농용(農用) 디이젤 엔진 연료(燃料)로서의 에타놀 이용(利用)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Technical Feasibility of Ethanol as a Fuel for Farm Diesel Engines)

  • The objective of this study was to find out the technical feasibility of ethanol-diesel fuel blends as a diesel engine fuel. Fuel properties essential to the proper operation of a diesel engine were determined for blends containing several concentrations of ethanol in No. 2 diesel fuel. A single-cylinder diesel engine for a power tiller was used for the engine tests, in which load, speed and fuel consumption rate were measured. The fuels used in tests were No. 2 diesel fuel and a blend containing 10-percent ethanol and 90-percent No. 2 diesel fuel. The results of the study are summarized as follows. 1. It was not possible to blend ethanol and No. 2 diesel fuel as a homogeneous solution even though anhydrous ethanol was used. The problem of blending ethanol in No. 2 diesel fuel could be solved by adding butanol about 5% of the amount of ethanol in the blends. 2. Because ethanol had a much lower boiling point ($78.3^{\circ}C$ under atmospheric pressure) than a diesel fuel, it was necessary to store ethanol-diesel fuel blends airtight in order to prevent them from evaporation losses of ethanol. 3. The addition of ethanol to No. 2 diesel fuel lowered the fuel viscosity and the cetane rating, but a blend of 10% ethanol and 90% diesel fuel had a viscosity and a cetane rating well above the KS minimum values for No. 2 diesel fuel. 4. At the rated speed, the specific fuel consumption of No.2 diesel fuel was lower than that of the 10% ethanol blend for the almost entire range of load. However, under the overload condition the specific fuel consumption was lower for the 10% ethanol blend. 5. Under the variable-speed full-load tests, both fuels produced approximately the same torque and power. At the speeds of 1600rpm or below, the specific fuel consumption of No. 2 diesel fuel was lower than that of the 10% ethanol blend. At the speeds of 1600rpm or above, however, the specific fuel consumption was lower for the 10% ethanol blend. 6. At the ambient temperature above $15^{\circ}C$, the use of the 10% ethanol blend in the engine created a vapor lock in the fuel injection pump and stalled the engine. The vapor locking problem was overcome by chilling the surroundings of the fuel injection pump and the cylinder head with water.

Pilot Scale에서의 Fusant의 Ethanol 발효 (Ethanol Fermentation of Fusant between Heterologous Transformant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida tropicalis in Pilot Scale)

  • Fusant FSC14-75의 산업적 이용가능성을 검토하기 위한 최종 실험으로서 Working volume이 300 liters인 pilot scale에서의 발효력을 조사하였다. 13,3%의 liquefied sweet potato starch (Total sugar=14.8%)을 ethanol 발효원으로 함유한 fermentation broth 300liters를 0.6% seed로 발효시킨 결과 발효 최종일인 8일만에 6.6%(v/v)의 ethanol을 생성하였고 이때 잔당은 15%이었으므로 발효율은 총당에 대해서는 70%, 소비당에 대해서는 87.5%로 나타났다. 한편 fermentation broth로부터 FSC-14-75 유래의 unicellular cell과 flocculent cell을 분리할 수 있었으며 이를 각각 FSC14-75(S)와 FSC14-75(F)로 명명하였고, 이들 두 균주의 ethanol 발효능을 mini-jar fermentor scale에서 조사한 결과 FSC14-75(F)가 ethanol productivity에 있어서 우수하였으며 15%의 liquefied potato starch로부터 발효 10일만에 8.1%(v/v)의 ethanol을 생성하여 발효율은 총당에 대해 75%였다. FSC-14-73 (F)의 ethanol productivity를 pilot scale에서 조사하기 위해 총당 15.33%의 liquefied sweet potato starch를 함유한 fermentation broth 300 liters를 1% seed로써 발효시킨 결과 ethanol 생성은 배양 8일만에 최대 7.7%(v/v)였으며 이때 잔당은 1.9%였다. 또한 FSC-14-75(F) 균주의 발효과정중 $\alpha$-amylase의 계속적인 작용효과를 검토하기 위하여 300 liters의 fermentation broth를 살균 후1% seed와 동시에 50$m\ell$의 Thermamyl을 재차 첨가하고 ethanol 생성을 조사한 결과 발효율 및 잔당은 첨가하지 않은 경우와 별다른 차이가 없었다.

