  • Augmented reality is a novel human-machine interaction that overlays virtual computer-generated information on a real world environment. It has found good potential applications in many fields, such as training, surgery, entertainment, maintenance, assembly, product design and other manufacturing operations. In this study, a smartphone-based augmented reality system was developed for the purpose of monitoring and managing injection molding production lines. Required management items were drawn from a management content analysis, and then the items were divided into two broad management categories: line management and equipment management. Effective work management was enabled by providing those working on the shop floor with management content information combined with the actual images of an injection molding production line through augmented reality.

  • Recommender systems, which predict and recommend items that may possibly draw users' interests, have been applied in various fields as e-commerce systems are widespread. Collaborative filtering, one of the major methodologies of recommender systems, recommends either items similar to those preferred by the user, or items preferred by the other similar user. Therefore, two problems determine its performance; one is correct estimation of similarity and the other is predicting the real rating of the recommended item. This study addresses the latter problem. Previous studies predict the real rating based on the mean of the ratings, but this study proposes a prediction based on the range of the ratings and investigates its performance through experiments. As a result, it is demonstrated that the proposed method improves the mean absolute error significantly, compared to the previous method.

  • Police crime statistics report that residential housing such as apartment, low rise, detached houses is the second most vulnerable to crime, which is closely followed by the number of street crimes. Also residential houses are often exposed to quality-of-life crime, e.g burglary. It threatens the basic human rights of house residents in terms of safety and comfort within the urban living environment. This study examines related precedent studies regarding the vulnerability of residential housing including studios, multi-family housing from the viewpoint of crime prevention through environment design(CPTED), extracted the elements and items suitable for the safety of residential facilities and the certification evaluation indicators and check items to be the basis for the checklist are derived. Based on these evaluation indicators and inspection items, we conducted on-site surveys of residential facilities in three areas of Seoul, Yongin and Asan, and the final draft of the checklist was revised based on the results of the field survey. There are 43 items on the 7 fields of evaluation in the final version of checklist, 11 items in the management and operation, 20 items in the surveillance, 7 items in the access control, 1 item in the territoriality, 2 items in the activity support, and 2 items in the security and safety facilities. In addition, various points of interest were added to allow the administrator of the residential facility to earn points for special measures taken for safety. This checklist can be appropriately modified and utilized in consideration of the characteristics of each facility. Korean national police agency has CPOs to check the residential facilities in their jurisdiction using checklists and to certify excellent facilities with high level of safety.

  • This research is for acquiring implications to science education based on learner's characteristics by analyzing the relationship between contents on science learning and cognitive domain of students in elementary schools through TIMSS 2011-based academic achievement test. Forty one multiple choice items from by TIMSS 2011 were used on 317 primary school students, fourth to sixth grade, and according to grade and achievement level of research targets, test results were analyzed. With these data, the relationship between contents on science learning and the score by cognitive domains, and through correlation by items, we drew static and negative correlations, and then compared the value. The result are as follows: First, other fields except for 'physical science' and 'inference' revealed meaningful differences by learners' grade, and the interrelationship between all contents domains and cognitive fields also appeared statically different. Second, both achievement level of contents and cognition of learners presented significant differences, but the correlation between scientific contents and cognitive field of learners showed different aspects. Third, in static and negative correlation by items, the complexity and their aspects could be classified by targets' academic achievement levels.
