  • This study was conducted to determine the effect of the inclusion of different levels of ensiled cassava leaves (variety KM94) in the diets on performance and carcass characteristics of growing pigs in Vietnam. A total of 40 crossbreds pigs (Large White${\times}$Mong Cai, 20 males and 20 females) with an initial live weight of 23.5 kg (SD = 0.86) were randomly allocated to one of the four pens across 5 units. Four experimental diets were formulated for two growth periods, period 1 (60 days) for 20 to 50 kg and period 2 lasted 30 days, from 50 kg until slaughter. Four diets were formulated containing inclusion levels of ensiled cassava KM94 leaves diet of 0, 10, 15 and 20% in the DM. Diets were formulated based on previously determined ileal amino acid digestibility values of the KM94 products and were isonitrogenous and isocaloric on a metabolizable energy basis. Each pen of pigs was randomly assigned to one of the four dietary treatments. Dry matter intake and final weight tended to decreased with increasing levels of ensiled cassava KM94 leaves in the diet while there was a significant (p = 0.022) decrease in average daily gain. Protein depositions of the F1 pigs tended (p = 0.093) to decrease with increasing inclusion levels of ensiled cassava KM94 leaves. There was no significant difference in feed conversion ratio, carcass quality and fat gain between the groups of pigs. There were clear differences in feed costs among the experimental diets (p = 0.001) with increasing levels of ensiled cassava KM 94 leaves in the diet reducing feed costs. It was concluded that, in diets for growing pig, inclusion of ensiled cassava leaves reduces growth rate of pigs in Vietnam but increases profitability as measured by feed costs.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of acetaminophen on feed intake and growth performance of Hanwoo steers in the summer. Eight steers participated in a twelve-week experiment. The steers were randomly assigned into one of two treatments: Control and acetaminophen supplementation. Commercial acetaminophen was top-dressed to a concentrate mix at a rate of 3 g/kg based on dry matter. Individual feed intake was measured daily during the entire period of the experiment, and the intake of forage and concentrate diet were measured separately. The body weight of the steers were measured every 4 weeks. During the experimental period, ambient temperatures were recorded using an automatic temperature and humidity recorder. Acetaminophen had no effect (p > 0.05) on body weight, average daily gain, dry matter intake (DMI) and feed conversion ratio. Numerically, total DMI and concentrate DMI in the acetaminophen treated group were 5.7% and 7.6% lower than those of the control group, respectively, and the daily gain was 9.7% higher. As a result, the feed conversion rate of the acetaminophen treated group improved by 17% compared to the control; however, it was not statistically significant (p = 0.237). The results of this study suggest that acetaminophen supplementation may reduce the feed conversion ratio of Hanwoo steers under high temperature stress. However, further studies are needed to confirm the optimal level of acetaminophen supplementation which has a significant effect on the intake and weight gain of Hanwoo steers in the summer.

  • In this study, a meta-analysis was performed to determine the correlation between the expression of tight junction protein in the intestine and the productivity of broiler chickens. A total of 9 papers were selected in which the result values consisted of the mean and standard deviation value, and the standardized mean difference was calculated to compare the mean of the control and treatment groups. A meta-regression test was conducted to determine the effect of each type of tight junction protein. The TJPs observed in each study were claudin1, claudin2, claudin3, occludin, ZO1, ZO2, etc., and the indicators to indicate the productivity of broilers were body weight gain (BWG), feed intake (FI), and feed conversion rate (FCR), average daily feed intake (ADFI), average daily gain (ADG), and feed/gain ratio (FPG). Although there are differences depending on the type of TJP, it was found that the change in expression level had a close effect on the productivity of broilers. In particular, occludin significantly correlated with body weight gain, feed intake, and feed conversion rate. Based on the results of this study, a study on a method to effectively increase the expression level of TJP is expected to contribute to improving the productivity of broilers and producing safe livestock products.

