A Conceptual Schema Integration through Extraction of Common Similar Subschemas : An Case Study of Multidatabase System (공통 유사 서브스키마 추출을 통한 개념적 스키마 통합 : 다중 데이터베이스 시스템 적용사례)

  • Recently, most of global enterprises have geographically distributed organization, thus have distributed information systems which have distributed database systems. So, it is difficult for these systems to provide common views for the application programs of end users. One of solutions to solve these difficulties is an MDBS(Multidatabase System) A method to effectively implement MDBS is a schema integration. This paper proposes a methodology for a schema integration through extraction of common similar subschemas Our methodology is consisted of 5 phases : affinity analysis, extraction of similar subschemas, decision of imtegration order, resolution of semantic conflict, and schema integration. To verify the usability of our methodology, a case study is implemented with an object of MDBS. At a result, our approach can effectively be applied to the extraction of common similar subschemas and schema integration.

Development of Alignment Information Extraction System on Highway by Terrestrial Laser Scanning Technique (지상 레이저 스캐닝 기법에 의한 도로선형정보 추출 시스템 개발)

  • A laser scanning technique has been attracting much attention as a new technology to acquire location information. This technique might be applicable to a wide range of areas, most notably in geomatics, due to its high accuracy of location and automation of high-density data acquisition. A alignment information extraction system on highway has been developed in this study by utilizing the advantages of the laser scanning technique. The system can accurately interpret the alignment information of highway and can be applied to actual works. To develop the alignment information extraction system on highway, an algorithm that can automatically separate a horizontal alignment into a straight line, a transition curve, and a circular curve was developed. It can increase its efficiency compared to the conventional methods. In addition, an algorithm that can automatically extract design elements of horizontal and vertical alignments of highway was developed and applied to an object highway. This yielded higher practicality with more accurate values compared to those from previous studies on the extraction of design elements of highway alignment. Furthermore, the extracted design elements were used to perform a virtual driving simulation on the object highway. Through this, data were provided for a visual judgment for judging visually whether the topography and structures were harmonized in a three-dimensional manner or not. The study also presents data that can serve as a basis to determine highway surface freezing sections and to analyze three-dimensional sight distance models. Through the establishment of a systematic database for diverse data on highway and the development of web-based operating programs, an efficient highway maintenance can be ensured and also they can provide important information to be used when estimating a highway safety in the future.

Enhancement of Anticancer Activities from Lithospermum erythrorhizon Extracts by Ultra High Pressure Process (초고압 가공 공정을 통한 지치 추출물의 항암 활성 증진)

  • This study was performed to enhance anticancer activities of Lithospermum erythrorhizon by eluting high amount of shikonin through ultra high pressure process. Extraction yield was increased up to 5~10% by ultra high pressure process, compare to the normal extraction processes such as water solvent extraction, 70% ethyl alcohol solvent extraction. The cytotoxicity of the extracts ($1.0{\mu}g/m{\ell}$) from ultra high pressure process was showed the lowest cytotoxicity 13.4% for human lung cell (HEL299). The anticancer activities showed 80~85% by adding $1.0{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ of the extracts from ultra high pressure process in several cancer cell lines such as AGS, Hep3B, MCF-7 and HeLa cells. Among them, MCF-7 cell of the endocrine system was highest inhibited than other cells. The anticancer activities of the extracts from ultra high pressure extraction process showed 10~15%, which was higher than the extracts from normal extraction processes. From HPLC analysis of the extracts, the contents of shikonin in the extracts from ultra high pressure process was 11.42% (w/w), which was 20% higher than others. This results indicate that ultra high pressure process could increase the extraction yield of shikonin and other contents, which resulted in higher anticancer activities.

Safety Profile Assessment and Identification of Volatile Compounds of Krill Eupausia superba Oil and Residues Using Different Extraction Methods

  • In this study, Krill Eupausia superba oil was extracted using different solvents and supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-$CO_2$). During SC-$CO_2$ extraction, the pressure was set at 40 MPa and temperatures ranged from $40^{\circ}C$ to $55^{\circ}C$. We examined the differences in volatile compounds and safety profiles among extraction methods. Volatile compounds were determined using the thermal desorption system integrated with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Heavy metal content was analyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). According to our results 10 volatile compounds were identified in krill sample. After SC-$CO_2$ extraction of oil, the concentrations of volatile compounds decreased, but increased after solvent extraction. In krill, heavy metal concentrations remained within the permissible limit. Moreover, Zn and Fe which have health benefits were detected at high concentrations. During a 90 days storage period at different temperatures, microbial activity was found to be lowest in SC-$CO_2$ extracted residues. Thus, the quality of krill oil and the residues obtained using SC-$CO_2$ extraction was higher and the oil was safer than those obtained using conventional solvent extraction. These results can be applied to the food industry to maintain high quality krill products.

