  • In this paper, we explore face recognition technology for embedded system. We develop an algorithm suitable for systems under ubiquitous environment. The basic requirements includes appropriate data format and ratio of feature data to achieve efficiency of algorithm. Our experiment presents a face recognition technique for handheld devices. The essential parts for face recognition based on embedded system includes; integer representation from floating point calculation and optimization for memory management.

  • This paper represents the control software development for Direct Drive Arm Robot with the WHILE language composed the 68000 assembly language and high level language modula-2. Direct Drive Ann Robot needs the control program which is fast step and exactly position moving because Direct Drive Arm Robt depends on accuracy. We found that the self-tuning algorithm for this robot control is very good for the real time control and the floating point operation using the 32 bit CPU(MC 68020) controller.

An Approximate Euclidean Distance Calculation for Fast VQ Encoding

  • In this paper, we present a fast encoding algorithm for vector quantization with an approximate Euclidean distance calculation. An approximation is performed by converting floating point to the near integer. An inequality between the approximate Euclidean distance and the nearest distance is developed to avoid unnecessary distance calculations. Since the proposed algorithm rejects those codewords that are impossible to be the nearest codeword, it produces the same output as conventional full search algorithm.

  • This paper presents a way of a novel FPGA implementation of DCT. It shows how to limit the required bits on each DCT processing step, instead of implementing high-cost 64-bit floating-point arithmetic of IEEE Std 754-1985 on FPGA. ID-DCT implementation has been done which operates at 30 frame per second with 1920${\times}$1080 resolution.

  • This paper presents a design of 3D Graphics Geometry processor. A geometry processor needs to cope with a large amount of computation and consists of transformation processor and lighting processor. To deal with the huge computation, a vector processing structure based on pipeline chaining is proposed. The proposed geometry processor performs 4.3M vertices/sec at 100MHz using 11 floating-point units.

  • It has developed a PCM signal acquisition(PCMA) system which can analyze status of signals in order to establish rapid diagnosing in TDX-families signaling service equipment. We develop the quick Fourier transform(QFT) for length 2$\^$M/ data to analyze the power spectral of the PCMA system. This algorithm can reduces the number of floating-point operations necessary to compute the DFT by a factor of two or four over direct methods or Goertzels method for prime lengths. In the experimental results, the system classifies the type of signals and finally discriminates the digit.

  • A fundamental trend of processor architecture evolving towards exaflops is fast increasing floating point performance (so-called "free" flops) accompanied by much slowly increasing memory and network bandwidth. In order to fully enjoy the "free" flops, a numerical algorithm of PDEs should request more flops per byte or increase arithmetic intensity. A meshfree/GFEM approximation can be the class of the algorithm. It is shown in a GFEM without extra dof that the kind of approximation takes advantages of the high performance of manycore GPUs by a high accuracy of approximation; the "expensive" method is found to be reversely hardware-efficient on the emerging architecture of manycore.

  • 본 논문에서는 DSP 및 FPU(Floating Point Unit) 기능을 갖는 ARM계열의 Cortex-M4 마이크로컨트롤러를 이용하여 저가형 벡터제어 시스템을 구현하였다. 이것은 최대 168MHz의 높은 클록으로 동작하면서도 소비전력이 낮고 가격이 저렴하다.

  • This paper consists of the position control of induction motor using Generalized Predictive Control. Full order flux observer is also used for the purpose of estimating rotor fluxes. By using Generalized Predictive Control algorithm, the improved position control is realized in this paper. The proposed control method has been implemented by a 32 bit floating point TMS320C31 DSP chip.

  • Passive Stabilization method and active stabilization method are mainly used to comprise a control system of platform stabilizer. Passive Stabilization method has demerits because of size and weight except that control structure is simple while active stabilization method using sensors can reduce size and weight, it requires high sensor technique and control algorithm. In this paper, a stabilizing controller using adaptive fuzzy control technique and floating-point processor(DSP) is suggested.
