The purpose of this study was to clarify how adolescent recognize their father according to the father demographic characteristics. The analysis was performed for 400 students in Seoul on the basis of two measuring tools that were adolescent's father image criterion developed from Seon hwa Cho, Myung seon Choi(2004) and semantic analysis criterion from Osgood(l957). Father image were inclined to friend when their father was younger. Adolescent were recognizing their father as a friend, advisor, and able man when their father had high level profession. On the other hand they felt father as a difficult being to make intimate relationship when their father had management occupations. Christian and Buddhist fathers were recognized as a advisor. Catholic and Christian father were showing less tired aspect rather than Buddhist and atheism father. Catholic and Buddhist fathers were recognized more active person. Adolescent were recognized their father as a friend, advisor, and able man when their father were high educated person.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between father's beliefs on child rearing and children's self-perceptions. The subject of this study were comprised of 167 third-grade children (ages 8-10) and their father. To summarize major findings from the analyses : First, a significant difference was found in the degree of father's beliefs about child rearing by number of child , father's education, father's job, level of life, relationship between father and child in independence and by number of child, level of life, relationship between father and child in accommodation. Second, children's self-perception was related to father's education, father's income, father's job, relationship between father and child, child's gender, father's marital satisfaction, father's job. Third, according to the multiple regression analyses for the relationships between father's beliefs about child rearing and children's self perceptions, there was a positive relationship between father's belief's on the creativity, problem-solving skill, accommodation. Father's SES status, relationship between father and child was a positive relationship children's self-perceptions. Father's beliefs on the creativity was a positive relationship children's self-perceptions but father's belief's on the accommodation was a negative relationship children's scholastic performance, behavioral conduct.
The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of father's socio-demographic variables and father's literacy beliefs on father's literacy interaction. Participants were 204 fathers who have children in 3 to 5 years of age. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The findings are summarized as follows: (1) Father's education level was generally correlated with 'father role efficiency', 'open interaction', 'picture-book reading interaction' (2) Monthly income of the household was related 'father role efficiency', 'positive feelings on reading books'. (3) 'Literacy ability development from books', 'father role efficiency', 'positive feeling on reading books' were correlated 'open interaction' and 'picture book reading'. But, 'literacy ability development from books', 'father role efficiency', 'positive feeling on reading books' were negatively correlated 'direct interaction'. (4) The most influential factor on father's 'open interaction', 'direct interaction' was 'literacy ability development from books'. The most influential factor on father's 'picture-book reading' was 'positive feeling on reading books'. These findings highlight that 'literacy ability development from books' and 'positive feeling on reading books' may play critical roles in father's literacy interaction. So, it is very important that adequate training and support on father's literacy beliefs for father's high quality literacy interaction.
The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument for adolescent's image about their father. The preliminary survey was performed for 318 adolescents in Seoul. It was a free-writing style survey for adolescent's image, feeling, and thoughts about their father. The main survey which included 121 contents were performed for 400 students in Seoul and finally 75 contents were selected by the results of factor analysis and contents validation. The contents were categorized into 10 sub-variables based on previous studies. 10 sub-variables are Father of mature character, Father who do love me, Father who is devoted to his parents, Father as a friend, Father as a counsellor, Father who is very domestic, Father who is exhausted with work, Father who is hard to be familiar for me, Father with financial competence, Father responsible for supporting the family. This study showed construct validity and concurrent evidence because the correlation among the sub-variables and total score were high.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating role of the father's play participation in the relationship between father playfulness and father-child intimacy. Methods: We conducted a survey of 500 fathers with 3~5 years olds attending kindergartens and located in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. Father's Playfulness Scale, Father's Play Participation Scale, and Father-Child Intimacy Scale were used as data measuring tools. The data collected in this study were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 Program. Results: As a result of examining sub-variables of play participation among fathers, it turned out that mediating effects occurred in physical play, role play, and function play. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study suggest the necessity of developing a father education program to increase the intimacy between father and child as the role of father becomes increasingly important in the age of co-parenting.
