The purpose of this study was to identify general characteristics of social lifespaces in Korean family houses and to investigate the changes in the physical aspects and room functions of social lifespaces from Yi-dynasty to the present. The documentary research method was used for this study. Total of 972 out of 1,109 floor plans were analyzed for this study. The major findings were that changes of social lifespaces from Yi-dynasty to the present have been affected by natural and socio-cultural environments. The changes in the physical aspects of social lifespaces have shown from one or two social lifespaces to various single-purpose social lifespaces such as living room, family room, drawing room, and study room. In the past, the cnetral social lifespaces, Anbang(women's quarter) was larger than the living room/Daechung(wooden floor) but the living room in the present has become a central social lifespaces and larger. The room function of Anbang has changed from multi-purpose space to private space. Living room/Daechung had used as a pathway rather than a social lifespaces in the past but the living room has played many fuctional roles of family social activities in the present. The kitchen has also begun to use as a social lifespace. This is a new symptom that kitchen and dining spaces will be included as a new social lifespaces.
The purpose of this study is to investigate household Items and storage of kitchen and to suggest basic data for the desirable storage space. For the study, the samples were taken from 30 families living in 3-bedroom apartment. The personal interview and physical trace method were used to analyze the types and quantities of household Items and the storage conditions in kitchen furniture. The result was as follows : first, a total of 210 types of household Items were found in the kitchen, and the items ranged widely in purpose, from cooking and dining tools, hygiene products, and general household goods, which indicate that a variety activities in addition to cooking and eating are performed in the kitchen. Second, regarding the quantities of household Items, the majority of them were used for cooking and dining. Also the types and quantities of household Items varied according to the age of the child. Third, regarding storage of household Items in the kitchen by furniture type, the majority of the items were stored in the wall cabinets, base cabinets, and countertops and, as a storage method, simple 'placement' was most common. This suggests there is lack of three-dimensional storage in the kitchen. The findings show activities and storage in the kitchen space vary according to the age of the child, and household Items are stored by using several common methods.
The purpose of this study was to identify important selection attributes of customers for dining at family restaurants, and the determinant and predicting factors in customers' intentions of revisiting. A closed-ended questionnaire was used, and a systematic sampling approach was employed to survey a sample of customers in family restaurants. A total of 124 questionnaires were used for analysis among 300 distributed. Multivariate analysis(factor and regression analysis) was performed for 19 selection attributes measured on a five-point scale. A four-dimensional structure(harmonized decoration consistent service, valuable food, and attractive facility) was established from 19 selection attributes. The results of the study showed that three dimensions were significantly related with the customer's intention of revisiting. The dimension of consistent service had the greatest impact on customers' choice. It was clear that a family restaurant manager's emphasis on only one dimension to attract customers might not be as effective as applying a multi-dimensional strategy.
The objective of this study was to classify dining-out customers' behaviors at ski resorts based on their restaurant selection factors. Data were collected one-on-one via interview questionnaires of 178 customers at the ski resorts. The mean scores of important attributes (4.12) and satisfactory attributes (3.08) for the sport&leisure purpose group were analyzed. For the date&family trip purpose group, the important attributes (4.13) and satisfactory attributes (3.06) were evaluated, resulting in a significant difference between the two visiting-purpose groups by independent t-test (p<0.05). The recognized important attributes for the sport&leisure purpose group were food taste (4.54), hygiene (4.53), menu variety (4.22), menu price (4.15), and convenience (4.12), and the most recognizable satisfactory attributes were related to convenience (3.52), waiting time (3.95), and employee service (3.90). For the date&family trip purpose group, recognized important attributes were hygiene (4.83), food taste (4.67), menu price (4.40), convenient (4.33), menu variety (4.25), waiting time (4.21), and employee service (4.10), and marked satisfactory attributes were convenience (3.65), hygiene (3.31), atmosphere (3.25), employee service (3.23), waiting time (3.17), and food taste (3.00). These results suggest that restaurant selection attributes would be useful tools to restaurant managers in controlling the quality of foodservice and satisfying service requirements for dinning-out customers at ski resorts.
