In this study, crosslinked polyethylene (PE) foam sheets were prepared through gamma-ray irradiation. PE foam sheets were prepared through a foaming process using sodium bicarbonate as a blowing and foaming agent. The prepared PE foam sheets were then crosslinked through gamma-ray irradiation. The crosslinking degree was increased to 86.0% with an increase in the absorption dose. The tensile strength of the crosslinked PE foam sheets was increased with an increase in the absorption dose. However, the elongation-at-break of the crosslinked PE foam sheets was decreased. The thermal decomposition temperature of the crosslinked PE foam sheets was increased to $421.2^{\circ}C$ with an increase in the absorption dose. The SEM analysis revealed that the morphology was not changed significantly after the crosslinking through gamma-ray irradiation.
Nb-doped $TiO_2$(NTO) coated NiCrAl alloy foam for hydrogen production is prepared using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposition(USPD) method. To optimize the size and distribution of NTO particles based on good physical and chemical stability, we synthesize particles by adjusting the weight ratio of the Nb precursor solution(5 wt%, 10 wt% and 15 wt%). The morphological, chemical bonding, and structural properties of the NTO coated NiCrAl alloy foam are investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy(XPS), and Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy(FESEM). As a result, the samples of controlled Nb weight ratio exhibit a common diffraction pattern at ${\sim}25.3^{\circ}$, corresponding to the(101) plane, and have chemical bonding(O-Nb=O) at 534 eV. The NTO particles with the optimum weight ratio of N (10 wt%) show a uniform distribution with a size of ~18.2-21.0 nm. In addition, they exhibit the highest corrosion resistance even in the electrochemical stability estimation. As a result, the introduction of NTO coated NiCrAl alloy foam by USPD improves the chemical stability of the NiCrAl alloy foam by protecting the direct electrochemical reaction between the foam and the electrolyte. Thus, the optimized NTO coating can be proposed for excellent protection of NiCrAl alloy foam for hydrocarbon-based steam methane reforming(SMR).
We developed a processing recipe to synthesize flexible polyurethane foam with a pore size of 335 ± 107 ㎛. The gelling reaction time was varied from 0 to 30 minutes and the physical properties of the foam were evaluated. The gelling reaction where the polypropylene glycol and tolylene 2,4-diisocyanate (TDI) were reacted to form urethane prepolymer, proceeded until a chemical blowing agent, deionized water, was introduced. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra showed that the composition of the foam did not change but the foam height reached a peak value when the gelling reaction time was 10 minutes. We found that increasing the gelling time lessened the coalescence and helped the formation of cells. Lastly, the repeatability of polyurethane foam was confirmed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) by synthesizing ten identical polyurethane foams under the same experimental conditions, including the gelling reaction time. Overall, the new time parameter in-between the gelling and blowing reactions will give extra stability in manufacturing identical polyurethane foams and can be applied to various polyurethane foam processes.

Purpose: This study investigates the impact of self-myofascial release using a foam roller on the quadriceps femoris for pelvic stability. We further compare the effects of a GRID surface Foam Roller (GFR), a Non-Vibration Foam Roller (NVFR), and a Vibration Foam Roller (VFR). Methods: Thirty healthy adults (15 males, 15 females) participated in this study and were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: GFR, NVFR, or VFR. Participants walked at self-selected speeds with an arm sling before and after foam roller stretching. The analyzed gait parameters included pelvic tilt, pelvic obliquity, and pelvic rotation. Results: In the NVFR and VFR groups, there was a Significant differences were obtained in the pelvic tilt between pre-test and post-test values (p<0.05) in the NVFR and VFR groups, but no significant difference was observed in the GFR group (p>0.05). Comparing the amount of change between the three groups exhibited a significant decrease in pelvic tilt in the NVFR and VFR groups compared to the GFR group (p<0.017). No significant differences were found in pelvic obliquity and pelvic rotation (p>0.05) in all groups. Conclusion: While walking, the use of a VFR for self-myofascial release results in pelvic alteration by reducing the anterior pelvic tilt. We propose that a foam roller can be utilized to enhance pelvic stability during gait.
Polyurethane foam insulation required for storing and transporting cryogenic liquefied gas is already widely used as a thermal insulation material for commercial LNG carriers and onshore due to its stable price and high insulation performance. These polyurethane foams are reported to have different mechanical performance depending on the density, and the density parameter is determined depending on the amount of the blowing agent. In this study, density-dependent polyurethane foam was fabricated by adjusting the amount of blowing agent. The mechanical properties of polyurethane foam were analyzed in the room temperature and cryogenic temperature range of -163℃ at 1.5 mm/min, which is a quasi-static load range, and the cells were observed through microstructure analysis. The characteristics of linear elasticity, plateau, and densification, which are quasi-static mechanical behaviors of polyurethane foam, were shown, and the correlation between density and mechanical properties in a cryogenic environment was confirmed. The correlation between mechanical behavior and cell size was also analyzed through SEM morphology analysis. Polyurethane foam with a density of 180 kg/m3 had a density about twice as high as that of a polyurethane foam with a density of 96 kg/m3, but yield strength was about 51% higher and cell size was about 9.5% smaller.
This paper investigates the complex permittivity of foam materials using the rectangular waveguide. The transmission coefficients of materials inserted in the waveguide are measured with a network analyzer and calculated from the equivalent transmission line model. We use the trial and error method in the acquisition of the complex permittivity.
