  • In urban areas, GPS(Global Positioning System)/GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) signals are blocked or distorted by structures such as buildings, which limits positioning. To compensate for this problem, in this paper, fingerprinting-based positioning using RSRP(: Reference Signal Received Power) information of LTE signals is performed. The W-KNN(Weighted - K Nearest Neighbors) technique, which is widely used in the positioning step of fingerprinting, yields different positioning performance results depending on the similarity distance calculation method and weighting method used in correlation. In this paper, the performance of the fingerprinting positioning according to the techniques used in correlation is comparatively analyzed experimentally.

  • In this paper, we propose a new watermarking method based on spread spectrum and a semi-fingerprinting system architecture that can be built using our robust watermarking method. Especially, we describe a method that extends the application area of watermarking technology to more practical application domains by applying the watermarking technology that has been focused mainly on copyright protection to fingerprinting area. Our proposed watermarking scheme uses the method that inserts more data by using random number shifting method. We improved the reliability of acquired data with 20-bits CRC code and 60-bits inserted information. In addition, we designed the system architecture based on the recommendation of cIDf (content ID forum) in order to apply the system on the semi-fingerprinting area.

  • For the indoor positioning, wireless fingerprinting is most favorable because fingerprinting is most accurate among the technique for wireless network based indoor positioning which does not require any special equipments dedicated for positioning. The deployment of a fingerprinting method consists of off-line phase and on-line phase and more efficient and accurate methods have been studied. This paper proposes a bayesian algorithm for wireless fingerprinting and indoor location determination using fuzzy clustering with bayesian learning as a statistical learning theory.

  • In spite of distortion caused by noise and echo, the audio fingerprinting technique must identify successfully an audio source. This audio fingerprinting technique is applying for TV commercial advertisement identification. In this paper, we propose a robust audio fingerprinting method for TV commercial advertisement identification. In the proposed method, a prominent audio peak pair fingerprint based on constant Q transform improves the accuracy of the audio fingerprinting system in real noisy environments. Experimental results confirm that the proposed method is quite robust than previous audio fingerprinting method in different noise conditions and achieves promising accurate results.

  • All citizens over 17 year old living in Korea have to be fingerprinted to obtain a certificate of resident registration. For this reason, human identification through fingerprints has been used actively in crime scene investigation. The fingerprint is so unique that it is one of the most certain ways to identify oneself and it can differentiate between genetically identical twins. Fingerprints gained in crime scene indicate a direction of criminal investigation in conjecturing a suspect. Fingerprints help a reunion of family got scattered for a long time and make it possible to get a personal identification for missing person who met with natural calamity. We developed a new fingerprinting method using safranine O, so as to develop fingerprints on the adhesive tapes and non-porous papers in various physical environments. Results were compared to the preexisting fingerprinting method, the minutiae numbers of fingerprints were greatly increased in our newly developed safranine O fingerprinting method. This newly developed safranine O method showed a quantity and quality comparable to the preexisting fingerprinting method routinely used in these days. In our hands, the safranine O fingerprinting method is another easy and obvious choice when the forensic case sample is available for fingerprints on the adhesive tapes and non-porous papers.

  • Fingerprinting is a frontier technique that is the most frequently applied for human identification throughout the world. All citizens over 17 year old living in the Republic of Korea must be fingerprinted to obtain a certificate of resident registration. In Korea, for this reason, human identification through fingerprints has been far better developed and used efficiently both in crime scene investigation and in confirmation of an unidentified body. Scientific approaches have been made to accurately extract the metamorphosed fingerprints in various environments. Because most of the studies on fingerprinting have been accomplished with biometric techniques, researches on restoration of human dermal tissue and taking custody data after collecting fingerprints have been comparatively undermined. In this study, a newly innovative method for fingerprint extraction was developed using the polyester film with print powders and the high temperature-moisturizing method. Compared to the conventional fingerprinting method of paper with ink, minutiae numbers of fingerprints were greatly increased in polyester film with print powders after restoration of fingertips by high temperature-moisturization. This newly developed procedure would be an efficient fingerprinting technique which could be utilized in scientific investigation and in personal identification in the future. Furthermore, the new method for restoration and extraction of fingerprints are easy and inexpensive to practice for a number of human identification.

  • The wide use of digital media during the past few years, has led to an increase of digital piracy and tampering. To deal with these problems, the concept of digital fingerprinting has been introduced. Digital fingerprinting is an effective method to identify users who might try to redistribute multimedia content. In this paper, we propose new digital image fingerprinting techniques using watermark shifting scheme and concept of domain.

  • This paper proposes a robust binary audio fingerprinting method by minimizing hinge-loss function. In the proposed method, the type of fingerprints is binary, which is conducive in reducing the size of fingerprint DB. In general, the binarization of features for fingerprinting deteriorates the performance of fingerprinting system, such as robustness and discriminability. Thus it is necessary to minimize such performance loss. Since the similarity between two audio clips is represented by a hinge-like function, we propose a method to derive a binary fingerprinting by minimizing a hinge-loss function. The derived hinge-loss function is minimized by using the minimal loss hashing. Experiments over thousands of songs demonstrate that the identification performance of binary fingerprinting can be improved by minimizing the proposed hinge loss function.

  • Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) is a recently developed PCR-based high resolution fingerprinting method that is able to generate complex banding patterns which can be used to delineate intraspecific genetic relationships among bacteria. In this study, we have modified and evaluated a PCR-based technique, amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analysis, for use in fingerprinting strains of Staphylococcus aureus. Single-enzyme amplified fragment length polymorphism (SE-AFLP) analysis was used to perform strain identification of Staphylococus aureus. By careful selection of AFLP primers, it was possible to obtain reproducible and sensitive identification to strain level. AFLP fingerprinting of 5 reference strains of Staphylococcus aureus and 65 strains of Staphylococcus aureus that were isolated from food sources of different area and diverse genomic types of Staphylococcus aureus were recognized. As a result of this study, we found that the AFLP patterns of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from Seoul, Taejeon and Gwang-Ju indicated the close relation with genetic similarity. The main purpose of this study was to find an alternative and reliable fingerprinting method to study the overall genetic diversity, using Staphylococcus aureus species as an example, and observed if the method can be successfully applied to all staphylococcal species.

  • The standard reference collection of strains for E. coli, the ECOR collection, was analyzed by a genome-based typing method. Seventy-one ECOR strains were subjected to repetitive extragenic palindromic PCR genome fingerprinting with BOX primers (BOX-PCR). Using a similarity value of 0.8 or more after cluster analysis of BOX-PCR fingerprinting patterns to define the same genotypes, we identified 28 genotypes in the ECOR collection. Shannon's entropy-based diversity index was 3.07, and the incident-based coverage estimator indicated potentially 420 genotypes among E. coli populations. Chi-square test of goodness-of-fit showed statistically significant association between the genotypes defined by BOX-PCR fingerprinting and the groups previously defined by multi-locus enzyme electrophoresis. This study suggests that the diversification of E. coli strains in natural populations is actively ongoing, and rep-PCR fingerprinting is a convenient and reliable method to type E. coli strains for the purposes ranging from ecology to quarantine.ine.
