In this paper, we introduce a new approach for real-time 3D face pose discrimination based on active IR illumination from a monocular view of the camera. Under the IR illumination, the pupils appear bright. We develop algorithms for efficient and robust detection and tracking pupils in real time. Based on the geometric distortions of pupils under different face orientations, an eigen eye feature space is built based on training data that captures the relationship between 3D face orientation and the geometric features of the pupils. The 3D face pose for an input query image is subsequently classified using the eigen eye feature space. From the experiment, we obtained the range of results of discrimination from the subjects which close to the camera are from 94,67%, minimum from 100%, maximum.
In this paper, we propose a construction technique of two-level composite gradient map to automatically track a face with large movement in successive frames. Our method is composed of three main steps. First, the gradient maps with two-level resolution are generated for fast convergence of active contour. Second, to recognize the variations of face between successive frames and remove the neighbor background, weighted composite gradient map is generated by combining the composite gradient map and difference mask of previous and current frames. Third, to prevent active contour from converging local minima, the energy slope is generated by using closing operation. In addition, the fast closing operation is proposed to accelerate the processing time of closing operation. For performance evaluation, we compare our method with previous active contour model-based face tracking methods using a visual inspection, robustness test and processing time. Experimental results show that our method can effectively track the face with large movement and robustly converge to the optimal position even in frames with complicated background.

When tracking a human face in the moving pictures with complex background under irregular lighting conditions, the detected face can be larger including background or smaller including only a part of the face. Even background can be detected as a face area. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a new face tracking method using a block difference image and a Kalman estimator. The block difference image allows us to detect even a small motion of a human and the face area is selected using the skin color inside the detected motion area. If the pixels with skin color inside the detected motion area, the boundary of the area is represented by a code sequence using the 8-neighbor window and the head area is detected analysing this code. The pixels in the head area is segmented by colors and the region most similar with the skin color is considered as a face area. The detected face area is represented by a rectangle including the area and its four vertices are used as the states of the Kalman estimator to trace the motion of the face area. It is proved by the experiments that the proposed method increases the accuracy of face detection and reduces the fare detection time significantly.

This paper presents a multiple face detector based on a robust pupil detection technique. The pupil detector uses active illumination that exploits the retroreflectivity property of eyes to facilitate detection. The detection range of this method is appropriate for interactive desktop and kiosk applications. Once the location of the pupil candidates are computed, the candidates are filtered and grouped into pairs that correspond to faces using heuristic rules. To demonstrate the robustness of the face detection technique, a dual mode face tracker was developed, which is initialized with the most salient detected face. Recursive estimators are used to guarantee the stability of the process and combine the measurements from the multiface detector and a feature correlation tracker. The estimated position of the face is used to control a pantilt servo mechanism in realtime, that moves the camera to keep the tracked face always centered in the image.
With the prolific growth of cable, satellite digital broadcasting and internet related industry, new digital contents are being demanded. Today, more end-users seek participations in the media through interactivity. Visual tracking technology, based on image processing, is mainly used in fields of human face tracking, security inspection, and traffic monitoring applications. In this research, we describe the interactive modules such as information display, e1-commerce and other services along with on-screen visuals on the streaming media using object visual tracking technology. There are many applications that require robust and accurate eye tracking, such as human-computer interface(HCI). In this paper, a novel approach for eye tracking with a principal component analysis on rotated face. In the process of iris detection, intensity information is used. First, for select eye region using principal component analysis. Finally, for eye detection using eye region's intensity. The experimental results show good performance in detecting eye from FERET image include rotate face.
In this paper, we propose a robust face tracking algorithm. It is based on Condensation algorithm [7] and uses skin color and facial shape as the observation measure. It is hard to integrate color weight and shape weight. So we propose the method that has two separate trackers which uses skin color and facial shape as the observation measure respectively. One tracker tracks skin colored region and the other tracks facial shape. We used importance sampling technique to limit sampling region of two trackers. For skin-colored region tracker, we propose an adaptive color model to avoid the effect of illumination change. The proposed face tracker performs robustly in clutter background and in the illumination changes.
Real-Time object tracking has emerged as an important component in several application areas including machine vision. surveillance. Human-Computer Interaction. image-based control. and so on. And there has been developed various algorithms for a long time. But in many cases. they have showed limited results under uncontrolled situation such as illumination changes or cluttered background. In this paper. we present a novel. computationally efficient algorithm for tracking human face robustly under illumination changes and cluttered backgrounds. Previous algorithms usually defines color model as a 2D membership function in a color space without consideration for illumination changes. Our new algorithm developed here. however. constructs a 3D color model by analysing plenty of images acquired under various illumination conditions. The algorithm described is applied to a mobile head-eye robot and experimented under various uncontrolled environments. It can track an human face more than 100 frames per second excluding image acquisition time.

The eye-tracking [ET] is used on the human computer interaction [HCI] analysing the movement status as well as finding the gaze direction of the eye by tracking pupil's movement on a human face. Nowadays, the ET is widely used not only in market analysis by taking advantage of pupil tracking, but also in grasping intention, and there have been lots of researches on the ET. Although the vision based ET is known as convenient in application point of view, however, not robust in changing environment such as illumination, geometrical rotation, occlusion and scale changes. This paper proposes two steps in the ET, at first, face and eye regions are discriminated by Haar classifier on the face, and then the pupils from the discriminated eye regions are tracked by CAMShift as well as Template matching. We proved the usefulness of the proposed algorithm by lots of real experiments in changing environment such as illumination as well as rotation and scale changes.
It is well known that the tracking a certain person is a vary needed technic in the humanoid robot. In robot technic, we should consider three aspects that is cloth color matching, face recognition and motion analysis. Because a robot technic use some sensors, it is many different with the robot technic to track a certain person through the CCTV images. A system speed should be fast in CCTV images, hence we must have small calculation numbers. We need the statistical variable for color matching and we adapt the eigen-face for face recognition to speed up the system. In this situation, motion analysis have to added for the propose of the efficient detecting system. But, in many motion analysis systems, the speed and the recognition rate is low because the system operates on the all image area. In this paper, we use the moving energy only on the face area which is searched when the face recognition is processed, since the moving energy has low calculation numbers. When the proposed algorithm has been compared with Girondel, V. et al's method for experiment, we obtained same recognition rate as Girondel, V., the speed of the proposed algorithm was the more faster. When the LDA has been used, the speed was same and the recognition rate was better than Girondel, V.'s method, consequently the proposed algorithm is more efficient for tracking a certain person.