  • The retrofitting of a thickening unit process is widely considered in municipal wastewater treatment plants in Korea to enhance the anaerobic digestion efficiency. The authors examined the effect of feed concentration (2-34.1 g VS/L) and feed to microorganism (F/M) ratio (0.50-1.35 g VS/g VS) on anaerobic batch digestion of sewage sludge. Methane yield over 90 mL $CH_4/g$ $VS_{feed}$ was found at a feed concentration in the range of 12-26 g VS/L and a F/M ratio below 0.6 g VS/g VS. A high F/M ratio decreased methane yield and rate with oragnic acid accumulation. As sudden increase of sewage sludge concentration prior to anaerobic digestion would jeopardize the digester performance due to the rasied F/M ratio, gradual increase of the sludge feed concentration or an additional biomass retention in the digester is recommended.

  • Minimizing the cylinder wear and the consumption rate of cylinder oil in a large two-stroke diesel engine is of great economic importance. A motor-driven cylinder lubricator for Sulzer RT-flex large two-stroke diesel engines developed by authors is in need of improving the lubricating system to lubricate cylinder parts optimally by an electronically controlled quill device according to changes of engine load and revolution speed. In order to apply the developed accumulating distributor to an integrated cylinder lubricator by the electronically controlled system as the third research stage, the lubricating system is improved in the electronically controlled quill device with a solenoid valve. In this study, the effects of lubricator revolution speed, driving pressure(or plunger stroke) and cylinder back pressure on oil feed rate and lubrication inequality rate are investigated by using the integrated cylinder lubricator system with an accumulated distribution by the electronic control(I.C.S.), and the oil feed rate and lubrication inequality rate of I.C.S. are compared with those of the motor-driven cylinder lubricator by the electronically controlled quill system equipped with an accumulating distributor(E.D.S.). It is found that the oil feed rate of I.C.S. is smaller than that of E.D.S. due to the reduction of delivery velocity by the higher delivery pressure, and the variances of lubrication inequality rate for I.C.S. have become smaller than those of E.D.S. as the driving pressure in all experimental conditions increases, except for the driving pressure of 26 bar(plunger stroke 2 mm) at the cylinder lubricator speed of 120 rpm.

  • Effective drying method of sewage sludge is researched in this study. To dry the sludge, chain crusher flash dryer was adopted to remove moisture content in the cell which is mostly responsible for the sludge moisture content. And Pilot plant experiment was conducted in real life sewage treatment plant to study effect and characteristics of operating conditions. Operating variables include sludge feeding rate, rotational speed of chain, process temperature and feed moisture content. As rotational speed of chain increased, product yield of sludge increased, and the performance of the testing system increased. And, as process temperature increased, the sludge drying efficiency increased. It is found that optimum feed moisture content is at 60% which shows the maximum sludge product yield and about 10 moisture content(%) of sludge product. Sludge feed rate showed optimal value, and when the sludge feed rate is exceeded, sludge product yield did not increased but the amount of residue increased. Pilot plant experiment results are as follow. The optimal condition for the rotational speed of chain 1600rpm(max. speed), final sludge discharge temperature $80^{\circ}C$, feed moisture content 60%, and feed rate 60kg/h. When the plant was operated at the optimal conditions, the final product showed fairly good results such as sludge product yield 85.5%, moisture content 11.0% and sludge drying efficiency 81.7%.

  • Nowadays, most micro-patterns are manufactured during flow line production. However, a conventional rotary chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) system has a limited throughput for the fabrication of large and flexible electronics. To overcome this problem, we propose a novel linear roll-CMP system for the planarization of large-area electronics. In this paper, we present a statistical analysis on the linear roll-CMP process of copper-clad laminate (CCL) to determine the impacts of process parameters on the material removal rate (MRR) and its non-uniformity (NU). In the linear roll-CMP process, process parameters such as the slurry flow rate, roll speed, table feed rate, and down force affect the MRR and NU. To determine the polishing characteristics of roll-CMP, we use Taguchi's orthogonal array L16 (44) for the experimental design and F-values obtained by the analysis of variance (ANOVA). We investigate the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio to identify the prominent control parameters. The "higher is better" for the MRR and "lower is better" for the NU were selected for obtaining optimum CMP performance characteristics. The experimental and statistical results indicate that the down force and roll speed mainly affect the MRR and the down force and table feed rate determine the NU in the linear roll-CMP process. However, over 186.3 N of down force deteriorates the NU because of the bending of substrate. Roll speed has little relationship to the NU and the table feed rate does not impact on the MRR. This study provides information on the design parameter of roll-CMP machine and process optimization.

