  • Flash lamp annealing (FLA) of metal nanoparticle (NP) ink has provided powerful strategies to fabricate high-performance electrodes on a flexible substrate because of its rapid processing capability (in milliseconds), low-temperature process, and compatibility with to roll-to-roll process. However, metal NPs [e.g., gold (Au), silver (Ag), copper (Cu), etc.] have limitations such as difficulty in synthesizing fine metal NPs (diameter less than 10 nm), high price, and degradation during ink storage and FLA processing. In this regard, organometallic ink has been proposed as a material that can replace metal NPs due to their low-cost (usually 1/100 times cheaper than metal nano inks), low-temperature processability, and high material stability. Despite these advantages, the fabrication of flexible electrodes through FLA treatment of organometallic compounds has not been extensively researched. In this paper, we experimentally guide how to determine the optimal conditions for forming electrodes on flexible substrates by considering material parameters, and flashlight processing parameters (energy density, pulse duration, etc) to minimize the difficulties that may arise during the FLA of organometallic ink.

  • Free-living amoebae (FLA) are found in diverse environments, such as soils, rivers, and seas. Hence, they can be used as bioindicators to assess the water quality based solely on their presence. In this study, we determined the presence of FLA in river water by filtering water samples collected from various sites and culturing the resulting filtrates. FLA were detected in all the water samples with varying quality grades (Grades I-V). The significant increase in the size of the amoebae population with the deterioration in the water quality. Monoxenic cultures of the amoebae were performed, and genomic DNAs were isolated, among which 18S rDNAs were sequenced to identify the amoeba species. Of the 12 species identified, 10 belonged to the Acanthamoeba genus; of the remaining 2 species, one was identified as Vannella croatica and the other as a species of Vermamoeba. Acanthamoeba was detected in samples with Grades I to VI quality, whereas the Vermamoeba species was present only in Grade I water. V. croatica was found exclusively in water with Grade II quality. Following morphological observations, genomic DNA was sequenced using 16S rDNA to determine whether the species of Acanthamoeba harbored endosymbionts. Most of the isolated Acanthamoeba contained endosymbionts, among which 4 species of endogenous bacteria were identified and examined using transmission electron microscopy. This study provides evidence that the distribution of amoebae other than Acanthamoeba may be associated with water quality. However, further confirmation will be required based on accurate water quality ratings and assessments using a more diverse range of FLA.

  • It is of importance to know that the bonding strength and interfacial stress of SOI wafer pairs to meet with mechanical and thermal stresses during process. We fabricated Si/2000$\AA$-SiO$_2$ ∥ 2000$\AA$-SiO$_2$/Si SOI wafer pairs with electric furnace annealing, rapid thermal annealing (RTA), and fast linear annealing (FLA), respectively, by varying the annealing temperatures at a given annealing process. Bonding strength and interfacial stress were measured by a razor blade crack opening method and a laser curvature characterization method, respectively. All the annealing process induced the tensile thermal stresses. Electrical furnace annealing achieved the maximum bonding strength at $1000^{\circ}C$-2 hr anneal, while it produced constant thermal tensile stress by $1000^{\circ}C$. RTA showed very small bonding strength due to premating failure during annealing. FLA showed enough bonding strength at $500^{\circ}C$, however large thermal tensile stress were induced. We confirmed that premated wafer pairs should have appropriate compressive interfacial stress to compensate the thermal tensile stress during a given annealing process.

  • In this paper, we present a primitive system design of a super multi-view(SMV) 3-D display system based on a focused light array(FLA) concept using reflective vibrating scanner array(ViSA). The parallel beam scanning using a vibrating scanner array is performed by moving left and right an array of curvature-compensated mirrors or diamond-ruled reflective grating attached to a vibrating membrane. The parallel laser beam scanner array can replace the polygon mirror scanner which has been used in the SMV 3-D display system based on the focused light array(FLA) concept proposed by Kajiki at TAO(Telecommunications) Advancement Organization). The proposed system has great advantages in the sense that it requires neither huge imaging optics nor mechanical scanning pals. Some mathematical analyses and fundamental limitations of the proposed system are presented. The proposed vibrating scanner array, after some modifications and refinements, may replace polygon mirror-based scanners in the near future.

  • Compositional characteristics and origin of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs), which should be strongly regulated for environmental protection in the crude oils and petroleum products, have been investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC/MS). In the crude oils analyzed, two-rings compound(naphthalene) of PAHs was detected around $72.3\sim93.5%$, but five- or six-rings compound of PAHs was not detected. In the crude oils analyzed, the molecular ratio indices of Phe/Ant(phenanthrene/anthracene)>15, Fla/Pyr(fluoranthene/pyrene)<1, BaA/Chr(benzo (a)anthracene/chrysene)$\leq0.4$ could be effectively applied, and we found that the origin of PAHs was petrogenic sources. Total PAHs concentrations in the crude oils were increased with increasing API gravity and with decreasing sulfur contents of the analyzed crude oils. Five- or six-rings compound of PAHs were not included in ail petroleum products except bunker-C. Furthermore, the molecular ratio indices of Phe/Ant(phenanthrene/anthracene) vs. Fla/Pyr(fluoranthene/pyrene) could be effectively applied as the standard for the PAHs contamination criterion at the other Korean areas.