연잎 에탄올 추출물의 항산화 효과 및 아질산염 소거능 (Antioxidative Activity and Nitrite Scavenging Ability of Ethanol Extract from Nelumbo nucifera Leaves)

  • To confirm possibility of Nelumbo nucifera leaves as biofunctional material, we investigated the antioxidant activity and nitrite scavenging ability of ethanol extract from Nelumbo nucifera leaves. Nelumbo nucifera leaves were extracted with ethanol and concentrated under vacuum using rotary evaporator. Then, antioxidative activity and nitrite scavenging ability of the extract were examined in vitro. Electron -donating ability of the extract at RC50 was 90.19 ${\mu}g/mL$. After addition of 0.96 mg/mL, autooxidation of pyrogallol decreased to 66.19% by superoxide dismutase-like activity. In antioxidative activity of the extract against linoleic acid during incubation times of 24, 48, and 96 hours at $40^{\circ}C$, lipid peroxidation values significantly decreased to 72.53%, 82.00%, 84.69% with addition of 0.2 mg/mL, respectively. Total phenolic content was determined as gallic acid equivalents (GAE) and the value revealed to be $282.84\;{\pm}\;9.03$ GAE ${\mu}g/mg$ of the extract. Nitrite scavenging ability showed the most remarkable effect at pH 1.2, exhibited to 45.55% by addition of 0.2 mg/mL. These results suggest that ethanol extract from N. nucifera leaves can be used as bioactive and functional material.

축전식 탈염 공정의 액상 유기물에 따른 질소(N) 및 인(P) 처리 특성 (Effects of N & P Treatment Based on Liquid Organic Materials for Capacitive Deionization(CDI))

  • 유기물 첨가에 따른 CDI 모듈셀의 N, P 제거 특성을 위해 2000 ppm $NH_3$, $H_3PO_4$에 methanol, ethanol, iso-propanol, methoxy ethanol, glucose을 1, 2, 3 vol.%를 첨가해 용량 및 이온의 흡 탈착능을 관찰하였다. $NH_3$에서는 탄소수가 증가할수록 용량은 감소하는 경향을 나타내었으며, 용량은 methanol 3 vol.% 첨가 될 때 유기탄소 간섭 전보다 흡착은 16.4%, 탈착은 30.4%의 질소 제거율 증가를 나타내었다. $H_3PO_4$에서는 iso-propanol 2 vol.% 첨가 시에 유기탄소 간섭 전보다 흡착은 63%, 탈착은 54.7% 인산염의 제거율 증가를 확인하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 폐수 내의 유기물을 제거하지 않고 N, P 제거 효과와 운영비용을 감소할 수 있는 결과를 나타내었다.

Angular Dispersion-type Nonscanning Fabry-Perot Interferometer Applied to Ethanol-water Mixture

  • The angular dispersion-type non-scanning Fabry-Perot was applied to an ethanol-water mixture in order to investigate its acoustic properties such as the sound velocity and the absorption coefficient. The scattered light from the mixture was analyzed by using the charge-coupled-device area detector, which made the measurement time much shorter than that obtained by using the conventional scanning tandem multi-pass Fabry-Perot interferometer. The sound velocity showed a deviation from ultrasonic sound velocities at low temperatures accompanied by the increase in the absorption coefficient, indicating acoustic dispersion due to the coupling between the acoustic waves and some relaxation process. Based on a simplified viscoelastic theory, the temperature dependence of the relaxation time was obtained. The addition of water molecules to ethanol reduced the relaxation time, consistent with dielectric measurements. The present study showed that the angular dispersion-type Fabry-Perot interferometer combined with an area detector could be a very powerful tool in the real-time monitoring of the acoustic properties of condensed matter.

NiO의 첨가에 따른 α-Fe2O3 나노입자 센서의 에탄올 가스 검출 특성 향상 (Improved Ethanol Gas Sensing Performance of α-Fe2O3 Nanoparticles by the Addition of NiO Nanoparticles)

  • In order to investigate the effect of NiO on the ethanol gas sensing performance of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ nanoparticles, NiO and ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ nanoparticles are synthesized by hydrothermal method. The sensor with ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ and NiO nanoparticles mixed at an optimum ratio of 7:3 showed 3.8 times improved sensing performance for 200ppm ethanol gas at $200^{\circ}C$. The enhanced gas sensing performance can be considered to be caused by pn heterojunction at the grain boundaries of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ and NiO nanopartcles.

