  • In the oral literature of the Mongolians such as folk-tales, legend, epics, poetry, songs, riddles etc., there are endless examples describing various stories about the origin of the costumes, ornaments and accessories, or the way how they were designed and changed with the times and how they correspond with relevant customs, public rituals and etiquette in general. In this paper we argue that every piece of the Mongolian national costumes and wear in general has specific meaning and symbolism, which is still the miraculous universe waiting to be unveiled properly. As for the Mongolians, the costumes and accessories mean the treasury of intellectual culture of their own as well as their daily necessities of life. There are still many undiscovered features of ancient national culture, apart from characteristics of various tribes and clans of the Mongolians.

  • During the era of Joseon Dynasty when the Confucian ideas were prevailing all over the manners of living, most women were usually living separated in the boudoirs, the isolated living quarters exclusively for women, where they used to do much troublesome needleworks for the traditional kerchiefs and embroideries for which they poured out their souls and hand skills. And therefore, nowadays, such works are deemed much valuable for either formative or artistic point of view, and their legitimate cultural designs are receiving much publicity from a number of mass communications as one of the national competitive powers. Thus, I, the researcher for the subject study, have completed 1-year researching lessons on the traditional kerchief and embroidery of Ms. Hyeon-Hee Kim, the Mater-hand, at Korea Traditional Handicrafts Institute of Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation, and then engaged myself in the creative works relevant to the subject by cultivating the power of understanding to such field, restoring the techniques of the traditional handicrafts, reconstructing them into the modern sensual descriptions, and also trying to apply various transformations and modifications to them.

A survey was conducted using the randomly selected 439 woman students in the twenties. The consciousness variable had three levels which were lean, medium, and obese shape for each whole, upper and lower body with self-consciousness. Also, satisfaction variable had three levels which were satisfying, average, and unsatisfying group. We analyzed the data using analysis of correlation, crosstabulation analysis, and analysis of variance including Duncan multiple test. The results were as follows: 1) There was the positive correlation between height, leg, and arm length, and each variable, and the negative correlation between back, hip, thigh, waist, lower leg, ankle, and upper arm, and each variable. Also, we could observe the pattern that the larger the head or the more the weight was, the lower the satisfaction of body was. 2) There were no strong correlation between breast and hand size and each variable. From the crossed classification, we could observe the trend that the smaller the breast was, the lower the satisfaction of body was. 3) There were the strong correlation between whole and upper body in consciousness degree and between whole and lower body in satisfaction. 4) The consciousness of the whole body was shown lean shape 23.4%. medium shape 49.2%, and obese shape 27.2%. For the satisfaction degree of the whole body, satisfaction was shown 6.8%, average 41.7% and unsatisfaction 51.4%, so the satisfaction group is very small. 5) From the analysis for the consciousness degree of the whole body, the preferred fashion materials were polyester and acetate in casual wear, linen, polyester, acryl, T/W, and polyurethan in formal wear, and cotton, nylon, TIC, and T/W in sports wear. • The purpose of this study was to examine the hiphop fashion which has the leading power of 1990's korean fashion flow. Hiphop Fashion represents individuals' unique characters and their culture. Baggy jeans with extra large shirts, various accessories, and a unique coordination of these items that is all their own represents the style that is hiphop. There are three major reasons why hiphop fashion has become so popular in the 1990's. First, the popularity of hiphop music whose singers directly influence the public. Second, the popularity of sports and sporting heros. These athletes' sporty Hiphop looks has amply shown that are also leaders of the hiphop fashion. Third, mass media like TV and many publications, defivitely helped to quickly spread hiphop all over the world. Music only TV stations like MTV and StarTV are good examples. Fashion always tells us much - as every anthropologist knows - and a thoughtful analysis of hiphop will reveal many interesting, and perhaps even surprising things about the men and women who wear it.
