  • Today, as individuals show their social identities and reflect their being as the members of society with a culture, an art style and communication function are stood out in fashion photographs. Accordingly, the meanings of images into text are expanded in its interpretative width through the acceptor's various terms. This researcher looked into four theories of both positions on the textuality of language and image, and considered the point of discussion on image of each theory through modern fashion photographs. First, the theory which divides language and image as auditory and visual recognitions in the textuality of language and image is limited from the view it focuses on only one side without considering the ambivalent elements of each field. For the textuality in modern fashion photographs, the observer attempts to turn it into text to give meaning to it as the recognition through five senses conforming to the acceptor's condition. Second, the theory dividing language and image into the text of time properties and spacial properties has limitation in the text, for acceptor's experience of the object appears as the structured form in time and space rather than being defined as two things like time and space. Third, the theory classifying the language and image text into conventional taste and natural taste has limitation from the view that image text is hardly an object of consistent classification in ease of recognition by the code accepted in society. Thus, this can't be fundamental approach for the understanding of the text of decoding trend represented in modern fashion photographs. Fourth, accordingly, this researcher focussed on contextual and arbitrary text of fashion photographs through the theory of Nelson Goodman which discusses image text through the differences in textuality. Basic mechanism of perceiving and recognizing and distinguish image is closely related to habit and custom like language. So, each acceptor perceives the image as a text through arbitrary interpretation obtained by individual, empirical, historical, and educational viewpoints. The textuality of modern fashion photographs aims to widen the range of diverse knowledge and understanding, transcending the regulations of simple function of existing fashion photographs. Consequently, this researcher puts forward the opinion of consistent and diverse follow-up studies on instilling meaning into fashion photographs for the understanding de-regulatory and de-constructive through various senses by avoiding only one sense-dependent fixed and regulatory properties of it.

  • For the study on the African style reflected in fashion designs since 2000, the applications of African style shown in the four major collections from 2000 S/S to 2005 F/W and some African designers' collections have been analyzed and compared. In this study, 218 pieces of fashion design from the four major collections and 80 pieces from the African designers' collections have been analyzed in three categories - traditional clothes, traditional textile design and accessories. First, in the formal application of traditional clothes, the western clothes seasoned with the traditional images takes the majority of the cases in both the four major collections and the African designers' collections by 89.4% and 77.5%, respectively. However, the African designers have a tendency to actively receive modernism on the traditional clothes, while most of the western designers in the four major collections re-explain and distort the natural and primitive images of Africa into the ones longed for by the westerns. Second, in the textile design, the African designers adopt colorful and geometrical patterns of traditional textile designs of West Africa, while various animalistic patterns (36.2%) are used in the four major collections. The western designers mistakenly mix these patterns with those from the West or other traditional patterns from different cultures, obstructing proper understanding of the African culture. Third, accessories are the cultural elements most widely utilized by the African designers. In the African designers' collections, they are simplified to provide the functions well-matched with the modern clothes. In the four major collections, however, the primitive and colorful accessories found in African tribal culture are used in an exaggerated manner.

  • When a person wears clothing, it is important to configure an outfit appropriate to the intended occasion. Therefore, T.P.O(Time, Place, Occasion) of the outfit is considered in various fashion recommendation systems based on artificial intelligence. However, there are few studies that directly infer the T.P.O from outfit images, as the nature of the problem causes multi-label and class imbalance problems, which makes model training challenging. Therefore, in this study, we propose a model that can infer the T.P.O of outfit images by employing a label-distribution-aware margin(LDAM) loss function. Datasets for the model training and evaluation were collected from fashion shopping malls. As a result of measuring performance, it was confirmed that the proposed model showed balanced performance in all T.P.O classes compared to baselines.

Traditional lattice patterns of the Joseon Dynasty were examined theoretically through the literature. Based on theoretical grounds, there is study illustrates vest designs using Adobe Illustrator CS6 as well as works on a 3D virtual costume using CLO Trial 4.2, a 3D virtual dressing system of CLO Virtual Fashion. This study developed an easy to wear vest design categorized as clothes for both men and women. The geometric formality of the lattice pattern has been applied to fashion culture products. In this study, the design was developed focusing on lattice, kotsal (flower pattern), sosulbitsal (diagonal), sotdaesal, tisal (horizontal & vertical). • The beauty industry of today tends to gradually develope as one of the important marketing strategies along with the total fashion sector. Hair color, being one of the factors of hair style, especially builds his or her own image and even becomes the nonverbal communication method which let others know him/herself. Therefore, women's needs and expectations of hair coloring are varied. To meet these need, it is urgent to figure out, most of all, the status of customers' awareness about hair coloring. Thus, in this study, research and analysis on hair coloring were made, focusing on the women utilizing 20 beauty shops in Changwon city. And the goal that this study set is to use as the study material for the hair coloring consulting in the beauty industry and the basic data for marketing in the industry job-sites. The conclusion by the three factors(age, job, monthly income) were as follows: 1. Dandyism was on the 1st order in the reason for coloring hair regardless of age, job, and monthly income. This seems to be speaking for the change of women's awareness of coloring hair. 2. The subject of making decision upon whether she was going to color her hair or not was herself regardless of age, job, and monthly income. Among the people belong to these three factors, brown was the color in overall preference. 3. More than half of those who belong to the three factors were not aware of the hair color, but their senses and interest in the color in vogue were high. 4. In terms of the hair coloring periodic time, many people had $2{\sim}3$months, but it was possible to know that they were interested in improving their images, considering the fact that most of the salaried people had their hair dyed within a month and the people in service job over a month. 5. The acquaintance around me had the strongest effect in collecting information from the people in those three factors and mass media was the next. The results of this study, in my opinion, would help the customers have beautiful and healthy hair and make images of their own by making the hair designers develope professional knowledges and skills on the hair coloring and improve the quality of beauty services.

  • This research aim concerns questioning how we can generate environments suggestive of nature fused with built environments through textiles. Through literature reviews and experiments with available the 3D imaging techniques of Holography, Lenticular and other new technologies. We also have researched towards finding the most effective method for 3D imaging techniques for textile applications. The advantage of the combining technique is to create the possibility of seeing a number of different floating 3D illusory images, depending on the viewing angle. This objective is to produce intriguing textile patterns and images in which the objects and colours change as viewpoints change. Experimental work was carried out in collaboration with professional textile researchers, scientists, artists and designers conducting research in this field.
