The purpose of this study is to develop Family Life Education program for Marital education in Korea. In order to realize the about research purpose, this study is divided into three sections. First, nature conception and contents f Family Life Education, second, patterns and models for Family Life Education Program in USA and Korea, and Third, the future of Family Life Education. Family Life Education (FLE) is an education originated in reaction to changing social conditions, industrialization and urbanization, it deals with the perceived inadequacies of families to cope with these changes, thereby reduction social problems involved with, and improving family life. With and assumption that the studies about FLE have not been so active in Korea, the present thesis examines the FLE in Korea. The necessity of marital education in Korea Is based upon the theories of FLE in the United States of America. Also, it atempts to formulate a tentative plan for the promotion of a FLE program in Korea. The concept of FLE in Korea was manifested in the social educational law and life-span education. specified as 4th among ten presidential regulations. It is defined as " the Life-span developmental education to enhance the quality of human life, to solve family problems, to develop an individual's potentiality and to strengthen the family relations. of the FLE programs, the marital education is considered one of the furcial wubjects becaused it is the core of the family life. With this premise, FLE tries to wupport the healthy mrital relations. subsequently helping to explore the family potentiality and to strengthen family ties. The objects of the FLE program are unmarried, pre-marred , and married persons. For the married persons, the FLE program should be arranged in accordance with their rrital status divided by the family life cycle so that they may prevent possible family problems at each stage of the family life. Also, to prevent the problems occurred in the course of carrying out family functions, the FLE program should be provided with on the basis of a family unit, thereby improving the quality of the family functions. The FLE is to hep persons begin smoothly the adaption process for a successful marital relations. For the FLE to be practised more widely systematically, research on family education--that is basic study, research and production and evaluation or the FLE to be carried out by research institute wholly responsible for it-- should be done first.
This study analyzes the effects of women's labour force participation and work-family reconciliation support on life-cycle fertility in Korea. The analysis is based on the longitudinal data from Korean Labour and Income Panel Study (KLIPS), which include the available information on life-cycle fertility and employment history. Employing a dynamic model of fertility, we estimated the life-cycle fertility of all the 15-49 years old women considered in this study by using a duration model. The major results of this study were as follows: First, women's labour force participation had a negative effect on the first birth, second birth, and all births (transition to births starting at different parities). Women's employment tended to lengthen the interval between births. Second, the availability of maternal leave had a positive effect on the first birth and all births for working women. Providing maternal leave to working women decreased the opportunity cost of childbearing and in turn, reduced the interbirth interval of women. However, the availability of parental leave had no significant effect on the births of working women. Third, the financial support for childcare had a positive effect on the first birth and all births. The economic support for childcare led to the reduction in the interbirth interval of women by increasing the probability of births. The use of a childcare center for the first child, which substitutes for the time that women needed to take care of their children, classified as time-intensive consumption goods, did not have any effect on the second birth. Fourth, the part-time employment of women had a positive effect on the second birth. A flexible working time schedule tended to decrease the interval between the first and the second births.
This study attempted to develop integrated family policy. For this purpose, a delphi survey was conducted twice among 15 professionals regarding the general contents of family policy, the goals and outcomes of president Roh's administration, the direction and plan of action for future family policy. The results of this study are as follows: Firstly, the main results of president Roh's administration were the creation of the Ministry of Women and Families, and the Healthy Families Law. Nevertheless, that government had no long-term vision or action programs. Secondly, there are two aspects of family policy which one is family members based and the other is family life cycle based. Accordingly the subjects of this study insist that family policy has to cover people's whole life, all families regardless of family structure, and has to integrate the plans and programs which have been served to individuals, for example, women, child, youth, and elderly. Thirdly, the orientations of future family policy are to be toward happiness, health, equality, coexistence, harmony, growth, generosity, diversity, self-control, and a sustainable society. So the concept of the integrated family policy has to cover all aspects of the family and the diversity of family life. Therefore, the service delivery system for family policy has to converge into the Healthy Family Center.
The purpose of this study is to measure family stress, family resources, copying strategies and the types of family system. For this purpose, the data were collected from healthy families(231) and clinic families(103). The main results are as follows: 1. Partially family stress, family resources, copying strategies was different by the demographic chrateristics(age, yeares of marriage, job, education, family life cycle family income religion and types of family system). 2. The type of family system was meaning factor for the family stress study. 3. In the case of healthy family, family stress was negative related with family resources, but healthy families used copying strategies variously. 4. In the case of clinic family, family stress was related with family resources and copying strateges strongly. 5. Classifying the types of family system, clinic families were classified extreme family(20.5%), midrange family(39.7%), balanced family(39.7%) and healthy family were classified extreme(13.1%), midrange family(25.8%) balanced family(61.1%).
This study investigate the balance between work and family of married working women. Data from 12 married working women who have child(ren) in age 7-9. was collected through in-depth interviews. The interviews was to examine their child-caring and the balance between work and family. The results show that the child(ren)'s age, the quality of after school program, the time to go to work and out of work, the type of work and labor flexibility were the important factors which affect the everyday child-caring. The respondents were unsatisfied with their balance between work and family, especially they felt that their leisure time is insufficient, but they seemed to accept this unbalance to some extent because they recognize the child-caring is more important than their balance between work and family in this life cycle. In conclusion the public support for the child-caring of dual-earner families with the child(ren) in lower grades has to be more extended because the support system and services for this life cycle are weak and insufficient compared with the support system for the child(ren) of the preschool ages. The currently public services for child-caring are still far from their needs to achieve the balance between work and family. So the whole child care support policies and systems are to be continued with more balanced perspectives and practical programs.
