A new linkage framework between elastic shell element with finite rotation and computar-aided geometric design (CAGD) (or surface is developed in the present study. The framework of shell finite element is based on the generalized curved two-parametric coordinate system. To represent free-form surface, cubic B-spline tensor-product functions are used. Thus the present finite element can be directly linked into the geometric modeling produced by surface generation tool in CAD software. The efficiency and accuracy of the Previously developed linear elements hold for the nonlinear element with finite rotations. To handle the finite rotation behavior of shells, exponential mapping in the SO(3) group is employed to allow the large incremental step size. The integrated frameworks of shell geometric design and nonlinear computational analysis can serve as an efficient tool in shape and topological design of surfaces with large deformations.

This paper examines finite rotation angle (FRA) applications for spacecraft attitude control. The coordinate transformation matrix and the attitude kinematics represented by FRAs are introduced. The interpolation techniques for the angular orientations are thoroughly investigated using the FRAs and the results are compared to those using traditional methods. The paper proposes trajectory description techniques by using extremely smooth polynomial functions of time, which can describe point-to-point attitude maneuvers in a realizable and accurate manner with the help of unique FRA features. In addition, new controller design techniques using the FRAs are developed by combining the proposed interpolation techniques with a model predictive control framework. The proposed techniques are validated through their attitude control applications for an aggressive point-to-point maneuver. Conclusively, the FRAs provide much more flexibility than quaternions and Euler angles when describing kinematics, generating trajectories, and designing attitude controllers for spacecraft.
In this paper, we study rotation surfaces in a Euclidean space with pointwise 1-type Gauss map and obtain by the use of the concept of pointwise finite type Gauss map, a characterization theorem for rotation surfaces of constant mean curvature.
In this paper, we study rotation surfaces in the Minkowski 3-dimensional space with pointwise 1-type Gauss map and obtain by the use of the concept of pointwise finite type Gauss map, a characterization theorem concerning rotation surfaces and constancy of the mean curvature of certain open subsets on these surfaces.

A crawler crane, which consists of a lattice boom, a driving system, and a movable vehicle, is widely used on construction sites. The crawler crane often traverses rough terrain at these sites; as a result, an overload limiter needs to be installed on the crane to prevent it from overturning and breaking. In this paper, we studied the distributed load change in relation to boom length and the angle of rotation of the roller that comes in direct contact with the grounded track shoe. First, we developed a 3D model of a crawler crane and meshed it for finite elements. Then, we performed finite element analysis to derive the load on the roller. Finally, we graphed and examined the roller distributed load data of the case according to boom length and rotation angle. By detecting the load on the roller of the crawler crane, we can predict the potential for the crane to overturn before it happens.
Concrete placement and temporary formwork of bridge deck overhangs result in unbalanced eccentric loads that cause exterior girders to rotate during construction. These construction loads affect the global and local stability of the girders and produce permanent girder rotation after construction. In addition to construction loads, the skew angle of the bridge also contributes to girder rotation. To prevent rotation (in both skewed and non-skewed bridges), a number of techniques have been suggested to temporarily brace the girders using transverse tie bars connecting the top flanges and embedded in the deck, temporary horizontal and diagonal steel pipes placed between the webs of the exterior and first interior girders, and permanent cross frames. This study includes a rigorous three-dimensional finite element analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of several bracing systems for non-skewed and several skewed bridges. In this paper, skew angles of $0^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, and $45^{\circ}$ were considered for single- and three-span bridges. The results showed that permanent cross frames worked well for all bridges, whereas temporary measures have limited application depending on the skew angle of the bridge.
Rotation design is a sampling technique to reduce response burden and to estimate the population characteristics varying in time. Park and Kim(1999) discussed a generation of one-level rotation design which is called as {{{{r_1^m ~-r_2^m-1}}}} design has more applicable form than existing before. In the structure of {{{{r_1^m ~-r_2^m-1}}}} design, we derive the exact variances of generalized composite estimators for level, change and aggregate level characteristics of interest, and optimal coefficients minimizing their variances. Finally numerical examples are shown by the efficiency of alternative designs relative to widely used 4-8-4 rotation design. This is continuous work of Part Ⅰ studied by Park and Kim(1999).

Researchers have elaborated several accurate methods to calculate member-end rotations or moments, directly, for bridge-type structures. Recently, the concept of rotation and moment propagation (RMP) has been presented considering bending flexibility, only. Through which, in spite of moment distribution method, all joints are free resulting in rotation and moment emit throughout the structure similar to wave motion. This paper proposes a new set of closed-form equations to calculate member-end rotation or moment, directly, comprising both shear and bending flexibility. Furthermore, the authors program the algorithm of Timoshenko beam theory cooperated with the finite element. Several numerical examples, conducted on the procedures, show that the method is superior in not only the dominant algorithm but also the preciseness of results.
The aim of this experimental research is to investigate the conformity of the four-bolt unstiffened moment end-plate connections consisting of European steel sections which do not meet the limitations specified for beam flange width and overall beam depth in ANSI/AISC 358-10 to the requirements of seismic application. However, the connections are satisfactory with the limitations required by Turkish Earthquake Code. For this purpose, four test specimens were designed and cyclic load was applied to three specimens while one was tested under monotonic loading to provide data for the calibration of the analytical models. The moment-rotation hysteresis loops and the failure modes for all test specimens are presented. A full three-dimensional finite element model is also developed for each test specimen for use to predict their behavior and to provide a tool for generating subsequent extensive parametric studies. The test results show that all specimens performed well in terms of rotation capacity and strength. Finite element models are found to be capable of approximating the cyclic behavior of the extended end-plate connection specimens.
