This paper presents the algorithm for estimating the attitude of an underwater vehicle using EFK. The system model is designed by linerizing the nonlinear Euler angle differential equation and the measurements is a speed logger output. The simulation result shows that the estimation lagorithm is adequate for decreasing attitude errors that grow abruptly during the motion with acceleration and rotation. It also shows that we can adapt the algorithm for compensating initial attitude errors generated after initial leveling.

This study was to present the method for estimating the horizontal coefficient of consolidation by using velocity method which was based on the Barren's equation. Horizontal drainage consolidation tests, including a radial drainage consolidation test, a cylindrical consolidation test, and a large soil box test, were performed to examine its validity. Using the velocity method, horizontal coefficient of consolidation was calculated and compared with lost method, √t method, Magnan & Deroy's method, Bergado's method.

This paper presents an approach to determine the vehicle fleet size for container shuttle service in a stochastic working environment. The shuttle service can be defined as the repetitive travel between the designated places during working period. The initial number of vehicles is temporarily calculated using the transportation model. Simulation is carried out in order to investigate dynamic behavior of container shuttle. Finally, the equation for estimating the vehicle fleet size is obtained through the multiple regression model based on simulation results.

This paper deals with the problem of estimating the means in two inverse Gaussian populations with equal but unknown coefficient of variation. The maximum likelihood estimators are derived by solving a cubic equation and their asymptotic variances are presented for comparative purpose. Monte-Carlo simulation is conducted to investigate the efficiency of the estimators relative to the sample means over a wide range of values for the sample size and the coefficient of variation. The effect on this efficiency under the departure from the assumption of common coefficient of variation is also studied.

This method explores a method of aggregating the measures of effectiveness of a weapon system from its characteristics. With this method, the constant sum method and multiple regression are used to develop a functional relationship between system effectiveness and system characteristics. As an example, a study of a tank weapon system was${\cdot}$conducted with data from the U.S. Army Armor School. It was concluded that the aggregation method is feasible, and that for the tank system studied, the reciprocals of system characteristics give a good estimating equation for measuring tank system effectiveness.

In order to improve the operational reliability, it is necessary to validate the measured sensor data, isolate any failed sensor and recover the failed critical measurement. This paper describes the use of estimating equation to identify failed sensors and to recover the feedback signal for control purpose when the sensor measurement is determined to be erroneous Simulation results show that the proposed sensor validation scheme can adequately identify the failed sensor and provide reasonable estimates for control purposes.

In this paper, overdetermined method is used for high resolution spectral estimation in case of short data record length. To reduce the computational effort and to obtain recursive form of estimation algorithm, we modify data matrix to have near-Toeplitz structure. Then, new recursive algorithm is derived in the form of fast Kalman algorithm. Two stage procedure is used for the estimation of ARMA parameters. First AR parameters are estimated by using overdetermined modified Yule-walker equation, and then MA parameters are implicitly estimated by estimating numerator spectral coefficients(NS).

This study focused on developing a convolution solution for estimating vertical diffusivity of a less permeable hydrogeologic unit in a bedrock aquifer. The diffusivity and corresponding hydraulic conductivity were estimated using the developed convolution equation. An application case was presented in this study.

A method of estimating B$_{\alpha}$ life of crack growth is proposed based on the linear elastic fracture mechanic model. It is assumed that the coefficients in the Paris-Erdogan equation are random variables and their distributions are estimated by the method of 2-stage estimation from the fatigue crack growth data. A case study is also given. is also given.

A direct adaptive control algorithm for discrete-time SISO systems with arbitrary zeros is presented in a general way by making use of reference model. A linear equation error model is formulated for estimating both the controller parameters and the auxiliary parameters. With this algorithm, asyptotic tracking within an arbitrarily small error can be achieved.
