The purpose of this study is to evaluate the content knowledge and problem solving process used by pre-service earth science teachers while discriminating faults on geological maps. For this, we collected and evaluated data on fixation duration and gaze plot, while pre-service earth science teachers (N=12) solved the problem on faults interpretation using an eye tracker (Tobii Pro Glass 2 model). The results were as follows. First, most of the pre-service earth science teachers know the concepts of the normal and reverse fault but they do not know the procedural knowledge essential for fault interpretation on geological maps. Second, the pre-service earth science teachers did not draw a geological cross-sectional map to interpret the fault on the geological map and interpreted the fault based on two-dimensional information collected from the geological map rather than three-dimensional information. Therefore, it is essential to improve the teaching and learning environment so that pre-service earth science teachers who will become earth science teachers in the future can learn procedural knowledge essential to comprehend natural phenomena including understanding natural phenomena. The results of this study can substantially help organize a new earth science curriculum or develop materials on teachers' education in the future.

In the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula, huge fault valleys, including the Yangsan and Ulsan faults, are recognized. These NNE-SSW trending lineaments are called as a whole Yangsan Fault System. However, this fault system is relatively poorly studied except the Yangsan and Ulsan faults. This study deduced the paleostress history based on the mutual cross-cutting relationships between geologic structures developed in the granite body near the Ilgwang fault, which is compared with previous studies. In the study area, four lineaments parallel to the Ilgwang fault are recognized, and three of them show evidences of faulting. In each lineament, both slip-senses of left-lateral and right-lateral are recognized. It indicates that these faults consistently underwent multiple deformations of inversion along the faults. The inferred paleostress directions based on the mutual cross-cutting relationships of the geological structures are as follows: 1) Tensile fractures developed in the late Cretaceous under the ENE-WSW direction of compressive stress, 2) NW-SE trending maximum horizontal principal stress generated conjugate strike-slip faults, and 3) selective reactivations of some structures were derived under the compression by the NE-SW trending principal stress.
The study area is located in between Susanri and Hwanggangri where the formations of Okcheon group and Chosun group supposedly come in contact so that the area is structurally very import. Present study reveals that the meta-volcanic rocks distribute from south to north along contact zone of Okcheon and Chosun groups in the center of the area. Meta-volcanic rocks seem to be originated from the andesite or andesitic basalt rocks which was known to be Surchangri formation consist of phyllite and black slate by previous workers. The meta-volcanic rocks intruded along the fault zone one existed between Okcheon and Chosun groups but obliterated at present by the intrusion of volcanic rocks. The fault seems to be overthrust, and one of the positive evidences of thrust fault is the Yamisan nappe structure in Yamisan near Susanri. This interpretation coincides with O.J. Kim's work which states that the Precambrian Okcheon group is largely overturned and thrusted over the Chosun group. The relation between the Surchangri and the Majeonri formation marks facies change. This fact together with northpluging anticlinal structure made it possible that both formation came into contact along direction without fault. Yongam formation is not overlain unconformably used to be believed by previous workers, but interbed in the Great Limestone series of Chosun goup. It is also clarified that the rock formerly designated as limesilicate rock was meta-liparite. The origin of amphibole pebbles in the Kunjasan formation is of primary and secondary ones; the secondary pebbles were formed by metamorphism of the fragments of limestone or dolomite.
In this paper I understand Zizek's interpretation of Christianity, and examine it critically and suggest its alternative. Zizek argues that Christianity in its core is turned out to be atheist. His atheist Christianity exposes revolutionary potentials with Christianity. His exploration of Christianity is designed to fight against global capitalism. It means an ideological praxis in theory. But he is misleading in interpreting Christianity. It is his fault that while he places much stress on the participatory interpretation of Jesus's death, he belittles the sacrificial interpretation of it. For the subversive power of Christianity springs from the latter. To tell the truth, Christianity is strongly grounded on simultaneous fulfillment of both of them. Zizek. In interpreting Christianity, he delivers us uncorrect understanding of sacrificial interpretation of Jesus's death while he intends to reveal the subversive core of Christianity. In particular, he is lacking in understanding the atonement function and expiation effect immanent in Jesus's death. There is no participatory interpretation without sacrificial interpretation. In this view, Zizek's pagan Christianity has to be revised or rejected. So, I suggest it is possible through orthodox Christianity, not through pagan Christianity to restore and reactivate the subversive core of Christianity in itself and by itself. The burden of proof is up to fighting theist, not fighting atheist like Zizek.

Gravity data were analyzed to identify the cause of clustered seismicity that occurred intensively in Yeoncheon, located in the central part of the Korean Peninsula. Our analysis suggests that the En echelon faults developed in the northwest-southeast direction. In addition, in the eastern part of the Dongducheon Fault, it was interpreted that high-density lower bedrock intermittently lifts close to the surface due to vertical tectonic movement accompanied by a flower structure. The fracture zone of the Dongducheon Fault is estimated that the width is about 200 m, the depth is at least 5 km, and the density is about 15% lower than the adjacent rocks. It is analyzed that the shallow earthquakes that occurred within 5 km depth was concentrated along the low-density En echelon fault fracture zone developed between the high-density rocks intruding close to the surface. Therefore, the earthquakes can be interpreted as the result that the north-south stress caused by the dextral tectonic movement of the Dongducheon Fault activated the En echelon fault in the northwest-southeast direction.

