  • The adsorption behavior of 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$-sodium gluconate-$H_2O$ system by measuring adsorp-tion isotherm DTA and IR sepctra. The adsorbed amount of sodium gluconate on 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$ is exceedingly larger than 3CaO.$SiO_2$ and portland cement. From the DAT experiment the formation of complex is observed by the characteristic exothermic peak of the complex at 45$0^{\circ}C$ It is now strong deduced that the chemical bonding between gluconate anion and 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$ should be coordinative due to the complex formation on the surface 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$ from the IR spectra of sod-ium gluconate only and 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$ -sodium gluconate-$H_2O$.

  • The thermal stability of the post cured epoxy-polysiloxane IPN structure was observed by using DSC and TGA. As the post curing time increased the glass transition temperature increased and the secondary exothermic peak disappeared. The thermally decomposing activation energy calculated by using Kissinger expression was 225.6 kJ/mol. The thermal stability of the grafted IPN of epoxy and silicon compound depends on the composing ratio and post curing conditions of time and temperature.

  • $(Ba_{0.6-x}Sr_{0.4}Ca_x)TiO_3$(x=0.10, 0.15, 0.20) ceramics were fabricated by the mixed-oxide method and their structural and dielectric properties were investigated with variation of composition ratio and sintering temperature. As a result of the differential thermal analysis(DTA), exothermic peak was observed at around $1020^{\circ}C$ due to the formation of the polycrystalline perovskite phase. BSCT(50/40/10) specimen sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$ showed the highest average grain size(18.25$[{\mu}m]$). Curie temperature and dielectric constant at room temperature decreased with increasing amount of Ca. BSCT(50/40/10) specimen sintered at $1450^{\circ}C$ showed a good dielectric constant, K, (=4324) and dielectric loss, $tan{\delta}$, (=0.972%) properties at 1[KHz].

Thermal Stability of Lithiated Silicon Anodes with Electrolyte

  • The thermal behavior of lithiated Si anodes has been investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). In particular, the effect of Si particle size on the thermal stability of a fully lithiated Si electrode was investigated. For DSC measurements, a lithiated Si anode was heated in a hermetically sealed high-pressure pan with a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) binder and a 1 M $LiPF_6$ solution in an ethylene carbonate (EC)-diethyl carbonate (DEC) mixture. The thermal evolution around $140^{\circ}C$ increases with lithiation and with decreasing particle size; this phenomenon is attributed to the thermal decomposition of the solid electrolyte interface (SEI) film. Exothermic peaks, following a broad peak at around $140^{\circ}C$, shift to a lower temperature with a decrease in particle size, indicating that the thermal stability of the lithiated Si electrode strongly depends on the Si particle size.

  • $Pb(Zr_{0.3},Ti_{0.7})O_3$, $Pb(Zr_{0.3},Ti_{0.3})O_3$ powders were prepared by the sol-gel method and PZT heterolayered thick films were fabricated by the screen-printing method. The structural properties as a faction of the composition ration were studied. As a result of the differential thermal analysis (DTA), exothermic peak was observed at around $864^{\circ}C$ dne to the formation of the polycrystalline perovskite phase. The PZT heterolayered thick film sintered at $1050^{\circ}C$ for 10min showed the average grain size $1{\sim}1.4{\mu}m$. The average thickness of PZT heterolayered thick films, obained by $3{\sim}6times$ of screen-printing, was approximately $60{\sim}110{\mu}m$.

  • The perovskite-type compounds $La_{1-x}Ca_xCoO_3$ were synthesized, their thermochemical properties and the gaseous sensitivity were investigated in ethanol vapor. The maximum response for detecting gas corresponded with the exothermic peak of DTA experiment. In any case the substituent was increased, the responsive ratio for detecting gas was grown upon. However, the needed time for response was later, and the operating temperature was elevated. The mechanism of this electrical conductivity was explained by the oxygen ionic diffusion through oxygen vacancy produced by the substituent.

  • (Ba,Sr,Ca)$TiO_3$ powders, which were prepared by sol-gel method using a solution of Ba-acetate, Sr-acetate and Ca-acetate and Ti iso-propoxide, were mixed with organic vehicle and the BSCT thick films were fabricated by the screen-printing techniques on high purity alumina substrates. The structural and dielectric properties were investigated for various $Dy_2O_3$ doping contents. As a result of thermal analysis, the exothermic peak was observed at around $670^{\circ}C$ due to the formation of the polycrystalline perovskite phase. All BSCT thick films, sintered at $1420^{\circ}C$ for 2h, showed the typical XRD patterns of perovskite polycrystalline structure and no pyrochlore phase was observed. The average grain size of the specimens decreased with.

  • Silk fibroin model peptide, alanine pentamer was synthesized through solid-phase method and modified with poly(ethylene glycol). Nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy showed the conformation of alanine pentamer, $\beta$-sheet structure and random coil conformation were not changed with PEGylation. Differential scanning calorimetry showed that relatively strong exothermic peak around $180^{\circ}C$ by PEGylation. No cytotoxicity of PEGylated pentamer was observed by L929 cell proliferation test.

Preparation and Characterization of LiMn₂O₄ Powder by Combustion of Poly(ethylene glycol)-Metal Nitrate Precursor

  • $LiMn_2O_4$ powders were prepared by burning and subsequent calcination of PEG-metal nitrate precursor. After the burning stage of the precursor, some minor phases such as $Mn_2O_3$ (or $Mn_3O_4$), MnO, and carbonate were formed and single phases of $LiMn_2O_4$ were obtained by further calcinations above 400 ℃. From thermal analysis of the precursor, a violent thermal decomposition, which was indicated by a drastic weight loss accompanied by a sharp and strong exothermic peak, was observed and probably caused by an oxidation-reduction reaction between oxidizer and fuel. The formation of the minor phases could be explained in terms of the burning behavior of the precursor by employing valence concepts of propellant chemistry. The calcined powders were composed of submicron-sized but highly agglomerated particles and showed very broad particle size distribution.

  • The early hydration characteristics of the system $C_3S-C_3A-C_4AF$ according to the clinker composition variations, in order to establish the mutual interactionof clinker minerals during the portland cement hydration, have been studied. The early hydration rate of $C_3S$ was greatly effected by the change of $C_3S/C_3A$ ratio. The lower the $C_3S/C_3A$ ratio was, the faster the apex reaching time and the rate of heat liberation of the 2nd exothermic peak originating from the formation of $Ca(OH)_2$ were. The effect of $C_3S/C_3A$ ration on the amounts of $Ca(OH)_2$ formation was decreased, in process of hydration time, but the effect of $C_3S$ content was increased.
