This paper presents a novel video metrology approach based on robust tracking. From videos acquired by an uncalibrated stationary camera, the foreground likelihood map is obtained by using the Codebook background modeling algorithm, and the multiple moving objects are tracked by a combined tracking algorithm. Then, we compute vanishing line of the ground plane and the vertical vanishing point of the scene, and extract the head feature points and the feet feature points in each frame of video sequences. Finally, we apply a single view mensuration algorithm to each of the frames to obtain height measurements and fuse the multi-frame measurements using RANSAC algorithm. Compared with other popular methods, our proposed algorithm does not require calibrating the camera, and can track the multiple moving objects when occlusion occurs. Therefore, it reduces the complexity of calculation and improves the accuracy of measurement simultaneously. The experimental results demonstrate that our method is effective and robust to occlusion.
In computer vision, visual tracking method addresses the problem of localizing an specific object in video sequence according to the bounding box. In this paper, we propose a tracking method by introducing the feature correlation comparison into the siamese network to increase its matching identification. We propose a way to compute location of object to improve matching performance by a correlation operation, which locates parts for solving the searching problem. The higher layer in the network can extract a lot of object information. The lower layer has many location information. To reduce error rate of the object center point, we built a siamese network that extracts the distribution and location information of target objects. As a result of the experiment, the average center error rate was less than 25%.
An online mean-shift object tracking algorithm, which consists of a learning stage and an estimation stage, is proposed in this work. The learning stage selects the features for tracking, and the estimation stage composes a likelihood image and applies the mean shift algorithm to it to track an object. The tracking performance depends on the quality of the likelihood image. We propose two schemes to generate and integrate likelihood images: one based on the discrete AdaBoost (DAB) and the other based on the real AdaBoost (RAB). The DAB scheme uses tuned feature values, whereas RAB estimates class probabilities, to select the features and generate the likelihood images. Experiment results show that the proposed algorithm provides more accurate and reliable tracking results than the conventional mean shift tracking algorithms.

In this paper, we propose a vision-based object detection and tracking system using online learning. The proposed system adopts a feature point-based method for tracking a series of inter-frame movement of a newly detected object, to estimate rapidly and toughness. At the same time, it trains the detector for the object being tracked online. Temporarily using the result of the failure detector to the object, it initializes the tracker back tracks to enable the robust tracking. In particular, it reduced the processing time by improving the method of updating the appearance models of the objects to increase the tracking performance of the system. Using a data set obtained in a variety of settings, we evaluate the performance of the proposed system in terms of processing time.
Many AR (Augmented Reality) applications have been interested in a marker-less tracking since the tracking methods give camera poses without attaching explicit markers. In this paper, we propose a new marker-less page recognition and tracking algorithm for an AR book application such as DigilogBook. The proposed method only requires orthogonal images of pages, which need not to be trained for a long time, and the algorithm works in real-time. The page recognition is done in two steps by using SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) descriptors and the comparison evaluation function. And also, the method provides real-time tracking with 25fps ~ 30fps by separating the page recognition and the frame-to-frame matching into two multi-cores. The proposed algorithm will be extended to various AR applications that require multiple objects tracking.

When the scene has less texture or when camera pose largely changes, the existing texture-based feature tracking methods are not reliable. Topology-based feature description methods, which use the geometric relationship between features such as LLAH, is a good alternative. However, they require feature detection methods with high performance. As a basic study on developing an effective feature detection method for topology-based feature description, this paper aims at examining their applicability to topology-based feature description by analyzing the repeatability of several feature detection methods that are included in the OpenCV library. Experimental results show that FAST outperforms the others.

This paper presents a marker image evaluation method based on analysis of object distribution in images and classification of images with repetitive patterns for effective marker-based augmented reality (AR) system development. We measure the variance of feature point coordinates to distinguish marker images that are vulnerable to occlusion, since object distribution affects object tracking performance according to partial occlusion in the images. Moreover, we propose a method to classify images suitable for object recognition and tracking based on the fact that the distributions of descriptor vectors among general images and repetitive-pattern images are significantly different. Comprehensive experiments for marker images confirm that the proposed marker image evaluation method distinguishes images vulnerable to occlusion and repetitive-pattern images very well. Furthermore, we suggest that scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) is superior to speeded up robust features (SURF) in terms of object tracking in marker images. The proposed method provides users with suitability information for various images, and it helps AR systems to be realized more effectively.
This paper first discusses the disadvantages of the existing CamShift Algorithm for real time face tracking, and then proposes a new Camshift Algorithm that performs better than the existing algorithm. The existing CamShift Algorithm shows unstable tracking when tracing similar colors in the background of objects. This drawback of the existing CamShift is resolved by using Kinect’s pixel-by-pixel depth information and the Skin Detection algorithm to extract candidate skin regions based on HSV color space. Additionally, even when the tracking object is not found, or when occlusion occurs, the feature point-based matching algorithm makes it robust to occlusion. By applying the improved CamShift algorithm to face tracking, the proposed real-time face tracking algorithm can be applied to various fields. The results from the experiment prove that the proposed algorithm is superior in tracking performance to that of existing TLD tracking algorithm, and offers faster processing speed. Also, while the proposed algorithm has a slower processing speed than CamShift, it overcomes all the existing shortfalls of the existing CamShift.

An effective algorithm for tracking rigid or non-rigid moving object(s) which segments local moving parts from image sequence in the presence of backgraound motion by camera movenment, predicts the direction of it, and tracks the object is proposed. It requires no camera calibration and no knowledge of the installed position of camera. In order to segment the moving object, feature points configuring the shape of moving object are firstly selected, feature flow field composed of motion vectors of the feature points is computed, and moving object(s) is (are) segmented by clustering the feature flow field in the multi-dimensional feature space. Also, we propose IRMAS, an efficient algorithm that finds the convex hull in order to cinstruct the shape of moving object(s) from clustered feature points. And, for the purpose of robjst tracking the objects whose movement characteristics bring about the abrupt change of moving trajectory, an improved order adaptive lattice structured linear predictor is used.
In recent years there have been increasing interests in real-time object tracking with image information. Since image information is affected by illumination, this paper presents the real-time object tracking method based on neural networks that have robust characteristics under various illuminations. This paper proposes three steps to track the object and the fast tracking method. In the first step the object color is extracted using neural networks. In the second step we detect the object feature information based on invariant moment. Finally the object is tracked through a shape recognition using neural networks. To achieve the fast tracking performance, we have a global search for entire image and then have tracking the object through local search when the object is recognized.