Optimum Conditions of Lysozyme Extraction Using Reversed Micelles (역미셀을 이용한 Lysozyme 추출 최적조건)

  • Proteins were extracted from an aqueous phase with reversed micelles. The effect of pH, and salt concentration on the solubilization of lysozyme in AOT/isooctane solution was studied to explore the potential for employing this solvent system in the large-scale recovery and concentration of proteins using liquid extraction. For pH values below the isoelectric point, pl of the protein, solubilization was high, probably owing to strong electrostatic interactions between the positively charged proteins and the anionic surfactant heads forming the inner micelle wall. At low ionic strength complete solubilization of the protein was observed. A pH higher than the pl of lysozyme and a salt concentration lower than that of the water pool were required for the recovery aqueous phase to ensure the back extraction of lysozyme from the AOT reversed micelles.

  • The Web is evolving toward the Semantic Web. Ontologies are considered as a crucial component of the Semantic Web since it is the backbone of knowledge representation for this Web. However, most of these ontologies are still built manually. Manual building of an ontology is time-consuming activity which requires many resources. Consequently, the need for automatic ontology extraction tools has been increased for the last decade, and many tools have been developed for this purpose. Yet, there is no comprehensive framework for evaluating such tools. In this paper, we proposed a set of criteria for evaluating ontology extraction tools and carried out an experiment on four popular ontology extraction tools (i.e., OntoLT, Text-To-Onto, TERMINAE, and OntoBuilder) using our proposed evaluation framework. The proposed framework can be applied as a useful benchmark when developers want to develop ontology extraction tools.

Shadow Extraction of Urban Area using Building Edge Buffer in Quickbird Image (건물 에지 버퍼를 이용한 Quickbird 영상의 도심지 그림자 추출)

  • High resolution satellite images have been used for building and road system analysis, landscape analysis, and ecological assessment for several years. However, in high resolution satellite images, shadows are necessarily cast by manmade objects such as buildings and over-pass bridges. This paper develops the shadow extraction procedures in urban area including various land-use classes, and the extracted shadow areas are evaluated by a manually digitized shadow map. For the shadow extraction, the Canny edge operator and the dilation filter are applied to make building edge buffer area. Also, the object-based segmentation was performed using Gram-Schmitt fusion image, and spectral and spatial parameters are calculated from the segmentation results. Finally, we proposed appropriate parameters and extraction rules for the shadow extraction. The accuracy of the shadow extraction results from the various assessment indices is 80% to 90%.

Comparison of Volatile Compounds in Plant Parts of Angelica gigas Nakai by Extracting Methods (추출법에 따른 참당귀의 부위별 정유성분 비교)

  • Volatile flavor compounds from the shoot and root of Angelica gigas Nakai were extracted by HE (Hydrodistillation extraction), SDE (Simultaneous steam distillation & extraction), and SFE (Supercritical fluid extraction system), and analyzed by GC-MS. The amount and the number of chemical components in essential oils from shoot and root by SFE was the higher than those by other extraction methods. Respectively, thirty one constituents were identified from the essential oil of the shoot and root by HE, twenty seven and twenty three constituents were identified from the essential oil of shoot and root by SDE, thirty one and forty five constituents were identified from the essential oil of shoot and root by SFE. The result showed large differences in extraction methods and in plant parts of Angelica gigas Nakai. Also, the bioactive compounds in root part was identified as nodakenin and decursinol (11.95% and 8.42%, respectively) by SFE. These results suggested that SFE was the best extraction method for the increasing of extraction yield, the determination of volatile components and the increasing of bioactive compounds in the shoot and root of Angelica gigas Nakai.

