Correlations among Life Stress, Dietary Behaviors and Food Choice of College Students (일부 지역 대학생의 생활 스트레스, 식행동, 식품 선택에 관한 상관성 연구)

  • This study was performed to investigate stress levels, dietary behaviors and food choices, and their correlations in college students. General characteristic stress scores, using a stress test, and the dietary behaviors and food choices of subjects under stress were measured in 358 subjects (185 males and 173 female). The mean total stress scores of the male and female students were $67.91{\pm}44.85$ and $85.62{\pm}48.91$, respectively. Female students were more stressed than males in relation to family, value, future, friends, and study related factors. There were gender differences in the food intake and frequency of eating sweet things when under stress. Stress increased the food intake and frequency of eating sweet things in female students. Especially, stress factors, such as value, economic, future, friends and study problems increased the food intake of female students. Female students preferred sweet tasting items; whereas, male students preferred hot tasting items when under stress. These results show the effect of life stresses on the dietary behaviors and food choices of college students. Stress not only increased energy consumption in certain individuals, but also changed their food choices. Therefore, education with regard to nutrition is necessary if college students are to practice good eating habits for the correct management of life stresses.

Self-esteem According to Differences between Real and Ideal Body Mass Index in Female College Students (여대생의 현재 체질량과 이상적 체질량 차이에 따른 자아존중감)

  • Purpose: To investigate self-esteem according to differences between real and ideal Body Mass Index (BMI) in female college students. Methods: Subjects were 587 female students in Korea. Data was collected by using a developed questionnaire through pretesting. Results: Actual number (46.7%) and actual number (5.1%) of participants were defined as being underweight and overweight, respectively. Nearly all participants expression high dissatisfaction with their body shape. Averages of 1.02, 2.97, 7.81 were revealed for underweight, normal weight and overweight group differences between real and ideal BMI. Those who were defined as overweight exhibited significantly self-esteem than those who were defined as underweight. Conclusions: The belief that body shape is heavier than actually the case may be prevalent among female college students in Korea. This difference between the real and ideal BMI negatively influences self-esteem. Programs aimed at improving body image awareness an self-esteem among female college students are needed.

  • Innovation and entrepreneurship education is becoming an important development opportunity for colleges and universities to realize curve overtaking. Affected by the physical and mental development characteristics, female college students in innovative undertaking showed different growth characteristics. In order to further promote female college students' innovative undertaking, we should combine the characteristics of female design with innovation entrepreneurship education path. As one of the three women's colleges, the general innovation and entrepreneurship course system of Shandong Women's University provides a wide education of innovation and entrepreneurship consciousness and thinking for all students. The undergraduate major of business Administration (entrepreneurial management) provides the whole system education of entrepreneurship, and through "system guarantee, professional construction, course system, competition assistance and project cultivation", female students' entrepreneurial consciousness is cultivated and their entrepreneurial ability is improved.

Self-efficacy, Depression and Health Promotion Behaviors of Nursing and Non-nursing Female College Students (간호계열과 비간호계열 여대생의 자기효능감, 우울 및 건강증진행위)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the self-efficacy, depression, and health promotion behaviors of nursing and non-nursing female college students, and to develop a program to improve the health promotion behaviors of female college students. Methods: One hundred sixty-six females (84 nursing, 82 non-nursing) college students participated in the study. Data collection was conducted between November 20 and December 8, 2017. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$ test, ANCOVA, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression analysis with the SPSS/WIN 22.0. Results: The results of health promotion behaviors of the nursing college students were higher than non-nursing college students (F=7.14, p=.008). Both nursing and non-nursing college students showed a positive correlation between health promotion behaviors and self-efficacy, and there was a negative correlation between health promotion behaviors and depression. Self-efficacy was the most influential factor in health promotion behaviors for both nursing and non-nursing female college students. Conclusion: In order to improve the health promotion behaviors of female college students, it is necessary to educate individuals to help them improve their self-efficacy and be able to maintain healthy lifestyles by perceiving and managing their own health conditions.

Body Image, Self-esteem and Depression in College Female Students - Normal and Overweight - (정상체중과 과체중 여대생의 신체상, 자아존중감 및 우울에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among variables of body image, self-esteem and depression in college female students according to the normal and overweight. Method: The subjects of this study consisted of 245 college female students. The data was collected through personal interviews using questionnaires from May to June of 2001. The data was analyzed by the SPSS computer program, and it included descriptive statistics, x$^2$-test, t-test and the pearson correlation coefficient. Result: Demographics provided a significant difference in grade, household income, weight control experience. There was a perceived health status difference, according to the normal and overweight subjects. There was a significant difference in body image, self-esteem and depression between the two groups. There was a significant positive correlation between body image and self-esteem, and negative correlation between body image and depression, and self-esteem and depression in college female students. Conclusion: The Findings of this study give useful information to construct further studies in intervention program relating overweight control for college female students.

