  • In Korea, the occurrence and risk of similar fires are high, so setting up fire prevention measures through fire case investigation is considered the most basic measure in securing human safety. In particular, calculation of evacuation capacity in evacuation safety design of buildings is the most important factor that directly affects evacuation safety performance. However domestic standards is not consider about occupant characteristics. also the case of domestic, it has the problem that the law is partially applied when the fire safety design of buildings. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to study the current status and related regulations of the life safety code for the application of high fire risk buildings, and to analyze the difference in evacuation time through Case Study.

  • Recently, due to fires in high-rise residential and commercial buildings and apartments in Ulsan and Busan, the issue of evacuation safety in the event of a building fire is being closely watched. In the evacuation safety design for these building fires, it is important to secure evacuation routes considering the spatial characteristics of the building or the characteristics of the occupants and to take measures to protect the evacuation routes in order to ensure the safety of the occupants in the event of a fire. Although simulation is mainly used in Korea to assess the safety of evacuation, there is a big difference in that the Building Standards Act provides tools that can be calculated more than simulation in neighboring Japan. In addition to the evaluation method, which is called the "Building Law Assessment Methods" in Japan, the research team considered that it is important to know the process of evaluation in future domestic research, and investigated the contents of the evaluation process and wanted to apply it first to domestic buildings in the future.

  • The law reflects the situation of the times, understands the society, and shows the will of the state and the community. The Means of Egress should be maintained from design to construction, supervision, as well as use, in order to protect the lives and property of the residents as well as the safe use of the facilities. However, Interior Architects are think that evacuation and safety regulations are complex elements that change frequently and may inhibit the idea of design. The purpose of this study is to propose a design method for the use of safe facilities in the interior architectural design on the evacuation regulations affecting the actual design by the IBC(the International Building Code) and NFPA(National Fire Protection Association) LSC (Life Safety Code). The research method is to investigate and analyze the provisions related to the evacuation of interior architecture in the US and to understand the current regulations and the evacuation regulations. We suggest to design method to the details of the hallway, corridors, aisle accessway, door way, exit path, In particular, the design of furniture, tables and chairs layout that could be obstacles to evacuation situations is presented.

  • In this study, fire and evacuation safety of environmental energy facilities using fire and evacuation simulation was examined as part of performance-oriented design. The worst-case fire scenarios in which fire-fighting facilities such as sprinkler fire extinguishing and smoke control systems are not working, and the FDS analyzes the visibility, temperature distribution, and carbon monoxide concentration distribution through FDS. The safety was examined. As a result, it was proved that evacuation could limit the visibility, temperature, and carbon monoxide concentration in a smooth range, based on the safety standards set by relevant laws. In other words, it was possible to verify the safety of fire and evacuation for environmental energy facilities where a large amount of combustibles and fires coexist.

  • Social welfare facilities are used by a wide range of local residents, including vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and people with disabilities. During emergencies like fires, confusion can arise as these individuals try to evacuate. Evacuation simulation results have shown that utilizing evacuation systems based on specific evacuation scenarios can significantly decrease the time required for evacuation compared to general evacuation procedures. By anticipating potential fires based on changes in social and facility environments, appropriate evacuation scenarios can be developed and applied to evacuation systems, thus contributing to the safety and security of individuals during emergencies. In conclusion, for social welfare facilities that serve a large number of people, it is necessary to expand the focus on performance-based design depending on the size of the facility, and to continuously develop and train for appropriate evacuation scenarios that align with changing facility environments.

  • Korea is rapidly becoming an aging society. As a basic research on increasing evacuation safety design at silver facilities, the study was conducted in consideration of different foot's pace according to the number of seniors and their locations in a crowding of ordinary people and seniors all together. When the seniors were located at the front, the pace reduced to 0.81m/s on average. With 10 seniors which covered 50% of the crowd, the pace decreased to 0.85m/s. It is true that Korea has no existing researches on evacuation behaviour, and functions mentioned in its evacuation safety design is lack of practicality. Therefore, it is certainly necessary to secure any data of the evacuation behavior through various studies on seniors' evacuation behaviors.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the change in evacuation time at high schools according to the change in hallway width using an evacuation simulation program and to analyze the result of such change. In order to measure the evacuation time according to the change in the hallway width according to the 「Rules on the Standards for Evacuation and Fire Protection Structures of Buildings」 and to analyze the change in evacuation time resulted from the increase in the number of occupants, a scenario was constructed by applying the 「performance-oriented design method and standard for firefighting facilities, etc.」. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the evacuation time was the shortest when the width of the hallway was the widest, which was 3m. On the other hand, the evacuation time took the longest at 1.8m, which was the width of the second narrowest hallway. For the safety of high school students who spend a lot of time at school, it is necessary to secure a wide hallway width when building a new school or to provide periodic safety education in the case of an existing school whose hallways are considered narrow.

  • The elderly population in Korea is constantly increasing. As the number of Long-Term Care hospitals increases, many fires have occurred in related facilities. In this facilities, due to the characteristics of the occupants, self-evacuation is difficult, resulting in a number of casualties. It is necessary to Life safety design that reflects the characteristics of the occupants of domestic long-term hospitals. The study attempted to suggest improvements to the standards of evacuation behavior model for occupants of domestic and overseas long-term care hospitals. As a result of the study, patients living in long-term hospitals have a problem that is difficult to evacuate on their own. It is judged that there is a need to present an evacuation behavior model database by setting evacuation priorities and evacuation plans. In addition, it is necessary to more the design factors that affect the evacuation model as well as the characteristics of the occupants of the long-term care hospital.

  • As the Performance Based Fire Protection Design is legislated, studies on a fire and evacuation are actively in progress. The Performance Based Fire Protection Design should be developed toward enlarging the Life safety. In addition, the Performance Based Fire Protection Design shall not merely review the aspects of fire fighting but it shall also include regulations pertaining to evacuation stipulated in laws and regulations for buildings. This study performed an evacuation time prediction based on OO Night Club, one of the multiplex use facilities located in Gwang-ju Metropolitan City in order to suggest as a referential data for the Performance Based Fire Protection Design implementation. To do this, I investigated domestic and foreign regulations and research papers related to evacuation and went to visit the actual site and collected materials. The collected data was then used as ones to input in Simulex, an evacuation program to measure evacuation time. The collected data was then used as data to input in Simulex, an evacuation program to measure evacuation time. Through this particular research and results, the study was able to suggest a few concerning areas.

  • The computer program is developed to simulate the evacauation time for a building which is made geometrically complex. The program is intended for use both as a search and a design tool to analyze the evacuation safety through a wide range of structure environments. The computer program has a function of importing FDS's result to each individual resident in the building. These attributes include a walking speed reduction by producing visibility reduction for each person on the fire. $A^*$ pathfinding algorithm is adopted to calculate the simulation of escape movement, overtaking, route deviation, and adjustments to individual speeds due to the proximity of crowd members. Finally, a case study for a theater is presented to compared the calculated evacuation time with SIMULEX in detail. This program contribute to a computer program that evaluates the evacuation time of individual occupants as they walk towards, and through the exits especially for building, underground spaces like a subway or tunnel.
