It has become apparent from the recent work by Choi et al. [3] on the nonlinear beam deflection problem, that analysis of the integral operator $\mathcal{K}$ arising from the beam deflection equation on linear elastic foundation is important. Motivated by this observation, we perform investigations on the eigenstructure of the linear integral operator $\mathcal{K}_l$ which is a restriction of $\mathcal{K}$ on the finite interval [$-l,l$]. We derive a linear fourth-order boundary value problem which is a necessary and sufficient condition for being an eigenfunction of $\mathcal{K}_l$. Using this equivalent condition, we show that all the nontrivial eigenvalues of $\mathcal{K}l$ are in the interval (0, 1/$k$), where $k$ is the spring constant of the given elastic foundation. This implies that, as a linear operator from $L^2[-l,l]$ to $L^2[-l,l]$, $\mathcal{K}_l$ is positive and contractive in dimension-free context.

The purpose of the present study is to analyze the response of pipelines subjected to liquefaction-induced permanent ground displacement and to discuss the failure prediction of domestic waterway pipelines. Initially here, characteristics of liquefaction are reviewed and then permanent ground displacement is investigated base on previous earthquake hazard cases. Next, considering the distribution of the transverse permanent ground displacement and equivalent spring constant effect, formulas obtained by a beam theory are established to analyze continuous pipelines. This analysis was performed without consideration of axial effects. So the finite element analysis was used in order to consider the axial stiffness of soil. As a result, degree of liquefaction, width of deformed ground and axial stiffness are crucial points for evaluation the failure of pipelines subjected to permanent ground displacement.

This study analyzed air suspension seat frame structure and vibration for 50 - 180 kg mass driver to obtain optimum seat design parameter values for the equivalent spring constant and damping coefficient. Various air suspension seat frames were designed following WTS-003 and KS B 6839 standards, and then evaluated using finite elements analysis. Resonance and vibration tests were performed according to the 78/764/EEC standard.

The modeling of an active vibration isolation system is accomplished by using the equivalent spring constant, mass and rotational Inertia of each component. The detailed model of the actuation module is successful for describing its frequency-domain performance but also too complicated to implement it to actual system for control so that the order of the model is reduced up to the degree that preserves its characteristic in the low frequency range. The reduced model is suitable for identifying the unknown system parameters such as damping constants of components. The overall isolation system is described by using the reduced model of the actuation module. The accurate model ing and system parameter identification that is essential for the control of the active vibration isolation system is attained successfully.
The dynamic performance design of catenary-pantograph system which collects current for the next generation Korean high speed train(KHST) was considered. Used was the same dynamic model of the catenary-pantograph system as that of TGV-K which will be introduced for Kyung-bu corridor. Using the model , sensitivity analysis fer design variables were made to improve dynamic performance of KHST system. The results of sensitivity analysis and performance improvement are as follows: (1) It was found that aerodynamic force, tension of contact wire, mass of contact strip, mass of supporting contact strip, mass of clamp, mass of steady arm, and stiffness of plunger were the design variables most influencing the dynamic performance of the system. (2) Pantograph with reductions of 20% aerodynamic force, 34% weight of supporting contact strip, 20% spring constant of plunger, and 34% equivalent mass of steady arm was very possible system for the KHST which will be running at maximum operating speed 350 km/h.

Three dimensional cutting is considered as an equivalent orthogonal cutting through the plane containing both the cutting velocity vector and the chip flow velocity vector in dynamic cutting process. An analytical expression of dynamic cutting force is obtained from the cutting parameters determined by the static cutting. Particular attention is paid to the energy supplied to the vibratory system of cutting tool with two degree of freedom. In this approach, the phase lag of the horizontal vibration of the tool behind the vertical vibration and the direction angle of the fluctuating cutting force is considered in point of stability limits. Chatter vibration can be effectively suppressed by relatively increasing the spring constant and the damping coefficient of the cutting system in the vertical cutting force direction. A good agreement is found between the stability limits predicted by theoretical value and experimental results.

This paper proposes the development of a low frequency electronic hammer drive system that is used to prevent scaling or clogging in the hopper process. The electro-mechanical hammering driving method involves the generation of vibration and impact energy. The operation principles of the electromagnetic hammer were considered by parallel/series spring coefficient analysis and the amount of kinetic energy generated was calculated from the product of the equivalent spring constant, which is coupled with the E core and the gap of between the E core and I core. In addition, the Pulsation Driving algorithm was applied to the proposed electromagnetic hammer to obtain the maximizing kinetic energy. This algorithm was then implemented by a logical AND operation process and micro-controller (atmega128) built in functions with a timer interrupt and PWM generation function. The driving circuit of the electromagnetic hammer was designed using the H-bridge type IGBT circuit. The experimental test was performed by usefulness of the developed electromagnetic hammer systems with the acceleration measurement method. The experimental result showed that the proposed system has good kinetic energy generation performance and can be applied to the hopper process.

In this study, static and dynamic transient analysis of tracked vehicle structure with recoil impact load is performed for transient impact and traveling load using ANSYS and ABAQUS FEM codes. When transient impact loads are applied at tracked vehicle, the maximum dynamic Von Mises stress occurs between beam stiffener of upper plate and race ring and stress level is about 390-450 MPa. The results of transient analysis shows similar level and tendency with static stress with dynamic force effect of 1.6. The excessive stresses occur around the race ring for the both cases. When the traveling loads are applied on the tracked vehicle, the maximum Tresca stress occurs around suspension #1 and is about 450 MPa and results of static and nonlinear transient analysis are quite similar.
In this study, an interactive analysis considering column-pile interaction is performed on the basis of an equivalent base spring model for supplementing virtual fixed point design of bent pile structures. Through this analytical method, the application of the minimum steel reinforcement ratio of the pile (0.4%) is analyzed by taking into account the major influencing parameters. Furthermore, the limit depth for steel reinforcement ratio is proposed through the relationships between column and pile conditions. To obtain the detailed information, it is found that an interactive analysis is intermediate in theoretical accuracy between the virtual fixed point model analysis and full-modeling analysis. Base on this study, it is also found that the maximum bending moment is located within cracking moment of the pile when material nonlinearity is considered. Therefore, the minimum steel reinforcement ratio is appropriately applicable for the optimal design of bent pile structures. Finally, the limit depth for steel reinforcement ratio ($L_{As=x%}$) is proposed by considering the field measured results. It is shown that the normalized limit depth ratio for steel reinforcement ratio ($L_{As=x%}/L_P$) decreases linearly as the length-diameter ratio of pile ($L_P/D_P$) increases, and then converges at a constant value.