The purpose of this study is to find out the changes on the metropolitan condominium apartment unit plans based on the interior spaces related to women such An-bang (master bedroom), bathroom and attached spaces to the master bedroom, living room, diningroom, kitchen, utility room, and balcony. This study used the content analysis method and space syntax. Contents were limited to the floor plans with 3 rooms type and about 105 m2 in the Korean apartment encyclopedia. The unit plans of 2,278, built from October 1975 to January 2008, were analyzed and basically SPSS package 16.0 was employed. The results were as followed. 1) Living room was a core space and an increasing tendency. After 2001, the design trend of living room connected with kitchen and dining room, and dining room changed into one space combining with women's working space such kitchen. It meaned women's working activities became into family public activities as to depending open access. 2) Kitchen had a characteristics that was connected to utility room or back balcony, and the number of extra kitchen increased. Also, the size of DK decreased, but utility size little increased. It was showed the characteristic of this space was still for women. 3) An-bang had a little strong characteristics of married coulpe or women's personal space with bathroom or dress room/powder room. 4) In addition, the values of integration and control of living room and DK were highest. It meant these space were centered in unit plans. Next, the An-bang and dress room/powder room were high. Utility room or balcony's were next, and these were women's working space. Therefore, family's public space was most important, and married couple or women's personal and working space were later in planning.
This study is mainly intended to understand on the plan change of a public room in the apartment. This study is summarized as follows; First how the plane type of an apartment public room in the Capital region has been changed since 1970's in which industrialization has seriously started. Second according to the adjoining types how the features of an apartment plan would be divided into some categories. Third how usable area and public area in an apartment has been changed, The scop of this study is limited to the national standard houses of which usable area is 40-85m2(12.1-25.7pyong) built in Seoul and five new cities from 1970's to the half of 1990's The study is based on documents of 1378 samples extracted classified and analysed the plan in the chronical order. The analysis scope is confined to family's public rooms in an apartment such as a living room a dining room and a kitchen. In conclusion the public rooms such as a living room a dining room, and a kitchen become stereotyped with no specific difference in Korean apartments. Especially LDK type, L/DK type is the most general plan in Korean apartments, and the demand of that type is continuously increasing lately.

This study is analyzed comparison about the component ratio of dwelling space in the existing plan and residents dwelling needs. Also, it is analyzed the residence factors of area component change that residence satisfaction and importance according to the behavioral patterns of residents. The results are as follows. 1) Total area component ratio of the existing plan was 39.5:40.8:19.7% and dwelling consciousness one was 36.4:44.0:19.6%. Compared private space with public space, public area requested increase rather than private area. 2) In the 17, 19pyung-types dwellers are not happy about dining kitchen and utility room and types of 21, 23pyung-types are dissatisfied in room-2 and room-3, living room and dining kitchen are dissatisfied, too. In case of areas over 25pyung-types are dissatisfied in room-3 and room-4. 3) The behavioral patterns of apartment residents were classified six acts, and the most significant factors are appeared associated the acts of ceremony, relation of neighborship, and reception. The next significant factors are appeared associated the acts of family relation, about food life. So, it is concerned with the scale of public room.

The study was designed to investigate the relationship between dietary intakes and the obesity of 400 students who were the third grade in middle school in some areas of Seoul. The survey conducted from March 3 to 13 , 1993. The results obtained were summarized as follows :The average height and weight of surveyed subject were similar to that of standard ( the third grade students in middle school in Seoul, 1991) . Compared to the standard weight/height ratio, subject who belonged to overweight and obese group were 16.4% of male students, 16.1% of female students respectively. Female subjects showed higher ratio than male subjects in skipping meals, frequency of snack per day and concern about a dieting . In case of subjects who belonged to weight /height ratio was high, their speed of dining was fast and they have more concern about a dieting. Compared to the amount of the nutritional intakes of RDA, calcium intakes of male and female subjects were deficient. Especially iron intakes of female subjects were deficient. In takes of Calorie (p<0.01) protein(p<0.05) and fat 9p<0.01) of obese group were higher those of non-obese group. Obese group showed good appetite and overeating also . Correlation analysis showed that obese group seemed to the closely associated with relative body weight of parents, family income, frequency of meals per day, frequency of meals per day, frequency of snack per day, speed of dining and overeating .
The Purpose of this study was firstly to identify the living characteristics of apartment residents in relation to the behavioral patterns in the kitchen and utility space and secondly to present the basic material necessary for planning the kitchen and utility space of future desirable apartments with consideration for resident usage. The findings are summarized as follows : 1) Behavioral patterns in the kitchen and utility space were classified as personal life, family with harmony, talking with visitors, caring for children, cleaning, cooking, and keeping and connecting. 2) Behavioral patterns in He kitchen and utility space showed patterns on personal life, family with harmony, and talking with visitors and were used in the kitchen including the dining room. 3) As the required kitchen size and sink arrangement varied according to the kinds of furniture appliance, plan for the kitchen wok is very necessary.
