대전지역 고등학생들의 건강관련 인자 조사 연구 (Survey for General Traits of Health-associated Factors of High School Students in Daegeon City)

  • Objective: To obtain an overview of the status of health-associated factors of Korean high school adolescents. Methods: 2,455 high school students (1,808 boys and 647 girls) filled out questionnairesfor their health-related factors such as physical problems, sleep and exercise. Results: Students sleep about 5.5 hours per day while they exercise only 2.6 hours each week. 14.2% of students skip breakfast every day. 31.0% of students were under severe stress, and 46.4 % has at least one symptom of distresses such as indigestion, headache, frequently catching cold, or muscle pain. 40.7% of the students took a functional supplement, especially vitamins as the most common, and ginseng and herbal drugs as the second and third. Conclusion: These results present general health-associated status of high school students, thus they could be helpful to design medicinal strategies for high school students using traditional Korean medicine.

독거노인과 가족동거노인의 건강상태와 건강행위 경험이 건강 관련 삶의 질에 미치는 영향: 2014 지역사회 건강조사 자료 활용 (Effects of the Health Status and Health Behavior on Health-related Quality of Life of the Elderly Living Alone and Living with Their Families: Using Data from the 2014 Community Health Survey)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify factors influencing the quality of life of the elderly living alone and living with their families with regard to their health statuses and health behavior experiences. Methods: We used source data from the 2014 Community Health Survey. The subjects of this study included some elderly people aged 65 and over, and analyzed the data of 13,373 elders living alone and 13,322 elders living with family. Results: Factors influencing the quality of life of the elderly living alone and living with their families include gender, age, education, household income, current occupation, subjective stress level, depression, number of diagnosed diseases, walking exercise, the experience of health screening, and the experience of not having necessary medical services (p<.001). Region was a significant variable influencing the quality of life of the elderly living with their families (p<.001). Conclusion: In order to improve the quality of life of the elderly, it is necessary to provide sound conditions for working, emotional support, walking exercise and promotion of health screening, and to supplement the environment and institution for them to receive necessary medical services.

비만인과 정상인간 일회성 점증부하 훈련이 항산화 효소에 미치는 효과 (Effects of gradual loaded exercise on antioxidative enzymes response in normal and obese men)

  • 본 연구는 일회성 점증부하에 의한 혈액 세포내 항산화 효소 발현을 비만인과 정상인을 대상으로 운동의 효과에 대한 생화학 적응을 밝히는데 그 목적을 두고 시도되었다. 본 연구에 참가한 피험자는 본 연구의 목적을 충분히 이해하고 자발적인 참여를 원하는 비만인 8명과 정상인 8명의 총 16명이었다. 정상인 집단 8명은 특별한 대사성 질환이나 근골격계 질환이 없었으며, 비만여부의 판정기준은 체지방율 25% 이상으로 하였다. 피험자들의 혈액은 안정시, 운동직후, 그리고 회복기에 각각 자료처리 분석을 위해 집단 간 시기별 측정치의 차이분석을 위해 공변량분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구결과, 운동직후 정상인이 SOD 활성이 비만인 보다 통계적으로 높게 나타났다 (p<0.05). 일회성 운동이 비만인의 항산화 효소 활성보다 정상인의 항산화 효소 활성을 높게 한다는 결과는 운동직후 정상인의 ROS 생성이 활발해짐과 동시에 항산화 체제가 활성화되어 활성산소의 중화제 역할을 수행하는 것으로 사료된다.

전북 일부지역 중년의 사회 경제적 요인, 건강 및 생활 관련인자가 건강식품 섭취에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Social-Economic Factors and Related factors of Health and Life-Style on Health Foods Intakes among the Middle Aged in the Jeonbuk Region)

  • This study examined health foods intakes and related variables among the middle aged(150 men and 159 women) in the Jeonbuk region. Health foods were classified into 4 groups including Chinese medicine(CM), toner foods(TF), vitamin or mineral supplements(VMS), and other manufactured health food supplements(MHFS). The number of people taking health foods were higher for those in their 50's than in their 40's. The consumption rate of TF in men was the highest among health foods, this result had significance. The reasons for taking health foods were recovery from fatigue, supplement of nutrients and making smooth body activity in general, but TF was used to increase of vigor. The consumption rate of health foods was a little different according to social-economic factors, namely, the consumption rate of CM was higher in people in rural than urban areas, those who graduated from middle school than university, blue color & self-employed as opposed to housewives and service workers, low level income than high level income, and Buddhism and no religion than Christian. The consumption rate had a correlation with the habits of smoking, alcohol drinking and exercise ; namely, the consumption rate of CM was higher than VMS and MHFS on smokers and alcohol drinkers. The more the frequency of exercise, the higher the consumption rate of TF, but the duration of the exercise was not correlated. This study suggests that middle aged people need nutritional education for the right recognition and selection of health foods and to consider the nature of each type of health foods.

식료품 제조업 여성 근로자를 위한 피로감소 프로그램의 효과 (Effects of Fatigue Reduction Program on Female Employees in One Food Production Company)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test effects of fatigue reduction program for women workers at a food production company. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was conducted. Eighteen workers in vitamin E group, 16 workers in vitamin E and stretching group, and 18 workers in stretching only group participated. Participants were evaluated at baseline and 8 weeks. Results: The results showed that stretching only group had a significant impact on reducing of fatigue level compared to those of a vitamin E group. Conclusion: Although vitamin E supplement has not shown decreasing fatigue level, the positive effect of stretching exercise may have high applicability to a workplace.

