  • A good understanding of the heat transfer distribution is very important to suppress the deformation of steel products. In this study, the local heat transfer coefficients are experimentally investigated to understand the heat transfer distribution of thick steel plates with even flat spray nozzle. The steel slabs are cooled down from the initial temperature of about $1000^{\circ}C$ , and the local heat transfer coefficients and surface temperatures are calculated from the measured temperature-time history. The results show that the local heat transfer coefficients of spray cooling are dominated by the local droplet flow rate, and in proportion to becoming more distant from the center of heat transfer surface, the local heat transfer coefficients decrease with the decrease of the local droplet flow rate.

  • The results and interpretations of push-out tests on shear connector devices for composite bridges carried out in this study are presented. The devices under investigations are headed studes, perfobond rib, ㄱtype perfobond rib, T- Connector and a new type of shear connector called T type perfobond rib. This new connector is flat steel plate with a number of holes punched through. The results obtained indicate that the T type perfobond rib shear connectors exhibit adequate ductility and substantially higher capacities. Therefore for composite beams utilizing reinforced concrete slabs, the T type perfobond rib shear connectors is a viable alternative to the headed studs.

  • Plastic shrinkage cracking is a major concern for concrete, especially for flat structures as highway pavement, bridge deck slabs, and bridge deck pavement. LMC(Latex Modified Concrete) be used mainly for bridge deck overlays, so occurrence possibility of plastic shrinkage cracking is very high. But LMC is form a close-packed layer of polymer particles in very early time from the time of adds the latex and water. So plastic shrinkage cracking compare with normal concrete is not occur at final setting time. Results indicates that LMC is advantage to prevent occurrence of plastic shrinkage crack and it's possible co construction for bridge deck overlay effectively.

  • Flat plate system has been adopted in many buildings constructed recently because of the advantage of reduced floor heights to meet the economical and architectural demands. Structural engineers commonly use the effective beam width model(EBWM) in practical engineering for the analysis of flat plate structures. However, in many cases, when it is difficult to use the EBWM, it is necessary to use a refined finite element model for an accurate analysis. But it would take significant amount of computational time and memory if the entire building structure was subdivided with finer meshes. An efficient analytical method is proposed in this study to obtain accurate results in significantly reduced computational time. The proposed method employs super elements developed using the matrix condensation technique and fictitious beams are used in the development of super elements to enforce the compatibility at the interfaces of super elements. The stiffness degradation of flat plate system considered in the EBWM was taken into account by reducing the elastic modulus of floor slabs in this study. Static and dynamic analyses of example structures were performed and the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method were verified by comparing the results with those of the refined finite element model and the EBWM.

  • Long-term floor deflection caused by excessive construction load became a critical issue for the design of concrete slabs, as a flat plate is becoming popular for tall buildings. To estimate the concrete cracking and deflection of an early age slab, the construction load should be accurately evaluated. The magnitude of construction load acting on a slab is affected by various design parameters. Most of existing methods for estimating construction load addressed only the effects of the construction period per story, material properties of early age concrete, and the number of shored floors. In the present study, in addition to these parameter, the effects of shore stiffness and concrete cracking on construction load were numerically studied. Based on the result, a simplified method for estimating construction load was developed. In the proposed method, the calculation of construction load is divided to two steps: 1)Onset of concrete placement at a top slab. 2)Removal of shoring. At each step, the construction load increment is distributed to the floor slabs according to the ratio of slab stiffness to shore stiffness. The proposed method was compared with existing methods. In a companion paper, the proposed method will be verified by the comparison with the measurements of actual construction loads.

  • An alternative design method for interior flat plate-column connections subjected to punching shear and unbalanced moment was developed. Since the slab-column connections are severely damaged by flexural cracking before punching shear failure, punching shear was assumed to be resisted mainly by the compression zone of the slab critical section. Considering the interaction with the flexural moment of the slab, the punching shear strength of the compression zone was evaluated based on the material failure criteria of concrete subjected to multiple stresses. The punching shear strength was also used to evaluate the unbalanced moment capacity of the slab-column connections. For verification, the proposed strength model was applied to existing test specimens subjected to direct punching shear or combined punching shear and unbalanced moment. The results showed that the proposed method predicted the strengths of the test specimens better than current design methods in ACI 318 and Eurocode 2.

  • In a companion paper, a simplified method for the evaluation of the slab construction load was developed. Unlike existing methods, the proposed method includes the effects of shore stiffness and concrete cracking on the construction load. In the present study, construction loads were measured in actual flat-plate slabs. For verification, the measured shore-forces were compared with the predictions by the proposed method and existing methods. Further, the proposed method was applied to a wall-slab structure, and the prediction results were compared with the measurements. The comparison results showed that the proposed method well predicted the construction loads, furthermore it gave better predictions than the existing methods did.

  • In structural design provision, maximum punching shear stress of slabs is prescribed as combined stress in direct shear occurred by gravity load and eccentric shear occurred by unbalanced moment. This means that the effect of unbalanced moment is considered to decide the punching shear stress. However, from the resistance capacity standpoint, the effect of unbalanced moment strength is not considered for deciding punching shear strength. In this paper, a model considering interrelation between unbalanced moment and punching shear was proposed. In the model, the relation between load effect and resistance capacity in unbalanced moment and punching shear was two-dimensionally expressed. Using the interrelation model, a method how unbalanced moment strength should be considered to decide the punching shear strength was proposed. Additionally, effective width enlargement factors for deciding the unbalanced moment strength of flat plates with shear reinforcements were proposed. The interrelation model proposed in this paper is very effective for the prediction of the behavior of slab-column connection because not only punching shear and unbalanced moment strengths but also failure modes of flat plates can be accurately predicted.

  • The current design codes present an equivalent frame method (EFM) for the analysis and design of two-way slab structures. However, since the EFM was developed to be suitable for two-way slab structures subjected to gravity loads only, it brings many problems in its application to the analysis of two-way slabs to which gravity and lateral loads are applied simultaneously. Therefore, authors proposed the unified equivalent frame method (UEFM) that can analyze the structural behavior of flat-plate slab systems subjected to gravity and lateral loads in their previous studies. In this study, the UEFM was modified to be applicable to the two-way slab system with beams. In addition, the accuracy of the proposed UEFM was then examined by comparing it to the lateral behaviors of the two-way slab specimens.

  • In this paper, we present an indoor propagation prediction model which is based on a three-dimensional ray-tracing technique. In this model, instead of considering all obstacles such as furnitures and fixtures, etc., only main obstacles to the propagation such as walls, ceiling and floors are modeled as slabs with finite thickness and conductivity, and the significant phenomena of propagation are considered, so we can calculate simply and predict accurately the propagation losses. The propagating rays are considered to be reflected and transmitted specularly at the boundaries of obstacles, and diffracted at edges. The reflection and transmission losses on flat obstacles are calculated by using ray tracing method, and the diffraction losses at edges are calculated by using the uniform theory of diffraction (UTD) for finite conductivity media. The results simulated for some cases by this propagation model good agree with the measured value of pathloss.