  • Akabane and bovine ephemeral fever (BEF) viruses cause vector-borne diseases. In this study, inactivated Akabane virus (AKAV)+Bovine ephemeral fever virus (BEFV) vaccines with or without recombinant vibrio flagellin (revibFlaB) protein were expressed in a baculovirus expression system to measure their safety and immunogenicity. Blood was collected from mice, guinea pigs, sows, and cattle that had been inoculated with the vaccine twice. Inactivated AKAV+BEFV vaccine induced high virus neutralizing antibody (VNA) titer against AKAV and BEFV in mice and guinea pigs. VNA titers against AKAV were higher in mice and guinea pigs immunized with the inactivated AKAV+BEFV vaccine than in animals inoculated with vaccine containing revibFlaB protein. Inactivated AKAV+BEFV vaccine elicited slightly higher VNA titers against AKAV and BEFV than the live AKAV and live BEFV vaccines in mice and guinea pigs. In addition, the inactivated AKAV+BEFV vaccine was safe, and induced high VNA titers, ranging from 1 : 64 to 1 : 512, against both AKAV and BEFV in sows and cattle. Moreover, there were no side effects observed in any treated animals. These results indicate that the inactivated AKAV+BEFV vaccine could be used in cattle with high immunogenicity and good safety.

  • Direct bonded SOI wafer pairs with $Si ll SiO_2/Si_3N_4 ll Si$ the heterogeneous insulating layers of SiO$_2$-Si$_3$N$_4$are able to apply to the micropumps and MEMS applications. Direct bonding should be executed at low temperature to avoid the warpage of the wafer pairs and inter-diffusion of materials at the interface. 10 cm diameter 2000 ${\AA}-SiO_2/Si(100}$ and 560 $\AA$- ${\AA}-Si_3N_4/Si(100}$ wafers were prepared, and wet cleaned to activate the surface as hydrophilic and hydrophobic states, respectively. Cleaned wafers were pre- mated with facing the mirror planes by a specially designed aligner in class-100 clean room immediately. We employed a heat treatment equipment so called fast linear annealing(FLA) with a halogen lamp to enhance the bonding of pre mated wafers We kept the scan velocity of 0.08 mm/sec, which implied bonding process time of 125 sec/wafer pairs, by varying the heat input at the range of 320~550 W. We measured the bonding area by using the infrared camera and the bonding strength by the razor blade clack opening method, respective1y. It was confirmed that the bonding area was between 80% and to 95% as FLA heat input increased. The bonding strength became the equal of $1000^{\circ}C$ heat treated $Si ll SiO_2/Si_3N_4 ll Si$ pair by an electric furnace. Bonding strength increased to 2500 mJ/$\textrm{m}^2$as heat input increased, which is identical value of annealing at $1000^{\circ}C$-2 hr with an electric furnace. Our results implies that we obtained the enough bonding strength using the FLA, in less process time of 125 seconds and at lowed annealing temperature of $400^{\circ}C$, comparing with the conventional electric furnace annealing.

  • The transformation of Bacillus subtilis K-54 and J-10 was carried out with constructed vectors containing structure and enhancer genes of aprN and prtR, to increase their fibrinolytic enzyme activity. Bands for the aprN and prtR genes were identified from B. subtilis J-10 by PCR that was carried out with the constructed primers for the genes. In addition, the gene fragments contained promoter site based on the results of analysing their nucleotide sequence. The two gene fragments, aprN and prtR, obtained by the PCR, were, then, inserted to vector such as T-vector and E.coli/Bacillus shuttle vector. The constructed vector were designated as pAPR2 (aprN), pENC2 (prtR) and pFLA1 (aprN and prtR), respectively. The constructed vector was used for transformation of the strains of B.subtilis J-10 and B. subtilis K-54 and the fribrinolytic activity of the transformed strains was investigated. The introduction of the vector, pAPR2 and the fibrinolytic activity of the transformed strains was investigated. The introduction of the vector, pAPR2 and pFLA1, resulted in the increase of fibrinolyitic enzyme activity in B. subtilis J-10 by 27.3% and 16%, respectively. However, the introduction of pENC2 to B. subtilis J-10 did not seem to induce increase of the enzyme activity. The strain of B.subtilis K-54 transformed with pENC2 showed an increased fibrinolytic activity by 5 folds compared with that of the original strain of B. subtilis K-54.
