The use of diverse methods for the retaining system has been continuously increased in order to maintain the stability during excavation. However, ground anchor system occasionally may have the restriction in urban excavation sites nearby the existing structures because of space limitation. In this case, soil nailing system with relatively short length of nails could be efficiently useful as an alternative method. The general soil nailing support system, however, may result in excessive deformations particularly in excavating the zone of weak soils or nearby the existing structures. Therefore, applying the pretension force to the soil nails then could play important roles to reduce deformations mainly in an upper part of the nailed-soil excavation system as well as to improve the local slope stability. In this study, a newly modified soil nailing technology named as the PSN(Pretention Soil Nailing) is developed to reduce both facing displacements and ground surface settlements during top-down excavation process as well as to increase the global slope stability. Up to now, the PSN system has been investigated mainly focusing on an establishment of the design procedure. In the present study, the field tests including pull-out tests were fulfilled to investigate the behavior of characteristics for PSN system. All results of tests were also analyzed to provide a fundamental and efficient design.

This study analyzes the approach method for the excavation of the outstanding projects in order to improve the ODA quality in the agricultural sector in a situation of the recent quantitative expansion of the Korea's ODA. This analysis is based on the ODA development paradigm of the international society, Korea's ODA development trends, the problems of system, procedure and contents. The analysis drew five approaches, such as an approach based on the strategies, an approach based on the comparative advantage, an approach based on the partnership, an approach based on the networking, an approach of modeling. If each approach method is applied to the excavation of project closely linked to other approach methods, it would be easier to excavate outstanding project. And it could lead to enhancement of project effectiveness. This study introduced the KAPEX program which excavate the customized ODA projects through the application of these approach methods.
The ground anchor support system may not be occasionally used because of space limitations in urban excavation sites nearby the existing structures. In this case, soil nailing system with relatively short length of nails could be efficiently adopted as an alternative method. The general soil nailing support system, however, may result in excessive deformations particularly in an excavation zone of the existing weak subsoils. Pretensioning the soil nails then could play important roles to reduce deformations mainly in the upper part of the nailed-soil excavation system as well as to improve local stability. In this study, a newly modified soil nailing technology named as the PSN (Pretension Soil Nailing), is developed to reduce both facing displacements and ground surface settlements in top-down excavation process as well as to increase the global stability. Up to now, the analytical procedure and design technique are proposed to evaluate maximum pretension force and stability of the PSN system. Also, proposed are techniques to determine the required thickness of a shotcrete facing and to estimate probability of a failure against the punching shear, Based on the proposed procedure and technique, effects of the radius of a influence circle and dilatancy angle on the thickness of a shotcrete facing, bonded length and safety factors are analyzed. In addition, effects of the reduction of deformations expected by pretension of the soil nails are examined in detail throughout an illustrative example and the $FLAC^{2D}$ program analysis. And a numerical approach is proposed PSN system using the shear strength reduction technique with the $FLAC^{2D}$ program.

Also proposed are techniques to determine the required thickness of a shotcrete facing and to estimate probability of a failure against the punching shear. The predicted results are compared with the limited measurements obtained from the excavation site constructed by using the pretensioned soil nails. Based on the proposed procedure and technique, effects of the radius of a influence circle and dilatancy angle on the thickness of a shotcrete facing, bonded length and safety factors are analyzed. In addition, effects of the reduction of deformations expected by pretensioning of the soil nails are examined in detail throughout an illustrative example and FLAC$^{2D}$ program analysis.s.
It is impossible to precat the behavior of ground soil and structure accurately during underground construction in urban area or excavation in soft ground area because of difference between the assumed design condition and the actual site condition. Therefore, it must be managed by measuring system and correct the difference by real data. Large scale under ground construction in urban area like a seoul subway project has needed for Intelligent Construction technique, a field of the Engineering Contractor. The automated measuring system is developed for the technique. It is described that the procedure and the method of measuring work with application of the automated measuring system.

In the design and construction of underground structures, it is essential to accurately predict the structural behavior of the fluid-saturated ground during and after excavation. Terzaghi and Biot established the theory for the behavior of such two phase material. For the purpose of analysing the saturated porous solid system, finite element procedure provides a powerful tool. In this paper, a finite element analysis procedure based upon Biot's theory is presented to evaluate the deformation of solid skeleton and pore pressure of entraped fluid. Teraghi's onf-dimensional and Gibson's two-dimensional problems are solved using Q4 and Q8 element to verify the program validity.
The finite element and boundary element methods of underground analysis are both well established numerical techniques for determination of stress and displacement distributions at underground excavation. The finite element method presents antithetical advantages and limitations. Complex constitutive behaviour may be modelled, at the expense of numerical efficiency and, for infinite domain, inadequate representation of remote bounadry conditions. The inherent advantages of the boundary element method are the ease with which infinite domain problems may be analysed, and the efficiency of analysis typically associated with a boundary value solution procedure. Application of the method is limited by the requirements linear constitutive behaviour for the medium. A combined of the finite element and boundary element methods of underground analysis is shown to preserve the advantages of each procedure, and, eliminates their individual disadvantages. Procedures employed in this papers described combined FEBEM algorithm. Solutions of underground excavation verifying the performance of combined FEBEM code are compared with theoretical solution, boundary element solution and finite element solution.
Recently in Korea, application of the soil nailing is gradually extended to the sites of excavations and slopes having various ground conditions and field characteristics. Design of the soil nailing is generally carried out in two steps, The First step is to examine the minimum safety factor against a sliding of the reinforced nailed-soil mass based on the limit equilibrium approach, and the second step is to check the maximum displacement expected to occur at facing using the numerical analysis technique. However, design parameters related to the soil nailing system are so various that a reliable design method considering interrelationships between these design parameters is continuously necessary. Additionally, taking into account the anisotropic characteristics of in-situ grounds, disturbances in collecting the soil samples and errors in measurements, a systematic analysis of the field measurement data as well as a rational technique of the optimum design is required to improve with respect to economical efficiency. As a part of these purposes, in the present study, a procedure for the optimum design of a soil nailing excavation wall system is proposed. Focusing on a minimization of the expenses in construction, the optimum design procedure is formulated based on the genetic algorithm. Neural network theory is further adopted in predicting the maximum horizontal displacement at a shotcrete facing. Using the proposed procedure, various effects of relevant design parameters are also analyzed. Finally, an optimized design section is compared with the existing design section at the excavation site being constructed, in order to verify a validity of the proposed procedure.
A Study on a Woman's Shrouds in Middle of the 16 Century based on the excavation of the Mrs. Moon's grave in Andong is reported in this paper. As a result of the study the followings are obtained: 1. From the architecture and costume in the Mrs. Moon's grave we can conclude that Confucian funeral rites were already established in Andong region of the 16th century. 2. Although the round length for tunnel excavation has a major technical and economical impact in conventional tunnelling, there is no coherent procedure available for its determination. In this study, the influence of round length on the behaviour modes of weak rock tunnel was investigated by numerical analyses. Quantitative estimation of the behaviour modes of the face and the unsupported span was established by use of the safety factor for the face stability and the conditional chart. In addition, the optimum round length in the tunnel design stage was investigated based on the detail construction information such as cycle time and material costs. Although this proposed method has some restrictions, it is expected to provide useful information for the optimization of the tunnel excavation, especially in design stage.