  • Characteristics of flow rate control has been studied for a cavitating venturi adopted in a liquid rocket propellant feed system. Both experiment and numerical simulation have been performed to give about 10% discrepancy of mass flow rate for cavitating flow regime. Mass flow rate is confirmed to be saturated for pressure difference higher than $3{\times}10^5$pa when the upstream pressure is fixed to $22.8{\times}10^5$pa and the downstream pressure is varied. The evaporation amount depends substantially to non-condensable gas concentration. However the mass flow rate characteristics is relatively insensitive to the mass fraction of non-condensable gas. So it reduces by only 2% when the non-condensable gas concentration is increased from 1.5PPM to 150PPM. From the previous comparison the expansion of the non-condensable gas and the evaporation of liquid are verified to gave same effect to the pressure recovery pattern.

  • A total of fourteen primiparous sows' (Landrace × Yorkshire) were used to determine the effects of two patterns of feed intake during early gestation on the growth performance and litter characteristics in sows. Daily feed intake from day 5 to 112 of gestation for parity 1 sows was 2.2 kg·d-1 of feed offered with the exception of seven sows who were offered 3.2 kg·d-1 from day 90 to 108 of gestation (TRT A) or 2.5 kg·d-1 (d 5 - 60) and 2 kg·d-1 (d 60 - 90) of feed with the exception of seven sows who were offered 3.5 kg·d-1 from day 90 to 108 of gestation (TRT B). The different feed intake patterns in early gestation did not have a significant effect on body weight, backfat thickness, or body condition score during, before, and after farrowing (p > 0.05) respectively. However, initial to d 60, backfat thickness difference was significantly improved by TRT B patterns of feed intake during early gestation. In addition, during the overall experiment, average daily feed intake was significantly enhanced for sows in the dietary TRT B group feed intake pattern (p = 0.0001). The fecal score during day 90 was significantly reduced (p = 0.0132) in sows fed with TRT B feed intake pattern. Litter size, litter survival rate, and initial weight showed no significant differences with different feed efficiency of gestating sows. In summary, the results indicate that the 2.5 kg·d-1 gestation intake pattern allowed gestating sows to obtain optimal performance.

  • Objective: The object of this study was to investigate the effect of replacing soybean meal with Clostridium autoethanogenum protein (CAP) in broiler diets on growth performance, blood indicators, antioxidant capacity, and immune function. Methods: A total of 180 Arbor Acres broilers were randomly divided into three treatments, each treatment with six replicates and 10 broilers per replicate for a 42-day feeding trial. The control group (CON) was fed corn-soybean meal based diet. The CAP-1 and CAP-2 groups were considered to use CAP to replace 25% or 50% of soybean meal in the diet, respectively. The average daily gain and average daily feed intake of broilers at 1 to 21 d, 22 to 42 d, and 1 to 42 d were measured, and the feed conversion ratio was calculated. At the 42nd day of age, two broilers with similar weights and fasted for 12 h were selected in each replicate for blood collection from the brachial wing vein. The blood routine indicators, serum biochemical indicators, serum antioxidant capacity, and immunoglobulin content of broiler chickens were measured. Results: Replacement of soybean meal with 25% (CAP-1) and 50% (CAP-2) CAP significantly increased the average daily gain of 22 to 42 d and 1 to 42 d and decreased the average daily feed intake and feed conversion rate (p<0.05). The CAP-1 group, and CAP-2 group significantly increased hemoglobulin in the blood of broilers, while the CAP-2 group increased hematocrit content (p<0.05). Compared with the control group, the contents of superoxide dismutase and immunoglobulin A in serum of the CAP-2 group were significantly increased, while the contents of malondialdehyde in CAP group were significantly decreased (p<0.05). Conclusion: Replacing soybean meal with CAP led to significant improvements in the growth performance, antioxidant capacity, and immunoglobulin content of broilers.
