The study is an image-based assessment that uses image processing techniques to determine the condition of concrete with surface cracks. The preparations of the dataset include resizing and image filtering to ensure statistical homogeneity and noise reduction. The image dataset is then segmented, making it more suited for extracting important features and easier to evaluate. The image is transformed into grayscale which removes the hue and saturation but retains the luminance. To create a clean edge map, the edge detection process is utilized to extract the major edge features of the image. The Otsu method is used to minimize intraclass variation between black and white pixels. Additionally, the median filter was employed to reduce noise while keeping the borders of the image. Image processing techniques are used to enhance the significant features of the concrete image, especially the defects. In this study, the tonal zones of the histogram and its properties are used to analyze the condition of the concrete. By examining the histogram, the viewer will be able to determine the information on the image through the number of pixels associated and each tonal characteristic on a graph. The features of the five tonal zones of the histogram which implies the qualities of the concrete image may be evaluated based on the quality of the contrast, brightness, highlights, shadow spikes, or the condition of the shadow region that corresponds to the foreground.
In this paper, I proposed the adaptive watermarking based on the discrete wavelet transform for the very robust watermarking against intentional distortion which attacks on image. A watermark is an binary image such as document(sign), and such watermark image is embedded in the LH and HL band of wavelet transformed domain for copyright protection of image data. To evaluate robustness of the proposed method, we applied some basic algorithm of image processing such as brightening, darkening, sharpening, blurring, cropping, histogram equalizing and lossy compression(JPEG, gif). As a result of experiment, the proposed method has the good image quality and the high perceptibility of watermark. It was demonstrated by experiments that the proposed algorithm can provide an excellent protection under various attacks.
In this paper the object recognition performance of a photon counting integral imaging system is quantitatively compared with that of a conventional gray scale imaging system. For 3D imaging of objects with a small number of photons, the elemental image set of a 3D scene is obtained using the integral imaging set up. We assume that the elemental image detection follows a Poisson distribution. Computational geometrical ray back propagation algorithm and parametric maximum likelihood estimator are applied to the photon counting elemental image set in order to reconstruct the original 3D scene. To evaluate the photon counting object recognition performance, the normalized correlation peaks between the reconstructed 3D scenes are calculated for the varied and fixed total number of photons in the reconstructed sectional image changing the total number of image channels in the integral imaging system. It is quantitatively illustrated that the recognition performance of the photon counting integral imaging system can be similar to that of a conventional gray scale imaging system as the number of image viewing channels in the photon counting integral imaging (PCII) system is increased up to the threshold point. Also, we present experiments to find the threshold point on the total number of image channels in the PCII system which can guarantee a comparable recognition performance with a gray scale imaging system. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on comparisons of object recognition performance with 3D photon counting & gray scale images.
Since the amount of digital image continues to grow in usage, users feel increased difficulty in finding specific images from the image collection. This paper proposes a novel image searching scheme that extracts the image feature using combination of Advanced SURF (Speed-Up Robust Feature) and DCD (Dominant Color Descriptor). The key point of this research is to provide a new feature extraction algorithm to improve the existing SURF method with removal of unnecessary feature in image retrieval, which can be adaptable to mobile system and efficiently run on the mobile environments. To evaluate the proposed scheme, we assessed the performance of simulation in term of average precision and F-score on two databases, commonly used in the field of image retrieval. The experimental results revealed that the proposed algorithm exhibited a significant improvement of over 14.4% in retrieval effectiveness, compared to OpenSURF. The main contribution of this paper is that the proposed approach achieves high accuracy and stability by using ASURF and DCD in searching for natural image on mobile platform.
We present an image retrieval method that improves retrieval rate by using the fusion of histogram and wavelet moment features. The key idea is that images similar to a query image are selected in DB by using the wavelet moment features. Then the result images are retrieved from the selected images by using histogram method. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we use Brodatz texture database, MPEG-7 T1 database and Corel Draw photo. Experimental result shows that the proposed method is better than each of histogram method and wavelet moment method.
