  • Since the end treatments of guardrails installed on domestic roads have the shapes which can easily penetrate and turnover a vehicle, the occupant can be subjected to severe injury when a vehicle impacts the end treatments. In this study, the criteria of performance evaluation for end treatments are suggested which are suitable to domestic road circumstances. Based on the investigation for the installation and studies instances of end treatments, the mechanism of end treatments is examined and the new end treatment suitable to domestic road circumstances is suggested. The suggested end treatment was verified by computer simulation using d LS-DYNA programs and satisfied the suggested performance evaluation criteria for end treatments. And the developed end treatment was verified by full-scale vehicle crash test and satisfied the following three primary appraisal factors of the suggested performance evaluation criteria for end treatments; occupant risk criteria, structural adequacy, and after-collision vehicle trajectory. This study is the first to develop end treatments considering the occupant safety in Korea. Therefore, If the developed end treatments is installed on roads and highways, it can be expected that it will reduce the grave situation of end treatment accidents and increase the safety of roads.

  • This paper presents the development of language tutoring systems for nonnative speakers by leveraging advanced end-to-end automatic speech recognition (ASR) and proficiency evaluation. Given the frequent errors in non-native speech, high-performance spontaneous speech recognition must be applied. Our systems accurately evaluate pronunciation and speaking fluency and provide feedback on errors by relying on precise transcriptions. End-to-end ASR is implemented and enhanced by using diverse non-native speaker speech data for model training. For performance enhancement, we combine semisupervised and transfer learning techniques using labeled and unlabeled speech data. Automatic proficiency evaluation is performed by a model trained to maximize the statistical correlation between the fluency score manually determined by a human expert and a calculated fluency score. We developed an English tutoring system for Korean elementary students called EBS AI Peng-Talk and a Korean tutoring system for foreigners called KSI Korean AI Tutor. Both systems were deployed by South Korean government agencies.

  • In this paper, we compare the QoS performance enhancement schemes according to the network architecture of mobile WiMAX system in order to improve the end-to-end QoS performance and propose QoS parameter mapping method and IP packet scheduling algorithm. To evaluate the end-to-end QoS performance, we implemented an end-to-end simulator of mobile WiMAX system using OPNET. Simulation results show that the proposed QoS parameter mapping scheme reduces the average delay of VoIP packet and improves uplink resource efficiency. And also, when the proposed IP packet scheduling algorithm is applied to the system, the end-to-end packet transmission delay of VoIP service can be reduced by 44-67 percent compared to FIFO and WRR scheduler.

  • Multi-hop wireless networks has become common phenomenon according to a development of wireless communications and an increase of usage of wireless link. ARQ is one of the common protocols in link layer and can improve a link performance recovering packet loss in wireless link. However, ARQ cannot sufficient to assure a end-to-end performance because ARQ only manages the ARQ's own link. In this paper, we propose a new retransmission persistence for ARQ in multi-hop wireless network to satisfy the end-to-end performance. The proposed scheme can aware a bottleneck link according to the exchange of link information between ARQs and can support the end-to-end performance by managing a retransmission persistence. OPNET simulator is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme and results show that proposed scheme can improve the end-to-end performance with satisfying a requirement of entire wireless section.

  • The purpose of this study was to discover a conceptual framework and evaluation process of apparel quality by means-end chain theory. The theoretical study was conducted to find out a conceptual framework and build a hypothetical evaluation process model of apparel quality. Apparel quality was perceived associative network called a means-end chain and was evaluated in several stages. A conceptual framework of apparel quality evaluation was organized into hierarchical relationships among four different dimensions: physical attribute, physical function, instrumental performance, and expressive performance. The means-end structure linked tangible physical attributes and function to more abstract instrumental and expressive performance. A hypothetical evaluation process model linked dimensions of apparel quality to the selected means-end relationship. Different consumers had different means-end chains for the same apparel. Therefore different subjects are likely to have different evaluation paths. From this study we can suggest an evaluation process model of apparel quality.

  • High performance net재rking is one of key factors to provide support for data intensive applications in the Internet. Extended frame size has a major impact on end to-end performance with increasing effective TCP throughput and decreasing system overhead. Most of the research about extended frames has focused on local area network performance and the impact that extended frame size has on the system elements including memory, network interface card and so forth. In the paper, we analyse the effects of the extended frames to the other traffic flows sharing Internet paths for the wide area performance of TCP by conducting various network simulations. Results show that securing available bandwidth in no loss and low delay networks is indispensable to exploit the efficiency of extended frames.

  • In this paper, we investigate the features of scientific remote collaborative applications. The presented features are the high speed disk access, the high speed transportation protocol, and the dedicated light path, which are for the high performance of remote end-to-end collaboration. In the environment that satisfies the features, we achieve 4.7Gbps peak throughput between Korea and U.S.A.

  • A Dead-end mode operation is one of the best way to maximize the gas usage rate. But, some components of fuel cell stack like gas diffusion layer(GDL) or membrane can be damaged in dead-end mode operation. In this study, a Large Scale Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) for a dead-end operation has been developed. The stack is composed with 4 cells which has over 400cm2 of active area. Hydrogen is used as a fuel, and oxygen is used as a oxidant. The dead-end operation performance was evaluated by a long-term dead-end mode operation. The fuel cell stack is operated over 1,500 hours in dead-end mode operating fuel cell test station. And the performance change of the fuel cell stack was investigated.

  • In this paper, end-to-end performances for some VoIP traffics are measured and analyzed over MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Networks) with packet aggregation transmission under blackhole attacks. A VoIP simulator based on NS-2 is used for performance measure. In the simulation, MOS, call connection ratio, network delay and packet loss rate are measured for end-to-end transmission performance. With analysis of measured data, characteristics of each traffics for performance parameters of packet aggregation transmission is showed on MANET under blackhole attack, As a results of this paper, some considerations be required for packet aggregation transmission are suggested to implement VoIP services on MANET under blackhole attacks.

  • Several gateway selection schemes have been proposed that select gateway nodes based on a single Quality of Service (QoS) path parameter, for instance path availability period, link capacity or end-to-end delay, etc. or on multiple non-QoS parameters, for instance the combination of gateway node speed, residual energy, and number of hops, for Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs). Each scheme just focuses on the ment of improve only a single network performance, i.e., network throughput, packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, or packet drop ratio. However, none of these schemes improves the overall network performance because they focus on a single QoS path parameter or on set of non-QoS parameters. To improve the overall network performance, it is necessary to select a gateway with stable path, a path with themaximum residual load capacity and the minimum latency. In this paper, we propose a gateway selection scheme that considers multiple QoS path parameters such as path availability period, available capacity and latency, to select a potential gateway node. We improve the path availability computation accuracy, we introduce a feedback system to updated path dynamics to the traffic source node and we propose an efficient method to propagate QoS parameters in our scheme. Computer simulations show that our gateway selection scheme improves throughput and packet delivery ratio with less per node energy consumption. It also improves the end-to-end delay compared to single QoS path parameter gateway selection schemes. In addition, we simulate the proposed scheme by considering weighting factors to gateway selection parameters and results show that the weighting factors improve the throughput and end-to-end delay compared to the conventional schemes.