  • Recently, westernized diet and lifestyles have led to obesity and various adult diseases resulting in a negative influence on the quality of life. There has been an increased interest in choosing proper diet and regular exercise in order to lead a healthy life. The number of people looking for dietary supplements has increased steadily. Dietary supplements are products intended to help maintain or improve the health of consumers. However, if customers take dietary supplements excessively, they may be harmful due to side effects, misuse, abuse and overdose. I performed a toxicologic review of the dietary supplements, glucosamine and chitosan, which are widely used in the country in order to provide the proper understanding of safety of these products.

Cor Triatriatum Sinistrum with an Ostium Primum Atrial Septal Defect in a Siamese Cat

  • An approximately 8-month-old, 2.61 kg, male Siamese kitten was referred with primary complaints of a 1-week history of respiratory distress, exercise intolerance and dyspnea. Diagnostic studies identified III/VI systolic murmur in the cardiac auscultation, right ventricular enlargement patterns in the electrocardiogram, pleural effusion and right-sided cardiomegaly in the thoracic radiography, and right marked ventricular dilatation, right atrial enlargement, atrial septal defect and abnormal left atrium divided by fibromuscular membrane. Based on these findings, the case was diagnosed as cor triatriatum sinistrum complicated with an ostium primum atrial septal defect. The cat was rescued with furosemide, nitroglycerine, oxygen supplement and fluid removal from pleural cavity.

  • Since immemorial time Panax ginseng has been known as therapeutic, tonic, prophylactic and restorative agent in ancient Korea, China and Tibet and at present time is also used as a food supplement by Western societies (6). Various ginseng preparations in a form of powders, teas, tinctures or extracts, very often mixed with other substances are recommended for attenuation of degenerative processes caused by aging or fatigue, as well as for treatment of various disorders and diseases in several organs (e.g. circulatory and nervous system, liver, kidney). One of the most commonly known properties of ginseng is its possibly positive influence on physical and mental performance and general well being. Because of these adaptogenic properties promoting vitality and resistance to stress ginseng is considered as an ergogenic aid. During almost 40 years in many laboratories attempts have been made to find out whether ginseng can be 'a remedy for today's problems'. The present work is focused on the results obtained in human studies and concerning an influence of ginseng root extracts on exercise and mental performance.

넘어짐 예방 운동이 여성노인의 체력, 자세, 낙상효능감에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Exercise Program for Prevention of Falling on Physical Fitness, Posture and Fall Prevention Self-Efficacy for Elderly Women)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 넘어짐 예방 운동이 여성노인의 체력, 자세, 낙상효능감에 미치는 영향을 규명하는 것이다. 연구 대상은 65세 이상의 여성노인 30명을 대상으로 하였으며, 그 중 14명은 운동집단, 16명은 비교 집단으로 하였다. 넘어짐 예방운동 프로그램은 탄성밴드를 이용한 다방향 근력 근지구력, 파워 운동, 자세 정렬 운동과 한국무용 동작을 접목한 다방향 동적균형, 협응력 운동으로 구분하였고 총 12주간, 주 2회, 각 60분으로 진행하였다. 운동 프로그램 전후의 체력, 자세, 낙상 효능감을 측정하여 비교하였다. 연구 결과 운동 집단은 악력을 제외한 근지구력, 심폐지구력, 유연성, 평형성, 협응력에서 유의하게 증가하였고, 자세는 상체 기울기를 제외한 어깨 기울기, 견갑골 기울기, 골반 기울기, 종골각 기울기, 다리길이 차이가 유의하게 감소하였다. 낙상 효능감 점수는 운동 집단에서는 증가하고 비교 집단에서 감소하였으나, 모두 통계적으로 유의하지는 않았다. 그러므로 넘어짐 예방운동은 체력 향상과 자세교정에 효과적이라는 결론을 내릴 수 있다. 그러나 악력(근력)을 증가하는 것과 상체기울기를 교정하는 운동프로그램의 보완이 필요하다.

고강도 트레이닝 시 생맥산 섭취가 혈중 지질 및 동맥경화 지수에 미치는 긍정적인 영향 (Positive effect of Saengmaeg-san intake on blood lipid and arteriosclerosis index during high-intensity training)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 남자 테니스 선수의 생맥산 섭취가 혈중 지질 및 동맥경화 지수에 미치는 영향을 조사하는 것이었다. 남자 대학 테니스 선수 17 명을 4 주간의 고강도 테니스 하계훈련 중 생맥산 섭취 여부에 따라 생맥산 섭취군(n=9)과 위약 대조군(n=8)으로 나누었다. 테니스 하계훈련은 4 주간 주 5 회 실시하였으며, 운동강도는 예비심박수의 70~90%로 실시하였다. 생맥산은 아침 식사 전, 운동 중, 운동 중, 운동 후 1 회 110ml, 저녁 식사 후 1 일 총 7 회 770ml 를 섭취하였다. 모든 데이터에 대해 평균 및 표준 편차를 사용하였으며, 시기간 및 생맥산 섭취그룹의 효과를 확인하기 위하여 반복측정분산분석법을 사용하였고, 생맥산 섭취 후 혈중 지질의 차이에 대한 관련성을 알아보기 위하여 Pearson 의 상관분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구결과, 생맥산 섭취군은 혈중 지질(중성지방, 총콜레스테롤, 고밀도지단백콜레스테롤, 저밀도지단백 콜레스테롤)과 동맥경화지수가 유의하게 개선되었으며, ∆TG, ∆LDL 및 ∆TC 간에는 유의한 상관관계가 나타났다. 결론적으로 남자 대학 테니스 선수의 고강도 트레이닝 시 생맥산 섭취는 혈중 지질 및 동맥경화 지수에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있어 운동 보조제로서 효과적인 스포츠 음료가 될 수 있음을 시사한다.