The purpose of this study is to investigate decision making styles task management of urban homemakers. This study focuses on the following aspects: 1) to find out which variables of background variables (ie. age of couple, education of couple, duration of marriage, income, family life cycle, number of children) have effect on decision making styles & task management of urban homemakers. 2) to find out the relationships between decision making styles and task management of urban homemakers. 3) to find out independent influcene of background variables on task management. major findings are as follows; First, it is general tendency that decision making styles were human oriented in urban homemakers. Importance & Urgency of the task, age of homemakers, education of homemakers, family life cycle were significant variables to have influcence on task oriented decision making styles. Importance & urgency of task were variables to have influences on human oriented decision making styl s. Second, the tendency of dealing with task at once is the highest in the task management, on the other hand, the tendency of dealing with task in the next session is the lowest. Income is a variable to influence on dealing with task in delegation to others, education of homemaker is a variable to influence on dealing with task in next session and importance & urgency of the task and the number of children were variables to influence on dealing with task immediately. Third, human oriented decision marking style was a variable to influence on dealing with task in delegation with task in delegation to others, in the next session, and in suspending/ in neglecting. Task oriented decision making style was a variable to influence on dealing with task immediately. Fourth, The urgency of task & income were variables to have direct influence on dealing with task in delegation with task in next session, and the urgency of the task, age & education of homemaker and family life cycle were varia les to direct influence on dealing with the task immediately. The urgency & importance of the task and age of homemaker were variables to have indirect on dealing with the task urgency of task & the number of children were variables to have indirect influence on dealing with the task in suspending/in neglecting through the medium of the human oriented decision making styles.
The purposes of this study were to examine the time use on weekdays and weekends by the time amount of each activities and compare time amounts of single parent with that of two parents family. So two methods were applied, one was secondary data analysis ,the other was deep-interview. The major findings of analysis of time use were as follows; 1) Mothers in single parent family used significantly less time amount of household labor and family care than them in two parent family 2) Fathers in single parent family used significantly more time amount of household labor but used significantly less time amounts of family care than them in two parent family And 3) Mothers in single parent family used significantly more time amounts of household labor and family care than fathers in single parent family. The results of deep-interview were as follows; roughly the amounts of household labor time, family care time, leisure time were of little quantity and absence of spouse, family size, family life cycle stage, economic condition, sex role identity, psychological factor maybe seemed important.
The purpose of this study was to probe the role recognition and role performance of husbands if family and to find out the variables which influence role recognition and role performance. the sample were selected from 503 husbands with children more than one living in Seoul The major findings were : 1) husbands` role recognition was relatively higher than role performance 2) Influential variables on the husbands` role recognition were the degree of home-orientedness communication-satisfaction and stage of life cycle. 3) Husbands` role performance was affected by communication-satisfaction degree of social support job satisfactions sex-role attitudes flexibility of job and jusbands` role recognition.
The purpose of this study is to investigate interpersonal support, tension in lifechanges & satisfaction. The selected sample is composed of 387 housewives in ChongJoo city. SAS pc program was used for the statistical analysis of the data. Data was analyzed by frequency, F-test, percentage, mean, Duncan's Multiple Range Test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Regression Analysis. Major findings as follows: 1)At wedding & funeral ceremony, kin networks of her parents & parents-in law side were variables to have influence on tension in life changes. And the number of social organization participated were a variable to have influence on the satisfaction. The age of couple, education of couple, duration of marriage, income, family lifecycle, the number of children, pattern of family were variables to influence tension in life changes, but were not variables to influence on the satisfaction. 2) At usual or wedding & funeral ceremony, kin networks of her parents side were variables to influence on instrumental & companionship support. And the number of friends was a variable to influence on companionship & informational support. The number of neighbors was a variable to influence on instrumental, companionship & informational support. The number of social organization participated was a variable to influence on companionship & emotional support. The age of couple, education of couple,income, duration of marriage, family life cycle, number of children, family size, family type were variables to influence on interpersonal support. 3)The relationship between tension and satisfaction in life changes was negative, and between instrumental support and satisfaction was negative also. But between companionship support and satisfaction was positive relationship and between tension of personal &social life and instrumental support was positive relationship. The relationship between tension of marriage life and companionship support was negative and between tension of family life and information support was negative relationships. The received companionship support was lower tension in life changes than not received it. But the received instrumental support was higher tension of personal & social life. The received companionship & informational support was higher satisfaction than not received them. But the received instrumental support was lower satisfaction than not received it. 4) Instrumental & companionship support, at usual kin network of her parents in taw side, at wedding & funeral ceremony kin network of her parents side,were variables to influence on tension in life changes. This study was carried out to explore the actual condition of family-friendly education of corporations and organizations supporting them for the purpose of activating the family-friendly certification system. The researches on the family-friendly education of corporations or related organizations have not become an object of attention, although the policies of family-friendly corporations have been the major concern of researchers who have conducted studies on the balancing between work and family. For the first time, this study investigated the family-friendly education programs of corporations and organizations supporting them. In addition to this work, interviews with laborers were performed to learn the actual participation in the education. The results showed that even corporations selected as excellent corporations by the government scarcely provided family-friendly educations and few laborers participated in them. The most educations provided by corporations were for the improvement of work ability or job training. Education for family concentrated only on the role of the father. The focus of educations supporting corporations was biased to the view of corporation or family, not balanced between the two. So it was suggested that researchers should pay attention to developing diverse education programs encompassing the whole stages of life cycle and the balancing between corporation and family.
