The experimental group was organised with thirty female elementary school students selected from a school in a small city and two schools in a town at Jeju special selfgoverning province. The students were encouraged to participate in a variety of scientific experiences and inquiry activities for ten months. The control group consisted of another thirty girl students chosen from the same schools. The pre-test and post-test on science-related attitudes were administered to both the experimental and control groups. The result of this study shows that meaningful changes have been observed in science-related attitudes of the experimental group, whereas the control group reveals no meaningful changes. Science-related attitudes have been analyzed in three categories such as cognition, interests, scientific attitude. The experimental group shows meaningful changes in all of the three categories, while the control group shows no change in any category. When the female students from small city and those from the town were separated, the result shows that the latter shows more positive changes in science-related attitudes through science club activities than the former.

  • As three sides of Korea are surrounded by the sea and it is geographically located at an intersect point for continental and maritime climate, the climate crisis and global warming factors that lead to large-scale natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, and tsunami as well as disasters and damage to humans are increasing due to rapid urbanization and industrialization. Therefore, this study measured the ability of people to cope with disaster in students studying emergency rescue who will play a central role in safety and casualty control in disaster areas in order to figure out the factors that will influence their overall ability. As a result, the following things were discovered: Those who had the experience of listening to information on how to cope in a disaster scored significantly higher in disaster coping scores than those who did not. In comparison with subjects who responded that they were not satisfied with their emergency rescue training at school, those who responded that they were satisfied with their education scored significantly higher in their disaster coping scores. In comparison with subjects who responded negatively to the questions on experience in emergency rescue training as an extracurricular program, those who responded affirmatively to the questions were evaluated as significantly higher in their disaster coping scores. This study suggests that specific strategies can be taken and are needed to improve the ability to cope with disasters in students who are studying emergency rescue.

  • This study was a descriptive investigation of the effects of nursing students' major satisfaction and professor-student interaction on their adjustment to university life. For this investigation, data were collected from July 22 to August 15, 2017. The collection was made through a questionnaire survey of nursing students in their 1st or 2nd year at one of eight colleges or universities located in B Metropolitan City, U Metropolitan City and G City. Participants were informed of the purpose of the study and agreed to participate in it. Of all the questionnaire sheets collected after the survey, those filled in by 205 participants were finally used for analysis here, with those by others excluded because they were considered to have been inappropriately filled out. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. Nursing students surveyed in the study were significantly different from one another with respect to adjustment to university life depending on grade, health status, interpersonal relationships, desired career, academic achievement and family life level. Moreover, nursing students who had higher satisfaction with their major and more interactions with their professors were likely to adjust better to university life. In addition, regression analysis revealed that the nursing students' satisfaction with their major had the biggest effect on their adjustment to university life. Taken together, the results suggest that nursing students in their 1st or 2nd year of school should continue to be provided with curricular or extracurricular programs designed to improve their major satisfaction and that they should be given opportunities for communication with or counseling from their advisors or other nursing professors from the onset of university life.

  • This research aims to explore the effect of participation in 'peer tutoring(learning tutoring)' program designed for low achiever students, and to provide an explanation for the improvement of related extracurricular activity. For this, firstly, the study analyzed differences between goal attainment group and non-attainment group in self-directed learning readiness, learning presence and learning transfer. Secondly, the relationships between three variables were analyzed. Based on an online survey of 154 low achievers participating in learning tutoring, two research questions were examined using t-test, correlation and hierarchical multiple regression analyses. Our findings show that firstly, the academic achievement after participating in tutoring improved more than before. Secondly, there were differences in three variables by gender and grades. Also, there were differences in three variables between two groups. Finally, there was a high positive correlation between three variables, and 71% of learning transfer was explained by self-directed learning readiness and learning presence. Based on these findings, the practical implications are discussed regarding the improvement of tutoring program.

  • Group counseling in elementary school is very unique in many respects due to the fact that is targets young people from the aspects of realizing educational goals and solving problems. Because it targets children who are undergoing development process, group counseling of the preventive nature is required even more. The reality, however, is that the group counseling in elementary school is carried out during the "left-over" time such as the time allocated for extracurricular activities. Worse yet, if there the homeroom teachers are not willing, then even this is not carried out. Moreover, method used for group counseling is simply re-configuration or modification of the consultation method used for adults regardless of the fact that it is necessary to develop diverse group counseling programs due to the characteristics of the children. To improve these problems, this research paper suggests the basic frame that this type of program needs, and held extensive discussions with sixteen teachers who were pursuing their master's degree for holding group counseling in elementary schools. As a result, consensus was developed that research of demand, contents configuration, organization, operation and evaluation are crucial for developing group counseling program in elementary school. And the results are to be used as important back-up material for the development of new program by holding detailed discussions on the above mentioned five topics. Furthermore, this paper presents the direction for the development of program going forth by evaluating the group counseling program in elementary school conducted in Korea to this day, and mentions the challenges that lie ahead.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the necessity of safety awareness and education regarding the use of laboratories, and to foster safety awareness during intramural and extracurricular activities in high schools. The study conducted a questionnaire to 290 eleventh grade students of three high schools located in Seoul. The collected data were statistically analyzed. The result illustrates that 64.8% of students have experienced safety education during a regular class, 6.6% have experienced accidents, and 68.0% have experienced safety education during field activities. The result concludes that there is a lack of prior safety education as well as overall low awareness on the necessity of safety education. In particular, students who have experienced safety education recognizes the necessity of emergency education regarding laboratory accident more than those who did not receive such education. Thus, a systematic management of laboratory safety education and multilateral management measures for students' safety are required. There is a relatively high correlation between safety intention of R&D and Education factors and Community and Laboratory Safety Education. As much as there is a high safety demand regarding the laboratory instruments and experiment, it shows high intention of safety lab operation as well as count measurement of lab accident. This study recommends developing a laboratory safety education program and management methods appropriate for high school students.