Microscopic examination of the morphology of wear debris is an accepted method for machine condition and fault diagnosis. However wear particle analysis has not been widely accepted in industry because it is dependent on expert interpretation of particle morphology and subjective assessment criteria. This paper was undertaken to analyze the morphology of wear debris for machine condition diagnosis of the lubricated moving surfaces by image processing and analysis. The lubricating wear test was performed under different sliding conditions using a wear test device made in our laboratory and wear testing specimen of the pin-on-disk-type was rubbed in paraffine series base oil. In order to describe characteristics of debris of various shape and size, four shape parameters (50% volumetric diameter, aspect, roundness and reflectivity) have been developed and outlined in the paper. A system using such techniques promises to obviate the need for subjective, human interpretation of particle morphology in machine condition monitoring, thus to overcome many of the difficulties in current methods and to facilitate wider use of wear particle analysis in machine condition monitoring.
The geological structures and some of the stratigraphy in the area studied are being thought to be ambiguous and controvertible. The present study intended to clarify these ambiguities by correct interpretation of the geological structures and lithostratigraphy of the area concerned. The so-called "Sambangsan formation", which was designated as an unknown age by the Taebaksan Geological Investigation Corps (1962) and as the mid Cambrian age by T. Kobayashi (1966) and I.S. Kim (1983), has been determined by the present study as the $Hongj{\breve{o}}m$ series of Carbo-Permian age resting unconformably on the Cambro-Ordovician limestone formations. This determination was supported by conodont study concurrently carried out by I.S.Kim. The so-called "Daehari formation", which was renamed by the later study group after the original "Sambangsan formation" distributed in the area from southwest of Sambangsan toward southwest to $Juch{\breve{o}}n$, possesses more or less the same lithlogy as "Sambangsan formation" of the old designation in the eastern of the area, but different lithology in the western localities where Sadong formation, the basal sandstone member of the Kobangsan formation and the green shale member of the Nokam formation are cropped out. The narrow belt of the complex mixture of the $Py{\breve{o}}ngan$ group in-between limestone formations extending over 16km with a width of 500m to 1000m was formed by the faults: the northern boundary with the limestone formations is a fault contact all the way through entire area and the southern boundary is either fault contact in most of the area and unconformity in some other area. The $Hongj{\breve{o}}m$ formation on the Mt. Sambangsan shows rather steeply dipping nearly isoclinal folds which plunges $10^{\circ}$ to $20^{\circ}$ southward. There are also field evidences that the limestone formations distributed in both north and south of the Hongjom formation (erstwhile "Sambangsan formation") along the Sambangsan ridge are the same formations and show the same folding as the $Hongj{\breve{o}}m$ formation. Therefore, these limestone formations should be rezoned in the light of the new structural interpretation although they were differently designated in the previous studies as $Py{\breve{o}}ngchang$ and $Y{\breve{o}}ngw{\breve{o}}l$-type of the Joson Group. The structures developed in the area mostly faults, which acted as one of the guides for the new interpretation of the geology and structure of the area are described and shown on the geologic map.

The errors between track segments or at the cross-over points of shipborne gravity were successfully reduced by applying a cross-over error adjustment technique using satellite gravity. The integration of shipborne and satellite altimeter-implied free-air gravity anomalies after the cross-over error adjustment resulted in a high resolution gravity map which contains both short and long wavelength components. The successful adjustment of the cross-over errors in the shipborne gravity using the satellite gravity suggests that the shipborne gravity can be combined with the satellite anomalies characterized by a stable and long wavelength component. The resulting free-air anomaly map is evenly harmonized with both short and long wavelength anomalies. Thus the corrected anomaly map can be better used for the geological interpretation. Free-air anomalies with more than 140 mGal in total variations generally correspond to the seafloor topographic changes in their regional patterns. A series of gravity highs are aligned from the Korea Plateau to the Oki Island, which are interpreted to be caused by seamounts or volcanic topographies. The gravity minima along the western and southern shelf edge are associated not only with the local basement morphology and thick sediment fill at the continental margin, but also possibly with the crustal edge effect known for passive continental margins. Series of NE-trending linear anomalies are possibly caused by a swarm of volcanic intrusions followed the initial opening of the Ulleung Basin. The linear high anomalies in the Ulleung Plateau are terminated by the straightly NNW-trending anomalies with a sharp gradient in its western boundary which indicates a fault-line scarp. The opposite side adjoined with the fault-line scarp shows no correlation with the fault-line scarp in geometry indicating that the block might be horizontally slided from the north. A gravity high in contrast to the deepening in seafloor toward the northeastern central Ulleung Basin is probably responsible for the thin crust and shallow seated mantle. This study shows the developing process of the risk assessment models for railway casualty accidents. To evaluate the risks of these accidents, the hazardous events and the hazardous factors were identified by the review of the accident history and engineering interpretation of the accident behavior. The frequency of each hazardous event was evaluated from the historical accident data and structured expert judgments by using the Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) technique. In addition, to assess the severity of each hazardous event, the ETA (Event Tree Analysis) technique and other safety techniques were applied. The risk assessment models developed can be effectively utilized in defining the risk reduction measures in connection with the option analysis.
In a Gas Insulated Substation (GIS), Very Fast Transients (VFTs) are generated mainly due to switching operations. These transients may cause internal faults, i.e., layer-to-layer faults in a capacitively graded bushing as it is one of the most important terminal equipment for GIS. The healthiness of the bushing is generally verified by measuring its leakage current. However, the change in current magnitude/pattern is only marginal for different types of fault conditions. Leakage current monitoring (LCM) systems generate large amounts of data and computer aided interpretation of defects may be of great assistance when analyzing this data. In view of the above, ANN techniques have been used in this study for identification of these minor faults. A single layer perceptron network, a two layer feed-forward back propagation network and cascade correlation (CC) network models are used to identify interlayer faults in the bushing. The effectiveness of the CC network over perceptron and back propagation networks in identification of a fault has been analysed as part of the paper.
