  • Holographic data storage (HDS) has a number of advantages, including a high transmission rate through the use of a charge coupled device array for reading two-dimensional (2D) pixel image data, and a high density capacity. HDS also has disadvantages, including 2d intersymbol interference by neighboring pixels and interpage interference by multiple pages stored in the same holographic volume. These problems can be eliminated by modulation codes. We propose a 7/9 error-correcting modulation code that exploits a Viterbi-trellis algorithm and has a code rate larger (about 0.778) than that of the conventional 6/8 balanced modulation code. We show improved performance of the bit error rate with the proposed scheme compared to that of the simple 7/9 code without the trellis scheme and the 6/8 balanced modulation code.

  • The majority - logic decoding algorithm for Geometry code is more simply imlemented than the known decoding algorithm for BCH codes. Thus, the moderate code word, Geometry codes provide rather effective error control. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the Reed - Muller code and to design the encoder and decoder circuit and to find the performance for (15, 11) Reed - muller code. Experimental results show that the system has not only single error - correcting ability but also good performance.

  • Convolutional codes which are terminated by direct truncation (DT) and zero tail termination provide unequal error protection. When DT terminated convolutional codes are used to encode short messages, they have interesting error protection properties. Such codes match the significance of the output bits of common quantizers and therefore lead to a low mean square error (MSE) when they are used to encode quantizer outputs which are transmitted via a noisy digital communication system. A code construction method that allows adapting the code to the channel is introduced, which is based on time-varying convolutional codes. We can show by simulations that DT terminated convolutional codes lead to a lower MSE than standard block codes for all channel conditions. Furthermore, we develop an MSE approximation which is based on an upper bound on the error probability per information bit. By means of this MSE approximation, we compare the convolutional codes to linear unequal error protection code construction methods from the literature for code dimensions which are relevant in analog to digital conversion systems. In numerous situations, the DT terminated convolutional codes have the lowest MSE among all codes.

  • The paper deals with repeated low-density burst error detecting codes with a specied weight or less. Linear codes capable of detecting such errors have been studied. Further codes capable of correcting and simultaneously detecting such errors have also been dealt with. The paper obtains lower and upper bounds on the number of parity-check digits required for such codes. An example of such a code has also been provided.

  • A novel steganographic QR code algorithm, which not only coveys the secret into the widely-used QR barcode but also preserves the readability of QR content and the capability of error correction, is presented in this article. Different from the conventional applications for QR barcode, the designed algorithm conceals the secret into the QR modules directly by exploiting the error correction capability. General browsers can read the QR content from the QR code via barcode readers; however, only the authorized receiver can further reveal the secret from the QR code directly. The new mechanism can convey a larger secret payload along with adjustment of the QR version and error correction level. Moreover, the blind property allows the receiver to reveal the secret without the knowledge of the embedded position of modules. Experimental results demonstrate that the new algorithm is secure, efficient and feasible for the low-power QR readers and mobile devices.

  • In tnis paper, the CRC-CCITT code and primitive polynomial CRC code are selected for analysing error detecting performance. However, general formulas for obtaining the weight distribution of these two CRC codes are not so far dericed. So, a new method for calculating the weight distribution of the shortened cyclic Hamming code is presented and an undetected error probability of these two codes is obtained when used in cell of ATM for broadband ISDN user-network interface. Consequently, we show that CRC code too much does affect its error detection performance. All the computer simulation is performed by IBM PC/AT.

  • In this paper, a concatenated RS and Turbo code is proposed for OFDM system over burst error channel. The concatenated code used in this study is a RS(255,2D2) code and a rate 1/2 turbo code. The turbo code uses 2 recursive systematic convolutional (RSC) code as the constituent codes and the parity bit are punctured to get the desired code rate. It is shown by simulation that the conventional OFDM system fails when there exists burst noise. The concatenated RS and turbo code obtains at least 5dB gain over the turbo code at the bit error probability of $10^{-3}$.

  • The cyclic redundancy check(CRC) code used to decide retransmission request in hybrid automatic repeat request(HRAQ) system can also be used to stop iterative decoding of turbo code if it is used as an error correcting code(ECC) of HARQ system. Thus a scheme to use CRC code for both iteration stop and repeat request in the HARQ system with turbo code based on the standard of cdma 2000 system is proposed in this paper. At first, the optimum CRC code which has the minimum length without performance degradation due to undetected errors is found. And the most appropriate turbo encoder structure is also suggested. As results, it is shown that at least 32-bit CRC code should be used and a turbo code with 3 constituent encoders is considered to be the most appropriate one.
