Objectives: This study aimed to validate the effectiveness of a recently proposed difficulty index for removal of impacted mandibular third molars based on extraction time and suggest a modified difficulty index including the presence of pathologic conditions associated with third molars. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 65 male patients younger than 25 years with third molars. Extraction time was calculated from start of the incision to the last suture. The difficulty scores for third molars were based on spatial relationship (1-5 points), depth (1-4 points), and ramus relationship (1-3 points) using cone-beam computed tomography. The difficulty index was defined as follows: I (3-4 points), II (5-7 points), III (8-10 points), and IV (11-12 points). The modified difficulty score was calculated by adding one point to the difficulty score if the third molar was associated with a pathologic condition. Two modified difficulty indices, based on the presence of pathologic conditions, were as follows: the half-level up difficulty index (HDI) and the one-level up difficulty index (ODI) from the recently proposed difficulty index. Results: The correlations between extraction time and difficulty index and or modified difficulty indices were significant (P<0.001). The correlation coefficient between extraction time and difficulty index was 0.584. The correlation coefficients between extraction time and HDI and ODI were 0.728 and 0.764, respectively. Conclusion: Extraction time of impacted third molars exhibited a moderate correlation with difficulty index and was strongly correlated with the modified indices. Considering the clinical implications, the difficulty index of surgical extraction should take into consideration the pathologic conditions associated with third molars.
Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to investigate the effects of the processing parameters on supercritical $CO_2\;(SC-CO_2)$. extraction of total carotenoids and ${\beta}$-cyptoxanthin from Citrus unshiu press cake. The parameters tested were $SC-CO_2$ pressure, dynamic extraction time, and concentration of ethanol added as the modifier to $CO_2$. Experimental data correlated well with the processing parameters (p<0.01), and there was a high statistically significant multiple regression relationship for the extraction of total carotenoids and ${\beta}-cyrptoxanthin$ ($R^2=0.9789$ and 0.9796, respectively). The optimal processing conditions were extraction pressure 33.4 and 37.3 MPa, extraction time 39.6 and 41.0 min, ethanol concentration 18.6 and 17.0% for total carotenoids and ${\beta}-cryptozanthin$, respectively. Maximum extraction yields predicted by RSM were 61.1 and 95.8% ppm, respectively. The extraction yield of total carotenoids increased asymptotically with the increase of the extraction pressure. It increased in proportion to extraction time and concentration of the cosolvent. The extraction yield of ${\beta}-cryptoxanthin$ increased with extraction pressure, extraction time, and concentration of the cosolvent. The extraction time and the concentration of the cosolvent, and the interaction between extraction time and the concentration of the cosolvent significantly affected the extraction yields of carotenoids from C. unshiu press cake.
The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum conditions of solvent extraction type and solvent concentration (60, 70, 80%, v/v), extraction time (30, 80, 130 mins) and extraction temperature (10, 15, $20^{\circ}C$) in order to increase the antioxidant activity of the chia seed. The total polyphenol content and DPPH radical scavenging activity was measured by using response surface methodology (RSM) to establish the optimal conditions. Using ethanol and methanol extractions at extraction concentrations of 60%, and time and temperature of 130 mins and $20^{\circ}C$, the maximum total polyphenol content was 871.00 mg% ($R^2=0.9507$) and 557.70 mg% ($R^2=0.9784$) for ethanol and methanol extraction respectively. Using the same extraction conditions, the maximum level of DPPH radical scavenging activity was 72.14% ($R^2=0.9675$) and 52.79% ($R^2=0.9524$) for ethanol and methanol extraction respectively. The results indicate that ethanol extracts showed a higher antioxidant activity than methanol extracts. The ethanol extraction conditions of response surface analysis (RSA) were affected more by ethanol concentration than by extraction time or temperature. In contrast, the methanol extraction conditions of response surface analysis (RSA) were affected more by extraction time. Based on the RSM, the optimum ethanol extraction conditions were the following: extraction concentration, 63%: time, 100 mins: and temperature, $18^{\circ}C$. The optimum methanol extraction conditions were the following: extraction concentration, 65%; time, 120 mins; and temperature, $16^{\circ}C$.
This thesis is to analyze the ingredients of five-fruit tea depending on extraction time as a basic experiment for quality improvement and industrialization of traditional Korean beverage. According to extraction time, the acidity of the tea is 2.4% at 30 minutes, 2.3% at 50 minutes and 1.7% at 70 minutes, and soluble solid is 0.22 g, 0.31 g and 0.41 g. The pH of five-fruit tea, which is 4.70, 4.85 and 4.98 at each time, and total sugar is 54.01 m9, 108.82 m9 and 142.92 mg as extraction time increases. The total amount of free sugars is 1.14 mg, 1.36 mg and 2.17 mg, and glucose, surcose and fructose which are 98.2%, 92.6% and 92.6% of the whole percentage occupy the most part of free sugars. The total free amino acids content increases to 84.94 mg, 99.67 mg and 120.40 mg. The five kinds of amino acids like serine, glutamic acid, threonine, proline and alanine amount to 94.5%, 93.6% and 94.7% at all. she variation in the percentage of free amino acids content in accordance with extraction time is as follows : threonine, extracted for 50 minutes, is reduced considerably and glutamic acid decreases gradually as extraction time increases. When proline is extracted for 50 minutes, it's rate of increase Is most high.
