  • This study aims to verify culture-universal invariances and culture-particular differences in the relationship of job stress, flourishing, and job engagement. For this purpose, we selected a global korean company having a local corporation in China in order to minimize the influence of organizational factor and a self-report questionnaire survey was conducted by 141 personnels of head office and 107 personnels of chinese branch. At first, the mediating effect of flourishing on the relationship between job stress and job engagement was significant for both korean and chinese personnel. Second, regression analyses were conducted in order to demonstrate influence of detailed job stress on flourishing and job engagement. As for flourishing, decision making and responsibility factor was significant for korean personnel, and lack of social support factor and job characteristic factor were significant for chinese personnel. Regarding job engagement, lack of social support factor and job characteristic factor were significant for both two samples and decision making and responsibility factor was significant for korean personnel whereas non-significant for chinese personnel. The results could give a meaningful perspectives to companies interested in extending their business abroad. Finally, implications and limitations of the study and suggestions for future research were discussed.

  • The purpose of this research is to find out the effects of music therapy activities using preferred music on job stress, work engagement and flourishing of reporters in broadcasting company. The study targets 51 reporters in S city, with the experimental group consisting of 20 reporters from A broadcasting company and the control group composed of 31 reporters from A newspaper company. The experimental group voluntarily listened to preferred music at least three times a day for two weeks, while the control group did not perform any activities. For data analysis, the job stress scale, work engagement scale, and flourishing scale scores of each group were collected right before and after the experiment, and the results of the analysis were as follows. First, the experimental group's job stress decreased, and significant score differences were also shown in comparison with the control group. Second, work engagement also increased by a noticeable difference. Third, in the case of flourishing, the after experiment's average value rose slightly, but the difference was not statistically significant. In conclusion, this research offered implications for the need for a music therapy activity program to recover from reporters' job stress circumstances and discussed the need for further research.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the job characteristics of the PR practitioner on flourishing and to identify the mediating effect of the meaning of work and job engagement. This study used a survey of 353 PR practitioners from PR firms and the hypothesis was verified by gathering the data of the job characteristics, the meaning of work, the job engagement and the flourishing by conducting hierarchical regression analysis and SPSS Process Macro bootstrapping analysis. The results showed that the job characteristics of the PR practitioner were found to influence the flourishing with the double-mediation effect, the meaning of the work and job engagement. The more PR practitioners regard their work affects their surroundings, the higher the degree of autonomy is, and the more they get feedbacks they engaged more, as they valued their job more thereby experience flourish more. Moreover, when PR practitioners valued their job more, they more engaged in their work and experience flourish. The meaning of work revealed to be the important factor to affect flourish regardless of the job characteristics and the job engagement so that gained the results that PR firms' effort to elevate the meaning of work of PR practitioners has is important. The study findings suggest that PR practitioners' flourishing is manageable in the organization by paying attention to oneself in the aspect of the organization, not leaving in individual areas. Limitaions and implications for future studies were discussed.

  • This study aims to explore the characteristics of translated picture books in South Korea and their cultural meanings over a five-decade period. This time can broadly be divided into three periods, being the Settlement Period (pre-1990), the Flourishing Years (1991-2000) and Globalization (post-2001). During the Settlement Period, picture books in South Korea were derived mainly from Japan and America and tended to be informational in nature or based on folk tales. These were translated into Korean to meet the public's curiosity for foreign cultures or for scientific information. The Flourishing Years were characterised by the availability of picture books on a wide variety on themes and forms from all over the world. In this period, the translation of books into Korean focused on a literal rendition of the meanings and sounds of names from the original text. There was also a proliferation of audiotapes, videos and TV programs based on famous picture books. In the current period of Globalization, Korean publishers, who have built confidence through studying foreign picture books over time, have increased efforts to produce their own picture books and export them abroad.

  • This study aimed to verify the positive effect of work meaningfulness(WM) on flourishing(FL) with the successive positive effects of work engagement(WE) and job performance(JP) as dual mediators. We conducted an online survey of 395 incumbents working in the companies of different types and statistically analyzed data using SPSS and SPSS Process macro for hierarchical regression and bootstrapping. The results are as follows: 1. correlation coefficients of all combinations from four variables are significant, 2. simple mediation effects(WM-WE-FL and WE-JP-FL) are significant, 3. dual mediation effet(WM-WE-JP-FL) is verified. This study showed practical guide for the efficient management of employees in recent autonomous work environment and further studies with longitudinal method will be needed in order to verify substantially the dual mediation.

  • With flourishing of new facilities, we are now set to expand the horizon of the human knowledge of the universe deep into the very beginning of the cosmic history of astronomical objects. In such an endeavor, extreme objects and cosmic events such as violent cosmic explosions, rapidly growing supermassive black holes, and proto-clusters of galaxies, are the objects to be investigated in order to unveil what was happening in the very early universe. We will discuss what we have learned and are expecting to discover from such extreme objects about the infant universe both currently and in future, highlighting some of our recent works.

  • Influenced by the western science and experimental medicine of recent times, Kampo medicine had been founded characterized by experiment at the Edo age in japan. However, the government of japan pursued the scientificalness of medicine blindly, then Kampo medicine completely westernized and moved towards the decline. In our modernization of Chinese medicine, the historical lesson of japan should be learned.

  • Recently, there have been discussions among national observatories in East Asia about the possibility of EAO and the Subaru observatory forming a partnership. The official EAO-Subaru partnership can make the powerful wide-field observation capabilities of Subaru available to Korean astronomers through EAO, and also can serve as an excellent platform to gather astronomers in East Asia together for flourishing regional collaboration activities. A working group has been formed to outline the framework of the EAO-Subaru partnership, and the working group report has been prepared. In this talk, I will explain the proposed partnership framework in the working group report. Inputs are very welcome from KAS members about the proposed framework.

  • The Internet of Things(IoT) paradigm is flourishing strenuously for the last two decades. Researchers around the globe have their dreams to transmute every real-world object to the virtual object. Consequently, IoT devices are escalating exponentially. The abrupt evolution of these IoT devices has caused a major challenge i.e. object classification. In order to classify devices comprehensively and accurately, this paper proposes a context-aware based multi-classification model for devices, which classifies the smart devices according to people's contexts. However, the classification features of contextual data of different contexts are difficult to extract. The deep learning algorithm has the capability to solve this problem. This paper proposes a context-aware based multi-classification model of devices, which classifies the smart devices according to people's contexts.