This study recognizes the changes of the father's role and the importance of family mealtimes as well as examines the individual, family and social contexts surrounding the father's family mealtime. This study analyzed the trend of the father's family mealtime frequency and factors affecting them in order to explore the current conditions of their father's work and family balance through family mealtimes. Data from 492 fathers who have school aged children were collected through an online survey. The overall trend of the frequency of father's family meals showed an average of 2.4 breakfasts and an average of 3.2 dinners per week. The frequency of the father's family meals showed statistically significant differences according to the father's age, children's school age, dual income, weekly working hours, working flexibility, leaving on-time and the priority of work and family. The analysis of hierarchical linear regressions was conducted to determine factors affecting the frequency of father's family mealtime to show that the frequency of father's family mealtime was best explained by father's working conditions and perception variables. Working conditions such as working hours, leaving work on time, working flexibility were significant variables in regards to the father's family mealtime frequency. The father's perception towards parental efficacy, wife's support, and work-family priority were significant factors in regards to the father's family mealtime frequency. This study is meaningful in that it provides basic data on policy making for the compatibility of the father's work and family.
The purpose of this study is to systematize the theory of the father-child relationship by analyzing the father's role and father-child interaction. The results of this study are as followings: (1) The oedipal period 3 to 5 years is a critical in development of the father-child relationship. Father absence is assumed in infancy but it is denying because the father participates in Child- rearing activity. (2) The Father's role is symbolized instrumental role traditionally and culturally but it is appropriate that we think the father's role to be androgynous concepts. (6) There are much similarity that difference between father-child interaction and mother- child interaction. Qualitative difference in interaction is response style. A responsive style of the father is physical intellectual instructive but mother's is verbal. (7) The effects of the father to a child must be analyzed on dyadic dimension and triadic dimension of family network. In triadic dimension, father influences mother- child relationship, mother to response sensitively, husband-wife relation.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the father related variables on children's self-esteem and school adjustment. Father related variables were father's child-rearing involvement, fathers parenting behavior and father-child communication style. The subjects were 236 - 5th and 6th graders of elementary schools in Daegu. The major finding were as follows: First, children's self-esteem was affected by father's child-rearing involvement, fathers parenting behavior and father-child communication style. The purpose of this study is to investigate various factors which affect father's child-rearing attitudes through the examination of father-child relationships. In other words, the study aims at finding out how the variables possessed by father side operate on his child-rearing attitudes according to the sex and birth-order of children. Hence, the study is carried out on the hypothesis that father's variables such as age, education, occupation, religion, etc. show different aspects on child-rearing attitudes by way of a child's sex and birth-order. The results of the study show that the factors that affect father's child-rearing attitudes are child's variables such as sex and birth-order as well as father's variables such as education, occupation and religion. describing these factors I detail, the study shows that father has higher concern on daughter rather than on son; the higher education he has, the higher his concern is; and when father has a white-collar job or is a Christian, he shows higher concern on his children. The above mentioned factors are analyzed and classified as follows by the child-rearing contents: A. The factors which affect father's concern one his children are: 1) sex, 2) father's education and 3) occupation related to the sex and birth-order of children. B. Finally, father's age is proved to be a factor that does not give any significance in his child-rearing attitudes.
The purpose of this study is to develop a program which aims at providing a better understanding of parenthood, establishing a desirable value of being a parent and preparing for being a good father positively affecting children, and determine effects of the program on unmarried men who are in the so-called stage of 'not belonged youth'. The program consisted of 5 sessions titled 'My father, 'I will be a father, too', 'Being a good father I', 'Being a good father II' and 'I will be a respectable father'. 7 unmarried men surveyed here were asked to participate in the program held at B church located in Busan from Oct. 3 to Nov. 7, 2004, with 1 session a week and 120 minutes per session based. Before and after the program, tests were carried out with the father acceptance-rejection scale and the scale of confidence in father's role'. For each of the sessions, a process evaluation was performed. Results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, the pre- and post-tests with the father acceptance-rejection scale showed some changed recognition that father's attitude of child raising would be more acceptable and unrejectable. This indicates that the program made some achievements in relation to understanding and reestablishing relations with father. Second, significant differences were found in confidence in father's role between before and after the program. Especially, anxiety about father's role as a sub-area of such confidence was most considerably reduced. In conclusion, such objectives of the program as removing vague anxiety about father's role, establishing a desirable view of fatherhood and improving confidence about being a father proved to be achievable through getting skills of child understanding with the concept of developmental perspective and narrative therapy based.