The study was performed to obtain the optimum extraction conditions for crocin from gardenia fructus. Generally crocin is unstable on heat, light, acid and base solution. The extraction efficiency of crocin from gardenia depended upon the extraction time, extraction temperature, pH in the extraction bath and the optimum conditions of crocin extraction were determined as 60 minutes of extraction time, 4$0^{\circ}C$ of extraction temperature, pH 7 of extraction bath. The molar extinction coefficient of crocin was 12,515 and the color yield of purified crocin was about six times higher than that of non-purified crocin. The heat-stability at extraction temperature and lightstability in irradiation with xenon lamp for one hour of the purified crocin were higher than those of non-purified crocin. Intensity of &{\lambda}_{max}&of crocin was decreased by irradiation for one hour but UV-Vis. spectra of crocin was not changed. The colors of purified and non-purified crocin dissolved wit methanol was evaluated by means of CIE L* a* b* system.
Response surface methodology was employed to optimize extraction conditions for finding the maximal functional properties of Pleurotus eryngii. Based on central composite design, the study plan was established with variations of microwave power (30-150 W), ethanol concentration (0-99.9%), and extraction time (1-9 min). Regression analysis was applied to obtain a mathematical model. A maximal yield of 47.86% was obtained when the microwave power, ethanol concentration, and extraction time were set at 122.7 W, 42.14%, and 8.3 min, respectively. A maximized electron donating ability of 93.32% was found under the following conditions: a microwave power of 144.19 W, an ethanol concentration of 49.52%, and an extraction time of 6.7 min. When the microwave power, ethanol concentration, and extraction time were set at 125.43 W, 40.54%, and 8.1 min, respectively, the maximum nitrite-scavenging ability was 80.47%. The optimum ranges of the extraction conditions, superimposed by the response surface methodology, could predicate a microwave power of 110-150 W, ethanol concentration of 0-45%, and extraction time of 7-9 min.
A central composite design was used to optimize extraction of propolis materials using ethanol. The independent variables in extraction experiments were ethanol concentration (50, 60, 70, 80, 90%, v/v) and extraction time (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 h). Higher ethanol concentration and shorter extraction time increased total polyphenol content, but total polyphenol concentration began to decrease when ethanol concentration was higher than 80% (v/v). Ethanol concentration was more important than extraction time in optimization of total polyphenol content in propolis extracts. Electron-donating ability increased with ethanol concentration and shorter extraction time, with ethanol concentration being of greater significance. Antioxidant ability in extracts was optimal at an ethanol concentration of 65 - 75% and with an extraction time of 2.2 - 3.6 h. Nitrite-scavenging ability was increased with use of higher ethanol concentration and shorter extraction time. Total flavonoid content was maximized with an ethanol concentration of 68 - 82% and an extraction time of 2.4 - 3.7 h. Total flavonoid content was affected by both ethanol concentration and extraction time. By superimposition of contour plots, an ethanol concentration of 72 - 82% and an extraction time of 2.2 - 3.3 h were optimal for preparation of propolis extracts.

This study compared Ojeok-san (Wuji-san in Chinese) decoctions produced using different extraction methods for variable times. Decoctions were extracted in pressurized or non-pressurized conditions for 60, 120, and 180 mins. We investigated the Ojeok-san extract yield, the total soluble solid content, the hydrogen ion concentration (pH), and the reference compound content. The extract yield and the total soluble solid content were higher in decoctions produced by non-pressurized extraction; both were proportional to the extraction time. The pH tended to decrease as the extraction time was increased in decoctions produced using both methods. After 60 and 180 mins, the levels of albiflorin, paeoniflorin, nodakenin, naringin, and neohesperidin were significantly higher in decoctions extracted using the non-pressurized method compared with those extracted using the pressurized method. After 120 mins, only cinnamaldehyde was extracted in a greater amount in pressurized decoctions compared with non-pressurized decoctions. The levels of paeoniflorin, ferulic acid, nodakenin, naringin, hesperidin, neohesperidin, and glycyrrhizin increased with time in non-pressurized decoctions. This study showed that the use of pressurized and non-pressurized extraction methods for different times affected the composition of Ojeoksan (Wuji-san) decoctions.

In this paper, a new time-domain parameter extraction method for speech recognition is proposed. The suggested emthod is based on the fact that the local peak-to-peak interval, i.e., the interval between maxima and minima of speech waveform is closely related to the frequency component of the speech signal. The parameterization is achieved by a sort of filter bank technique in the time domain. To test the proposed parameter extraction emthod, an isolated word recognizer based on Vector Quantization and Hidden Markov Model was constructed. As a test material, 22 words spoken by ten males were used and the recognition rate of 92.9% was obtained. This result leads to the conclusion that the new parameter extraction method can be used for speech recognition system. Since the proposed method is processed in the time domain, the real-time parameter extraction can be implemented in the class of personal computer equipped onlu with an A/D converter without any DSP board.
This study was undertaken in order to compare reflux extraction(RE) and microwave-assisted extraction(MAE) in extraction efficiency and establish optimum microwave extraction conditions in obtaining Ligularia fischeri extracts. A considerable reduction in extraction time was accomplished by MAE. When 70% methanol 50% methanol 70% ethanol, or 50% ethanol was used, MAE extract contained equal levels of soluble solid and total polyphenol as obtained by RE. The optimum microwave-assisted extraction conditions for Ligularia fischeri were achieved by 120∼150 watts of microwave energy and 4∼8 minutes of extraction time. No significant changes were found in antioxidant activity with DPPH scavenging method over the variation of microwave energy or extraction time. The use of diluted methanol or ethanol improved soluble solid content(30%), total polyphenol content(2.7%) and antioxidant activity(68%).
