  • Recently, an infinite class of finitely based finite involution semigroups with non-finitely based semigroup reducts have been found. In contrast, only one example of the opposite type-non-finitely based finite involution semigroups with finitely based semigroup reducts-has so far been published. In the present article, a sufficient condition is established under which an involution semigroup is non-finitely based. This result is then applied to exhibit several examples of the desired opposite type.

  • In R. McKenzie[12], it is shown that the cardinality of the lattice variety is $2^\aleph_0$ and K. Baker[1] contains the stronger result that M, the variety of all modular lattices, has $2^\aleph_0$ subvarieties. It follows that there exists a variety of modular lattices that is not finitely based. In fact, K. Baker[2] gave an example of such a variety. And it was proved by K. Baker [2] and B. Jonsson [8] that join of two finitely based lattice varieties is not always finitely based. K. Baker[2] gave an explicit example of case of nonmodular lattice variety. Then it is proposed whether the join of two finitely based varieties if finitely based under certain conditions. The answer to the question is not affirmative.

  • This paper is a contribution to the study of the properties of the lattice of all lattice varieties. Among the properties, that of finite base is investigated here. The question whether the join of two finitely based modular lattice varieties is finitely based is investigated under certain conditions.

  • A pointed-group is an ordered pair (G,c) where G is a group and c is a specific element of G. Thus a pointed-group is a group together with a distinguish element. The aim of this paper is to generalize the result proved by R.C. Lyndon in [4], that every nilpotent group variety is finitely based for its laws.

  • A new class of univalent holomorphic functions with fixed finitely many coefficients based on Generalized fractional derivative are introduced. Also some important properties of this class such as coefficient bounds, convex combination, extreme points, Radii of starlikeness and convexity are investigated.

  • To contribute towards more accurate estimation of the virtual inertia coefficient for the horizontal vibration of ships, three dimensional correction factor $J_H$ for the added mass of finitely long elliptic prismatic bars in horizontal vibration in a free surface of an ideal fluid are calculated. In the problem formulation Dr. T. Kumai's quasi-finite length concept[1,11,12] is employed. Now that, in Dr. Kumai's work[1] for the horizontal vibration the mathematical model was a circular cylinder, the principal aim of the authors' work is to investigate the influence of the beam-draft ratio B/T on $J_H$. The numerical results of this work are shown in Fig.3 graphically, from which we may recognize that the influence of B/T on $J_H$ is remarkable as much as that of the length-draft ratio L/T(refer to Fig.1 also). In Fig.3 the curves for B/T=2.00 are of those based on Dr. Kumai's result[1]. On the other hand, the experimental data obtained by Burril et al.[9] for the horizontal vibration of finitely long prismatic bars of various cross-section shapes are compared with the theoretical added mass coefficients defined by combination of the authors' $J_H$ from Fig.3 and two dimensional coefficients $C_H$ obtained by Lewis form approximation for the corresponding sections. They are in reasonable correspondence with each other as shown in Fig.2. Finally, considering that the longitudinal profile of full-form ship's hull is well resembled to that of an elliptic cylinder and that the influences of other factors such as the sectional area coefficient and the shape of section contour itself can be well merged in the two dimensional added mass coefficient, the authors recommend that the data given in Fig.3 may be successfully adopted for the three dimensional correction factor the added mass in the horizontal vibration of hull-form ships.

  • A new technique for numerical calculation of viscoelastic flow based on the combination of Neural Net-works (NN) and Brownian Dynamics simulation or Stochastic Simulation Technique (SST) is presented in this paper. This method uses a "universal approximator" based on neural network methodology in combination with the kinetic theory of polymeric liquid in which the stress is computed from the molecular configuration rather than from closed form constitutive equations. Thus the new method obviates not only the need for a rheological constitutive equation to describe the fluid (as in the original Calculation Of Non-Newtonian Flows: Finite Elements St Stochastic Simulation Techniques (CONNFFESSIT) idea) but also any kind of finite element-type discretisation of the domain and its boundary for numerical solution of the governing PDE's. As an illustration of the method, the time development of the planar Couette flow is studied for two molecular kinetic models with finite extensibility, namely the Finitely Extensible Nonlinear Elastic (FENE) and FENE-Peterlin (FENE-P) models.P) models.

  • The paper considers the identifiability (i.e., the unique identification) of a composite string in the class of piecewise constant parameters. The 1-D string vibration is measured at finitely many observation points. The observations are processed to obtain the first eigenvalue and a constant multiple of the first eigenfunction at the observation points. It is shown that the identification by the Marching Algorithm is continuous with respect to the mean convergence in the admissible set. The result is based on the continuous dependence of eigenvalues, eigenfunctions, and the solutions on the parameters. A numerical algorithm for the identification in the presence of noise is proposed and implemented.
