  • This paper presents the development of a case-based system for an electrical fire cause diagnosis system using the entity relation database. The relation database which provides a very simple but powerful way of representing data is widely used. The system focused on database construction and cause diagnosis can diagnose the causes of electrical fires easily and efficiently. In order to store and access to the information concerned with electrical fires, the key index items which identify electrical fires uniquely are derived out. The case-based system consists of a case which contains information from the past fires. The case-based system could present the cause of a newly occurred fire to be diagnosed by searching the case-based database for reasonable matching. The case-based system has not only searching functions with multiple attributes by using the collected various information(such as fire evidence, structure, and weather of a fire scene) but also more improved diagnosis functions which can be easily used for the electrical fire cause diagnosis system.

  • The causes of the fire casualties were the heat burns, contacted by flame, before the period of industrialization. According to the economic has been developed drastically since 1990, residing space has been become bigger and sophistication and interior finishing materials have been diversified. Therefore, the suffocation casualties, caused by inspiration of toxic combustion gases, have been more increased than the flame casualties in recently. Also, the arson casualties have been increasing with the increasing of insurance crime to take the Insurance money. According to National Emergency Management Agency announcement, 31,778 fires was occurred nationwide in 2006 and the total casualties were 2,180 occurred. 446 persons were died among them. Because the exact investigation of fire, occurred the death, is very especially important that civil and criminal cases will be happened. Therefore, we studied about the cause of fire, the place of origin, and the group of casualties age on the axies of fires, which were occurred recently. And the identification method of fire casualties, the human behavior characteristic, the flame casualties and the suffocation casualties at fire scene.

  • 'Heaundae Woosin Building' fire was the case that a fire breaking out on the $4^{th}$ floor spread out the $38^{th}$ floor which is a top story and the penthouse was destroyed by fire. After this fire, the fire safety for high rise buildings has been on the rise and several new laws and regulations related in the buildings were created. The study is to analyze Heaundae officetel building case using FDS which is one of the CFD programs for fire. The methodology of this study is to analyze the case comparing with fire spread and route from a virtual fire simulation and related articles and a video clip of actual scene fire. This study shows that a fire spreading on top of levels spent approximately 30 minutes and, which is similar to the actual fire case. Also the pattern of spread has similarity with the case. However, even if the actual fire case shows the fire pattern was "V shape", the smoke-view presents the fire dose not spread horizontally as much as the real fire case. The result shows uncertainty of the modeling based on many grids and a limitation of putting interior finish input sources and the direction of the wind might cause the difference. Also, to analyze factors influencing on a vertical fire, another fire modeling is performed by in condition of modeling environment considering concrete interior finish between buildings and no wind. The result presents the fire spread in smoke-view does not spread vertically as much as the actual case.

  • This study analyzed the flame characteristics when igniting 200 ml of flammable liquids containing equal parts gasoline and another flammable liquid. These mixtures were used to fill a divided space in a simulation. The length of one side of the divided space was 2,000 mm, and the length of the combustion device was 1,000 mm. The mixture with alcohol had the highest flame propagation speed (0.7 s), while the mixture with light oil showed the lowest (1.2 s). The gasoline and acetone mixture reached peak flame in 25.5 s, at the highest speed, while the mixture with light oil reached peak flame in 163.7 s at the lowest speed. The gasoline and light oil showed the longest continuous combustion time (332.7 s), while the gasoline and paint thinner showed the shortest (121.5 s). A fire inspector who is examining the scene of a fire needs to analyze both the statements of the first eyewitness and the flame characteristics collectively.

  • FSR has been placed and operated in the Daegu Fire & Safety Department on a trial basis since September 2009. This research proposes a direction for developing the robot, which will provide greater field adaptability and efficiency through analyzing in-depth interviews and surveys of firefighters who have operated the robot. Analysis has shown that an Assistant FSR is expected to enhance maneuverability and improve the performance of wheels, which will increase the capacity for navigating obstacles. The Field FSR needs improvements in convenience of control, making the weight lighter, and stabilization of radio communications to eliminate tangled wires. Overall satisfaction regarding the performance of robots currently in operation is low, while preference toward using the Assistant robot in the field is also low, shown at 8.4%. Therefore, it is urgently necessary to vitalize usage of FSR in the field so that early commercialization of the FSR will contribute to reinforce both growth and competitiveness of the domestic robotics industry.

  • We found metallic migration phenomena at the fire scene in Printed circuit board (PCB) of LED light equipment which are commonly used. Accordingly we did this study. In order to generate rapidly metallic migration, we experiment the water drop test under low voltage (3.0 V) and a small amount of water condition. As a results of our experiment, we saw the growth of metallic migration of Copper and checked directly short of the PCB between isolated two poles by Cu migration. Finally we saw the shape of dendrite pattern by Cu migration using Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and analyzed that components via Energy dispersive Spectrometer (EDS).

  • Purpose: Advanced airway maintenance improves the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients. In this study, we evaluate the factors associated with advanced airway management while performing CPR for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients by 119 emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Methods: The observational analysis method was used ro retrospectively collect data from 119 rescue run sheets. This study was conducted in a fire station in Seoul, Korea. The subjects of this study were defined as OHCA patients who received CPR from July 2016 to June 2018. We divided the subjects into two groups according to whether advanced airway maintenance was performed or not, and then compared and analyzed both groups. We performed logistic regression analyses for characteristics that differed significantly between groups. Results: Out of 188 OHCA patients, 146 (77.7%) had received advanced airway management. Statistically significant differences in the logistic analysis were found regarding the total number of EMT professionals (adjusted odds ration [aOR]: 1.955; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.227-3.115; p=0.005) and scene-time (aOR:1.119;95%CI:1.019-1.228;p=0.019). Conclusion: Advanced airway maintenance while performing CPR for OHCA patients by EMT associated primarily with ensuring an adequate numbers of EMT professionals and sufficient scene time.

  • Fire fighters should eat their meal very fast in order to arrive in the emergency scene on time. The purpose of the study is to investigate the influence of eating speed on the health of the fire fighters. The subjects were fire fighters, National maritime police, soldiers, public officials, university students, and company employees. The fire fighters had the shortest eating time of 8 minutes 29 seconds, and eating speed of National maritime police was 8 minutes 33.17 seconds, and public officials had 12 minutes 49.33 seconds. Soldiers had 10 minutes 15 seconds, university students had 14 minutes 15 seconds, and company employees had 16 minutes 51 seconds in eating their meals. The previous studies said that eating speed had influenced on the metabolic syndrome and the survey on the American fire fighters showed that the fire fighters gained 7.7 pounds during the past 8 years. Through this study, it is necessary to implement the right eating habit that is able to slow down the eating speed in the Korean fire fighters. The Fire Academy should provide the right eating habit education program to the fire fighters.
