Comparison of the heat conduction into a trapezoidal fin and the heat loss from the fin by convection is made in this study Also, the ratio of heat loss from each surface to the total heat loss and the temperature distribution are analyzed using a 3-D analytical method. A trapezoidal fin whose tip height is half the root height is chosen as the model. The results show that the heat transfer rates from the tip and from both sides are comparable with each other as the non-dimensional width and length vary while the heat transfer rate from the bottom and top is dominant.

A fin of finite width with infinitely small thickness is assumed to be placed horizontally between two horizontal parallel plates of infinite extension in the exactly central position. The lower plate and the half of the upper plate are kept at a constant lower temperature, and the remaining upper plate is kept at a constant higher temperature. The fin is also kept at a constant temperature (variable). Steady-state two-dimensional laminar natural convection is analyzed as a problem of boundary value under a boundary-fitted conformal mapping system, using a spectral finite difference scheme, with a condition of doubly-connectedness. The steady-state solution is obtained as a limit of the transient solution.
The measurements of velocity vectors are made in the near wake(X/d=5.0) of a circular cylinder with serrated fins. Velocity of fluid which flow through fins decreases as increasing fin height and freestream velocity and decreasing fin pitch. Therefore the velocity distribution at X/d=0.0 has lower gradient with increasing freestream velocity and fin height and decreasing fin pitch. The discontinuity of the streamwise velocity gradient is observed near the fin edge and causes significant changes in V-component velocity distribution in the near wake. This change attributes to the differences in Strouhal number and entraintment flow behavior. Increased turbulent intensity around a circular cylinder due to the serrated fins and entrainment flow are important factors for the recovery of velocity defect. The widths of velocity and turbulent intensity distribution of fin tubes are wider than those of a circular cylinder. The normalized velocity and turbulent intensity distributions with a hydraulic diameter which is proposed in this paper are in closer agreement with those of a circular cylinder.
This paper reports the results of a recent experimental study into the behavior of welded fin-plate connections to both hollow and concrete filled tubular (CFT) columns under shear. Experiments have been performed at both ambient and elevated temperatures with the aid of an electric kiln. The observed failure modes include fracture of the fin plate and tearing out of the tube around the welds. By considering the results of previously published research, the current design method for similar connections under purely tensile load, in CIDECT Guide 9, based on a deformation limit of 3% of the tube width is shown to be inadequate when evaluating the ultimate strength of such connections. By comparing the results from the current test program which failed in the fin-plate with Eurocode guidance for failure of a fin-plate alone under shear and bending load it is shown that the column face influences the overall connection strength regardless of failure mode. Concrete in-fill is observed to significantly increase the strength of connections over empty specimens, and circular column specimens were observed to exhibit greater strength than similarly proportioned square columns. A finite element (F.E.) model, developed using ABAQUS, is presented and validated against the experimental results in order that extensive parametric tests may be subsequently performed. When validating the model against elevated temperature tests it was found that using reduction factors suggested in published research for the specific steel grades improved results over applying the generic Eurocode elevated temperature steel strength reduction factors.

The present work was conducted to get the best geometric information for the optimum design of the complex heat exchanger. The objective function for optimal design was expressed as a combination of pressure drop and heat transfer rate. The geometric parameters for the variables of louver pitch and height, tube width, etc., were limited to ranges set by manufacturing conditions. The optimum geometric parameters were calculated by using empirical correlations and theory. The sensitivity of the parameters and optimum values are shown and discussed. The weighting factor in the objective function is important in the selection of the louver fin-tube heat exchanger.

This paper has been presented the transport characteristics of FinFET using the analytical potential model based on the Poisson's equation in subthreshold and threshold region. The threshold voltage is the most important factor of device design since threshold voltage decides ON/OFF of transistor. We have investigated the variations of threshold voltage and drain induced barrier lowing according to the variation of geometry such as the length, width and thickness of channel. The analytical potential model derived from the three dimensional Poisson's equation has been used since the channel electrostatics under threshold and subthreshold region is governed by the Poisson's equation. The appropriate boundary conditions for source/drain and gates has been also used to solve analytically the three dimensional Poisson's equation. Since the model is validated by comparing with the three dimensional numerical simulation, the subthreshold current is derived from this potential model. The threshold voltage is obtained from calculating the front gate bias when the drain current is $10^{-6}A$.
To evaluate the performance of nucleate boiling heat transfer between a plain and micro-fin surfaces, the experimental tests have been carried out under various conditions with fluorinert liquid FC-72, which is chemically and electrically stable. Two kinds of micro fins with the dimensions of $200{{\mu}m}{\times}20{{\mu}m}$ and $100{{\mu}m}{\times}10{{\mu}m}$ (width x height) were fabricated on the surface of a silicon chip. The experiments were performed on the liquid subcooling of 5, 10 and 20K under the atmospheric condition. The presented data showed a similar trend in the comparison with result of Rainey & You. Due to its expanded surface areas, the heat flux properties has been significantly enhanced on micro-fin surface comparing to the plain surface.