Comparison of Money and Credit Attitudes of Female College Students and Housewives (여대생과 주부의 돈과 신용에 대한 태도 비교)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the attitudes toward money and credit between housewives and female cortege students. Female college students were younger and economically dependent. Female college students(n=131) and housewives(n=96) were surveyed for the study. Results of the study were: 1) Housewives perceive money as a security, Female students did money as the emotional tool and the success. 2) Housewives tended to be more negative to use credit generally and more positive under the certain condition compared with female students. 3) Affective style of money attitudes among female students and cognitive style among housewives were more popular 4) Negative type of credit altitudes were more popular among both groups. 5) Negative type of credit attitudes were more poplar in cognitive style of money altitudes and tolerated type were more popular in affective style.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate food habits and food preference of 108 male and 123 female college students through questionnaires. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. Average height of male and female students were 171.8cm, 160.2cm and the average body weight of those were 64.4kg, 51.4kg, respectively. 2. Average PIBW of male and female students were 99.8, 95.3 and average BMI were 21.8, 20.1, respectively. 3. 25 percent of male and 17.1% of female subjects skipped breakfast almost everyday. 4. BMI of those who likes sweet taste was higher than other groups. 5. korean food was favored by college students and the preference of korean food was higher in male than female. 6. In staple foods, cooked rice was preferred most by the subjects, male liked cooked rice more than female. in side-dishes, Pork and beef dish were preferred most in male and Kimchi stew was preferred most in female. in snacks, fruits and bread were preferred most by the subjects.

Self-esteem, Personality and Dating Factors Influencing Positive Affect of Female College Students (자아존중감, 성격 및 이성교제 요인이 여대생의 정적 정서에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to determine factors related to self-esteem, personality, general characteristics and dating affecting positive affect in female college students. Methods: The subjects were 335 female students attending the three colleges in Chungnam Province. Data were collected using PANAS, Self-esteem, and DISC questionnaires. Hierarchical Multiple Regression Analysis was mainly used. Results: The factors affecting positive affect were self-esteem, personality-dominance type, personality -consciousness type, economic status and boyfriend presence in female college students. These 5 factors accounted for 30.3% of positive affect of female students. In cases of having a boyfriend, factors affecting positive affect were self-esteem, economic status, boyfriend's height, and boyfriend's economic status. These 4 factors accounted for 30.5% of positive affect of female students who have a boyfriend. Conclusion: The positive affect levels of female students should be raised in practice through intervention such as a self-esteem improvement program, personality traits intervention program, and counseling on dating.

The Effect of Sexual Knowledge, Sexual Behavior and Self-efficacy on their Reproductive Health Promoting Behaviors in Female College Students (여대생의 성지식, 성행동, 자기효능감이 생식건강증진행위에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors which effect to female college student' reproductive health promoting behavior in female college students. Methods: The design of this study was correlational study and subjects were 127 female college students from two colleges in B metropolitan city. The data collection was carried out from June 1, 2016 to June 30, 2016. Data were collected using questionaires of characteristics of the subjects, sexual knowledge, sexual behavior, and self-efficacy(KGSE). Results: The subjects' reproductive health promoting behavior differed according to the grade, major, smoking, and experience of weight loss of more than 10 kg within the last 3 months. The subjects' reproductive health promoting behavior had positive correlations with sexual knowledge (r=.39, p<.001) and self-efficacy (r=.34, p<.001), and negative correlation with sexual behavior (r=-.23, p=.011). Sexual knowledge and sexual behavior were influencing factors on reproductive health promoting behavior accounting for 23.0%. Conclusion: This study showed that sexual knowledge and sexual behavior were factors affecting female college students' reproductive health promoting behavior and the most influential factor was sexual knowledge.

A Comparative Study on Value Orientation about Family Life between the Older Generations and College Students. (기성세대와 대학생의 가족생활에 대한 가치의식 비교연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the value orientation about family life between the older generations and college student. For this purpose, questionnaire were distributed to the older generations and college students in Seoul. Among them 920 data were obtained To obtain the family value scale, item analysis through pearson's correlation and factor analysis were used in pretest, frequency distribution, percentile, mean , t-test , and step-wise multiple were used for data analysis. The results are summarized as follows. 1) Male college students show traditional tendency and female college students show modern tendency especially sex-role attitude, ancestor worship attitude, patriarchy attitude. 2) Male and female of the older generations how traditional tendency. 3) The older generations show traditional tendency, college students show modern tendency, especially sex-role attitude and kinship attitude. 4) Male adults and male college students show traditional tendency. 5) Female adults show traditional tendency , female college students show modern tendency. In female, generation gap is more serious than males. 6) the most influencial socio-demographic variables on family value consciousness of the older generations are the religion and education, In case of college students, sex, major, religion, family income grown-up area effect on their value consciousness about family life, Based on the above findings , we should develop school education and many social programs to reduce the generation gap.
