  • In this article, we present a new notion called "extended metric spaces of type (φ, ρ)" as a generalization of extended b-metric spaces. Also, we establish a fixed point result of a Reich-type contraction on an extended metric space of type (φ, ρ). We also provide several examples to demonstrate the significance of the established results.

  • We study the hyperbolic cosine and sine laws in the extended hyperbolic space which contains hyperbolic space as a subset and is an analytic continuation of the hyperbolic space. And we also study the spherical cosine and sine laws in the extended de Sitter space which contains de Sitter space S$^n_1$ as a subset and is also an analytic continuation of de Sitter space. In fact, the extended hyperbolic space and extended de Sitter space are the same space only differ by -1 multiple in the metric. Hence these two extended spaces clearly show and apparently explain that why many corresponding formulas in hyperbolic and spherical space are very similar each other. From these extended trigonometry laws, we can give a coherent and geometrically simple explanation for the various relations between the lengths and angles of hyperbolic polygons, and relations on de Sitter polygons which lie on S$^2_1$, and tangent laws for various polyhedra.

  • Recently several authors have extended the Gamma function, Beta function, the hypergeometric function, and the confluent hypergeometric function by using their integral representations and provided many interesting properties of their extended functions. Here we aim at giving further extensions of the abovementioned extended functions and investigating various formulas for the further extended functions in a systematic manner. Moreover, our extension of the Beta function is shown to be applied to Statistics and also our extensions find some connections with other special functions and polynomials such as Laguerre polynomials, Macdonald and Whittaker functions.

  • In the setting of extended quasi b-metric spaces, we introduce a new concept called "extended A-contraction". We then use our concept to prove a common fixed point result for a pair of self mappings under a set of conditions. Also, we provide the concepts of extended B-contraction and extended R-contraction. We then establish a common fixed point under these new contractions. Our results generalize many existing result of fixed point in metric spaces. Furthermore, we give an example to illustrate and support our result.

  • This study was carried out to know the adaptability of barley flour, potato flour and white ash as extender and filler of urea-formaldehyde resin for plywood as a substitute material of wheat flour. The extenders and filler used at this study were extended by several groups of percentages. Shear strength, moisture contents, and specific gravities were compared among tested groups. The results obtained are summarized as follows. 1) Wet and dry shear strength of plywoods extended by 10% barley flour, 30% potato flour, and wheat flours were shown better results than non extended plywoods. 2) There was no significant difference between plywoods extended until 50% barley flours and non extended plywoods. 3) Shear strength of plywoods extended by 50% potato and 100% barley flours were shown worse result than non extended. 4) Dry and wet shear strength of plywoods extended by white ash were shown worst result. 5) The plywoods extended by potato flours were shown not only better shear strength, but also considered more profitable cost for extending.

  • Purpose: Extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase-producing bacteria-induced urinary tract infections are increasing and require more potent antibiotics such as carbapenems. We evaluated the clinical significance of extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase -urinary tract infection in children younger than 5 years to select proper antibiotics and determine prognostic factors. Differences were compared between age groups. Methods: We retrospectively studied 288 patients with their first febrile urinary tract infection when they were younger than 5 years. Patients were divided into extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase-positive and extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamasenegative urinary tract infection groups. Clinical characteristics and outcomes were compared between the groups; an infant group was separately analyzed (onset age younger than 3 months). Results: Extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase urinary tract infection occurred in 11 % patients who had more frequent previous hospitalization (P=0.02) and higher recurrence rate (P=0.045). During the antimicrobial susceptibility test, the extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase-positive urinary tract infection group showed resistance to third-generation cephalosporins; however, 98% patients responded clinically. In the infant group, extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase-positive urinary tract infection occurred in 13% patients and was associated with a longer pre-onset hospitalization history (P=0.002), higher C-reactive protein level (P=0.04), and higher recurrence rate (P=0.02) than that in the older group. Conclusion: Extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase urinary tract infection requires more attention because of its higher recurrence rate. The antimicrobial susceptibility test demonstrated resistance to third-generation cephalosporins, but they can be used as first-line empirical antibiotics because of their high clinical response rate. Aminoglycosides can be second-line antibiotics before starting carbapenems when third-generation cephalosporins do not show bactericidal effects for extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase urinary tract infection.

  • The emergence of extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase producing bacteria is causing very serious problems in Korea. Although there have been many reports about these bacteria Isolated from patients and clinical specimens, there is no report of extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase producing organisms isolated from natural environment in Korea. This study was conducted to investigate the biological characteristics and extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase types of eighteen strains of extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase producing Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli isolated from a slaughterhouse in Pusan in Korea during 2002 to 2004. Extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamases were identified by double-disk synergy test, conjugation, isoelectric focusing values and gene sequencing. Eight strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae and two strains of Eschericha coli were isolated kom pigs and transferred extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase genes to recipient Escherichia coli J53 (sodium azide resistant and ceftazidime senstive) strain by conjugation. The conjugants of extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase genes were alignments and translated to amino acids by BCM and NCBI blast. Eight conjugants of Klebsiella pneumonae were typed TEM-52, and two strains of Escherichia coli, SHV-12, but CMY-1 type were not detected in this study.

  • This article deals with the problem of fault detection of a spacecraft's actuators. The authors introduce an extended unknown input observer for nonlinear systems. This is an extended form of unknown input observers which are used for linear systems. Since faults are not available, those are considered as unknown inputs. Unknown input observers can estimate states without full information of inputs if some conditions are satisfied. The authors suggest a continuous-time extended UIO (eUIO) and prove the convergence of state estimation errors. Since the dynamic equation of a spacecraft is nonlinear, an extended UIO can be applied. Three eUIOs are designed to monitor three reaction wheels. The moving averages of each eUIO's residuals are selected for decision logic. The proposed method is verified by numerical simulations.

  • The growing popularity of mobile application has led to researchers and practitioners needing to understand users' mobile application download behaviors. Using large-scale transaction data obtained from a leading Korean telecommunications company, we empirically explore how application download rank, which appears to users when they decide to download a new application, affects their extended mobile application download. This terminology refers to downloading an additional application in the same category as those that they have already downloaded. We also consider IT characteristics, user characteristics, and application type that might be associated with the extended application download. The analysis generates the following result. Overall, a higher rank of a new application encourages the extended application download, but the linear relationship between the rank and the extended application download disappears when critical rank points are incorporated into the model. Further, no quadratic effect of rank is found in the extended application download. Based on the results, we suggest theoretical and managerial implications.

  • The objective of this paper is to estimate the concentration distribution in flow field inside the pipeline based on electrical impedance tomography. Special emphasis is given to the development of dynamic imaging technique for two-phase field undergoing a rapid transient change. Nonlinearity-compensation extended Kalman filter is employed to cope with unexpected measurement uncertainty. The nonlinearity-compensation extended Kalman filter compensates for the influence of measurement uncertainty and solves the instability of extended Kalman filter. Extensive computer simulations are carried out to show that nonlinearity-compensation extended Kalman filter has enhanced estimation performance especially in the unexpected measurement environment.