Evaluation for Protective Effect of Rutin, a Natural Flavonoid, against HCl/Ethanol-Induced Gastric Lesions

  • In this study we investigated the protective effects of rutin, a natural plant flavonoid, on HCl/ethanol-induced gastric lesions in rats. Rutin showed the antioxidant activities, the acid-neutralizing capacities, and the inhibitory effects on the growth of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori.), which are equivalent to control compounds. In addition, rutin significantly inhibited HCl/ethanol-induced gastric lesions. Antigastritic action of rutin may be associated with the antioxidant activities, acid-neutralizing capacities, anti-H. pylori action, and the stimulation of mucus secretion. From these results, we could suggest that rutin may be useful for the treatment and/or protection of gastritis.

혐기성 슬러지에 의한 폐수의 질소 제거에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Nitrogen Control in the Wastewater by Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket.)

  • The study was investigated with denitrification of wastewater containing nitrate using upflow anaerobic sludge blanket process. Contents of this study were the determination of nitrate removal efficiency by various hydrogen donor addition, relationship between HRT, nitrate loading rate and growth constant of microorganism in case or various hydrogen donor addition etc. Results from this study were summurized as follows. In case of adding methanol, ethanol, sodium acetate as hydrogen donor, treatability of wastewater contained 200mg/l as nitrate was about 91%. But in addition of ethanol, sodium acetate in wastewater contained 40mg/l as nitrate, nitrate removal efficiency was 80%. While the treatment of nitrate showed the yield coefficient of microorganisms(Y) as 234.8, 234.35, and 247.68 g/VSS/g nitrate, respectively, showed specific growth rate(K) as 0.885, 0.934 and 0.917 respectively.

Yogurt 제조시 인삼성분이 Lactobacillus casei의 증식과 산생성에 미치는 영향 (Influences of Ginseng Component on Cell Growth and Acid Production by Lactobacillus casei Burins Yogurt Fermentation)

  • In order to obtain the basic data for the preparation of yogurt containing ginseng component, the effect of ginseng component on cell growth of Lactobacillus casei YIT 9018 and on lactic acid production were investigated. Initial cell growth and acid production were markedly inhibited by the addition of ethanol extracts in the level of 8% into 15% skim milk. Crude saponin did not show any inhibitory effect on cell growth and acid production, but ether layer fraction showed inhibitory effect. It was thought to be more advantageous to add ginseng extracts after the fermentation of milk than before. The addition of ginseng extract at 8% level into liquid yogurt was most suitable in organoleptic test. Cell viability was not affected by the addition of ethanol extracts up to 8% level during storage of liquid yogurt.

Mini-jar fermentor Scale에서의 Fusant의 Ethanol 발효 (Ethanol Fermentation of Fusant between Heterologous Transformant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida tropicalis in Mini-jar Fermentor Scale)

  • Transformant TSD-14와 C. tropicalis간의 이속 간 융합체인 FSC-14-75의 산업적 이용가능성을 검토하기 위하여 mini-jar fermentor(working volume=2.5liters)를 사용하여 ethanol 발효의 최적조건 및 ethanol productivity를 조사하였다. Thermamyl(u-amylase, Novo Co.)로서 액화시킨 liquefied potato starch를 15%, 20%, 25% 농도로서 발효를 한 경우 총당에 대해 약 80%의 발효율을 나타내었으며 이는 yeast extract의 첨가에 의해 향상되었다. Ethanol 발효조건으로는 pH 4.2가 pH 5.5에 비해 효과적이었으며, seed volume을 공업적 수준인 10%로 하면 4일만에 20%의 liquefied potato starch로부터 11.0%(v/v)의 ethanol을 생성하여 현재의 공업적 사용균주의 성적에 필적할만 하였다. 또한 본 균주는 현재의 공업적 ethanol 발효생산에서 발효기질로 실제 이응하고 있는 Cassava starch 혹은 barley 및 sweet potato starch 등을 원료로 하였을 때도 8.5%(v/v) 및 7.6%(v/v)의 ethanol을 직접적으로 발효 생산하였으며, 한편 이와 같은 raw starch를 원료로 할 경우는 yeast extract를 첨가하지 않아도 무방하여 이상의 결과로 본 효모균주는 당화, 발효를 동시에 찰 수 있는 효모로서 공업적 이용이 가능할 것으로 기대되었다.