The objectives of this research were to identify the differences of image evaluations by perceiver's gender, majors and jeans' finishing and to examine image characteristics that have an influence on attractiveness and preferences of jeans' finishing. The subjects are 96 undergraduate students in Los Angeles of the USA. Elegant and refined images had a significant effort on perceiver's gender, so men tended to highly evaluate jeans as elegant and refined images than did women. Soft images were recognized differently by perceiver's major, so non-specialists in design tended to highly evaluate jeans as soft images than did specialists in design. In finishing, shattered wash was evaluated as the most individual, attractive, energetic, and splendid images, and stone wash was evaluated as the most ordinary, unattractive, and plain images. Light images tended to have interaction effects by majors and finishing. Specialists in design did not perceive differences between light images from finishing well, but non-specialists in design perceived that stone wash finishing's image is lighter than indigo blue finishing's image. Sociable images had interaction effects by perceiver's gender, majors and jeans' finishing, and especially non-specialists in men estimated that shattered wash has the lowest sociable images in finishing. According to evaluations about finishing images of ladies' jeans, men tended to be attracted by splendid images, and women tended to be attracted by sexy images. In addition, both men and women were commonly attracted by feminine images, so the study found that feminine images is important image for developing jeans for ladies. According to evaluations about finishing images of ladies' jeans, men preferred sexy and natural images to comfortable and energetic images, and women preferred sexy and neat images. Female undergraduate students of the USA tended to be attracted by sexy images, and we found that actually they consider buying jeans with such images.

This paper presents a modified CCI image interpolation method based on the even-odd decomposition (EOD). The CCI method is a well-known technique to interpolate images. Although the method provides better image quality than the linear interpolation, its complexity still is a problem. To remedy the problem, this paper introduces analysis on the EOD decomposition of CCI and then proposes a reduced CCI interpolation in terms of complexity, providing better image quality in terms of PSNR. To evaluate the proposed method, we conduct experiments and complexity comparison. The results indicate that our method do not only outperforms the existing methods by up to 43% in terms of MSE but also requires low-complexity with 37% less computing time than the CCI method.
Satellite Image archiving system requires large storage and long transmission time. A simple and cheap way of overcoming these limitations is to increase the compression ratio. However this requires a feasibility study for accurate applications. Here, a new still image compression standard is being developed, the JPEG2000. It provides lossless and lossy compression, progressive transmission by pixel accuracy and by resolution, region-of-interest coding, user-defined tiling size, random codestream access and processing etc. In this study, we will briefly introduce the JPEG2000 compression standard which provides a new compression technique based on the wavelet technology and offers better compression ratios, and evaluate the compression ratios of JPEG2000 for satellite image by performing various image quality tests. Also, we will compare brief test result using the commercial remote sensing software.

Copy-move forgery (CMF) in digital images is a detrimental tampering of artefacts that requires precise detection and analysis. CMF is performed by copying and pasting a part of an image into other portions of it. Despite several efforts to detect CMF, accurate identification of noise, blur and rotated region-mediated forged image areas is still difficult. A novel algorithm is developed on the basis of quaternion polar complex exponential transform (QPCET) to detect CMF and is conducted involving a few steps. Firstly, the suspicious image is divided into overlapping blocks. Secondly, invariant features for each block are extracted using QPCET. Thirdly, the duplicated image blocks are determined using k-dimensional tree (kd-tree) block matching. Lastly, a new technique is introduced to reduce the flat region-mediated false matches. Experiments are performed on numerous images selected from the CoMoFoD database. MATLAB 2017b is used to employ the proposed method. Metrics such as correct and false detection ratios are utilised to evaluate the performance of the proposed CMF detection method. Experimental results demonstrate the precise and efficient CMF detection capacity of the proposed approach even under image distortion including rotation, scaling, additive noise, blurring, brightness, colour reduction and JPEG compression. Furthermore, our method can solve the false match problem and outperform existing ones in terms of precision and false positive rate. The proposed approach may serve as a basis for accurate digital image forensic investigations.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of achromatic shirt and chromatic tie combination on image of menswear. This experiment was designed by shirt color(N9, N7, N4, N2), tie color(red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple), tie tone(vivid, light, dull, dark), and perceiver gender(a male, a female). The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimulus and response scales. The stimuli were 96 upper body photographs and 26 7-point bi-polar adjectives were used to evaluate the image. The subjects of this research were 480 male and 480 female college students. The data was analyzed by using SPSS program. Analysis methods were four-way ANOVA. The items of the adjectives were classified into 4 image factor: potency, activity, attractiveness, and visibility. Shirt color, tie color, tie tone influenced on the 4 image dimension greatly by interaction as well as independently. Dull or dark tone tie had an effect on the formation of potency image. And white color shirt, vivid or light tone tie had an effect on the formation of activity image. White or black shirt had a positive effect on attractiveness, and black shirt or vivid tone tie was effective for visible image.