Compromised extraction sockets: a new classification and prevalence involving both soft and hard tissue loss

  • Purpose: Previous studies have solely focused on fresh extraction sockets, whereas in clinical settings, alveolar sockets are commonly associated with chronic inflammation. Because the extent of tissue destruction varies depending on the origin and the severity of inflammation, infected alveolar sockets may display various configurations of their remaining soft and hard tissues following tooth extraction. The aim of this study was to classify infected alveolar sockets and to provide the appropriate treatment approaches. Methods: A proposed classification of extraction sockets with chronic inflammation was developed based upon the morphology of the bone defect and soft tissue at the time of tooth extraction. The prevalence of each type of the suggested classification was determined retrospectively in a cohort of patients who underwent, between 2011 and 2015, immediate bone grafting procedures (ridge preservation/augmentation) after tooth extractions at Seoul National University Dental Hospital. Results: The extraction sockets were classified into 5 types: type I, type II, type III, type IV (A & B), and type V. In this system, the severity of bone and soft tissue breakdown increases from type I to type V, while the reconstruction potential and treatment predictability decrease according to the same sequence of socket types. The retrospective screening of the included extraction sites revealed that most of the sockets assigned to ridge preservation displayed features of type IV (86.87%). Conclusions: The present article classified different types of commonly observed infected sockets based on diverse levels of ridge destruction. Type IV sockets, featuring an advanced breakdown of alveolar bone, appear to be more frequent than the other socket types.

Query-based Answer Extraction using Korean Dependency Parsing (의존 구문 분석을 이용한 질의 기반 정답 추출)

  • In this paper, we study the performance improvement of the answer extraction in Question-Answering system by using sentence dependency parsing result. The Question-Answering (QA) system consists of query analysis, which is a method of analyzing the user's query, and answer extraction, which is a method to extract appropriate answers in the document. And various studies have been conducted on two methods. In order to improve the performance of answer extraction, it is necessary to accurately reflect the grammatical information of sentences. In Korean, because word order structure is free and omission of sentence components is frequent, dependency parsing is a good way to analyze Korean syntax. Therefore, in this study, we improved the performance of the answer extraction by adding the features generated by dependency parsing analysis to the inputs of the answer extraction model (Bidirectional LSTM-CRF). The process of generating the dependency graph embedding consists of the steps of generating the dependency graph from the dependency parsing result and learning the embedding of the graph. In this study, we compared the performance of the answer extraction model when inputting basic word features generated without the dependency parsing and the performance of the model when inputting the addition of the Eojeol tag feature and dependency graph embedding feature. Since dependency parsing is performed on a basic unit of an Eojeol, which is a component of sentences separated by a space, the tag information of the Eojeol can be obtained as a result of the dependency parsing. The Eojeol tag feature means the tag information of the Eojeol. The process of generating the dependency graph embedding consists of the steps of generating the dependency graph from the dependency parsing result and learning the embedding of the graph. From the dependency parsing result, a graph is generated from the Eojeol to the node, the dependency between the Eojeol to the edge, and the Eojeol tag to the node label. In this process, an undirected graph is generated or a directed graph is generated according to whether or not the dependency relation direction is considered. To obtain the embedding of the graph, we used Graph2Vec, which is a method of finding the embedding of the graph by the subgraphs constituting a graph. We can specify the maximum path length between nodes in the process of finding subgraphs of a graph. If the maximum path length between nodes is 1, graph embedding is generated only by direct dependency between Eojeol, and graph embedding is generated including indirect dependencies as the maximum path length between nodes becomes larger. In the experiment, the maximum path length between nodes is adjusted differently from 1 to 3 depending on whether direction of dependency is considered or not, and the performance of answer extraction is measured. Experimental results show that both Eojeol tag feature and dependency graph embedding feature improve the performance of answer extraction. In particular, considering the direction of the dependency relation and extracting the dependency graph generated with the maximum path length of 1 in the subgraph extraction process in Graph2Vec as the input of the model, the highest answer extraction performance was shown. As a result of these experiments, we concluded that it is better to take into account the direction of dependence and to consider only the direct connection rather than the indirect dependence between the words. The significance of this study is as follows. First, we improved the performance of answer extraction by adding features using dependency parsing results, taking into account the characteristics of Korean, which is free of word order structure and omission of sentence components. Second, we generated feature of dependency parsing result by learning - based graph embedding method without defining the pattern of dependency between Eojeol. Future research directions are as follows. In this study, the features generated as a result of the dependency parsing are applied only to the answer extraction model in order to grasp the meaning. However, in the future, if the performance is confirmed by applying the features to various natural language processing models such as sentiment analysis or name entity recognition, the validity of the features can be verified more accurately.
