CaCO_3$ increased. Increasing the amount of $CaCO_3$ powder is expected to improve the flame retardant capabilities; however, doing this tends to increase the apparent density and thermal conductivity.
Recycling method of waste LCD glass is the essential process for developing the total recycling process of LCD pannel. Pulverizing of LCD glass, determination of proper carbonacious foaming agent, the properties of residue from the recovery of valuable materials through an acid leaching process and the feasibility for the foaming of the residue obtained from leaching for indium and tin recovery were investigated for the developing of recycling method of waste LCD glass as industrial feed materials, such as heat insulation materials, sound absorbing materials, carrier of water treatment. Waste LCD glass could be pulverized finely for foaming process. Natural graphite was proper agent for foaming of the residue and the foaming technology of LCD glass would be effective recycling alternatives.

Objectives : Natural extracts have been extensively studied to replace single agent drugs that cause a variety of side effects. However, studies of changes to the formulation of natural extracts has not been nearly proceed. We aimed to investigate whether pharmacological stability of hyeonggaeyeongyotang gagambang (HYT) is altered by formulation changes for foaming tablet. Methods : In this study, we performed freeze - drying of HYT, which is known to have antioxidant and anti - inflammatory properties, and then changed the formulation by foaming. Results : As a result, the foaming reaction appeared normally when HYT foamed tablets were put into water, and almost all of the substances were dissolved in the aqueous solution. In addition, we confirmed using high-performance liquid chromatograph that the geniposide used as an indicator material of HYT was stable in most of the formulations. It was confirmed that the change of HYT formulation did not affect the antioxidant efficacy by the 2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid assay. Moreover, quantitative real-time PCR confirmed that the inhibitory effect of HYT on IL-$1{\beta}$ mRNA expression induced by lipopolysaccharides treatment in murine macrophage RAW 264.7 cells was similar in the solution of foaming tablet. Conclusions : These results suggest that the materials with various pharmacological effects can be stably maintained even when the formulation is changed by the foaming action of HYT. Our results are expected to provide important basic knowledge on formulation changes using various natural extracts.
Melt extrusion foaming process for the preparation of poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) scaffolds was carried out and the effects of foaming conditions on the pore structure of PLLA scaffolds and their mechanical properties were investigated. The porosity and mechanical properties of fabricated scaffolds were compared with the scaffolds obtained from the salt leaching method as well. It was found that the optimum pore structure was achieved when the PLLA melt was kept in extruder for the maximum decomposition time of blowing agent. In order to maintain the proper scaffolds structure, the blowing agent content should be less than $10\;wt\%$. It can be concluded that melt extrusion foaming process allows for the production of scaffold having higher mechanical properties with reasonable pore size and open cell structure for hard tissue regeneration even though it has less porosity than scaffolds made by salt leaching process.
The influence of expandable graphite (EG) on flame retardancy and foaming properties of the NBR/GTR foams was studied. The foaming properties were similar to those of NBR/GTR foams without EG when the EG contents were 10$\~$30 phr. The LOI values were increased with the EG content. For cone-calorimeter test, the data showed the trend similar to that from experiment. When the composition ratios of the compounds of NBR/GTR were 100$\~$0/80$\~$20 (w/w), and the EG contents were 10$\~$30 phr, we obtained high flame retardancy foams with low heat release rate (HRR), total heat release (THR), effective heat of combustion (EHC) and carbon monoxide yield (COY). The smoke density is similar to CO yield values obtained by the cone-calorimeter test. TGA analysis also showed the results approximately similar to those from the LOI and cone-calorimeter experiments.
To investigate the effects of protein concentration, heat treatment and pH on the foaming properties of sodium caseinate, surface tension, apparent viscosity, turbidity, foaming ability and foam stability at 1.0, 3.0, 5.0, 7.0 and 10.0% (W/V), at 55 and $65^{\circ}C$ and at pH 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 were examined. The conditions of protein concentrations for the foaming abilities were $3.0{\sim}7.0%$ (W/V). Foam stabilities of heated sodium caseinates were worse than those of unheated sodium caseinates (control) at pH6.0 and 7.0 (p<0.05), while the heated one were better than the unheated at pH 8.0, 10.0% concentrations (p<0.05). Also foam stabilities of sodium caseinate at pH 6.0 were higher than those at pH 7.0 and 8.0. Foaming ability and foam stability were inconsistently effected by changing protein concentration, heat treatment and pH.

Different amounts of foaming agents were employed in natural rubber(NR)/butadiene rubber(BR) blends to understand the foaming behavior in presence of nano-reinforcing agent, zinc methacrylate (ZMA). The ZMA greatly improved most of the mechanical properties of the rubber foams, however it did not show considerable effect on the cell morphology, such as cell size, density and porosity. It was also observed that the foaming agent concentration affected all the mechanical parameters. When the content of foaming agent was increased, the number of foams was increased leading to a decrease in density of the compounds. But the size and distribution of foams remained unchanged with increased foaming agent. The effect of high styrene-butadiene rubber (HSBR) was also studied. The size of cells became smaller and the cell uniformity was improved with increasing HSBR. The foam rubber compounds showed much efficient energy absorbing capability at higher strains.
