Fluoride (F) is an important element for the mineralization of body tissues. The purpose of this study was to administer fluoride prenatally to rats to evaluate its beneficial concentration for rat bone using microstructural analysis, to analyze its effect on the bone structure, and to evaluate the effect of its transfer through rat placenta. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (NMR) were performed. The $^{19}F$ NMR and $^{31}P$ NMR signals suggested the existence of fluoride ions in the apatite lattice because the signals were caused by the fluoride ions that were coupled to the phosphate atoms and were affected in the phosphate phases other than the element phases in the apatite. Consequently, if it was not affected too much, the desirable concentration of prenatal fluoride treatment could have a helpful effect on the bone crystal structure through placental fluoride transfer.
Objective: To investigate remineralizing effect of three fluoride regimens on artificially demineralized enamel around orthodontic bracket by analyzing mineral density (MD) acquired from micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Methods: Forty-eight bracket bonded bovine incisors were prepared to create demineralized enamel (DE) surface. The samples were divided into four groups according to the fluoride regimen: 1) no fluoridation, 2) 1.23% acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) gel, 3) fluoridated toothpaste, and 4) 0.05% sodium fluoride mouthwash. Micro-CT was scanned after demineralization (T0), and 2 weeks (T1) and 4 weeks (T2) of fluoridation. Results: APF gel showed highest remineralization of DE during T1-T0 interval among the groups (p < 0.05); followed by toothpaste, mouthwash and no fluoridation. APF gel and toothpaste demonstrated significant increase in MD after 4 weeks of application (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Remineralization effects of three fluoride regimens were depicted through micro-CT analysis, of which APF gel was most effective.
A new thiourea based receptor (1) was synthesized and applied to fluoride ion recognition in acetonitrile solution. Receptor 1 displayed dual changes in absorption and fluorescence emission intensities selectively for fluoride ions. The interaction of 1 with fluoride undergoes a deprotonation process that is confirmed by $^1H$ NMR titration.
Objectives : This study was carried out to examine the effect of varnish fluoride and APF gel on the acid resistance and the remineralization of the enamel. Methods : At first, the microhardness changes of enamel surface were measured after demineralizing the fluoride treated tooth surface. Next, the changes were measured after fluoride application to the demineralized enamel surface. Results : 1. Acid resistance was higher in varnish fluoride groups than APF gel groups and the difference was significant(p<0.001). 1) Varnish fluoride groups Microhardness of enamel surface showed $297.76{\pm}9.89$ after fluoride treatment and $260.90{\pm}28.67$ after drmineralization. The changes of Vickers hardness number(VHN) were $-36.86{\pm}27.30$. 2) APF gel groups Microhardness of enamel surface showed $298.79{\pm}17.28$ after fluoride treatment and $43.75{\pm}18.58$ after demineralization The changes of VHN were $-255.04{\pm}21.31$. 2. No significant changes were surveyed in both varnish fluoride groups and APF gel groups as for remineralization of enamel(p>0.05). 1) Varnish fluoride groups Microhardness of enamel surface showed $46.58{\pm}15.42$ after demineralization and $46.61{\pm}15.70$ after fluoride treatment. The changes of VHN were $0.02{\pm}3.75$. 2) APF gel groups Microhardness of enamel surface showed $47.13{\pm}19.31$ after demineralization and $42.59{\pm}16.12$ after fluoride treatment. The changes of VHN were $-4.54{\pm}5.06$. Conclusions : Varnish fluoride showed higher acid resistance than APF gel, however both of them were observed to have no effect on the remineralization of the enamel.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate remineralization effect according to application cycle of fluoride varnish in preschool children. Methods: The study subjects were fifty six children (92 teeth) having one or more early dental caries lesion. Fluoride varnish was applied to the primary area of maxillary and anterior mandibular teeth with the interval of one month, three months, and six months. Results: Dft index was 3.54 in male and 3.44 in female. The fluorescence loss(${\Delta}F$) value due to early caries lesions showed a significant difference in experiment groups I and II after the application of fluoride varnish, but there was no significant difference in experiment group III. After fluoride varnish application, there was a significant change in experimental group I and III. The maximum fluorescence loss(${\Delta}Fmax$) from early caries lesions showed a significant difference after application of the fluoride varnish in all three experiment groups of I, II, and III(p<0.001). Conclusions: Fluoride varnish should be recommended and applied to the children of high risk caries group in every three months.
