  • This paper presents a technique to control a robot which has a flexible manipulator moving in a vertical plane. The flexible manipulator is modeled as an Euler-Bernoulli beam. Elastic deformation is represented using the assumed modes method. A comparison function which satisfies all geometric and natural boundary conditions of a cantilever beam with an end mass is used as an assumed mode shape. Lagrange's equation is utilized for the development of a discretized model. A control algorithm is developed using a simple PID control technique. The proportional, integral and derivative control gains are determined based on the dominant pole placement method and tuned to show no overshoot and having a short settling time. The effectiveness of the developed control scheme is showed experimentally. In the position control experiment, three different end masses are used. The experimental results shows little overshoot, no steady state error, and less than 2.5 second settling time in case of having an end mass which is equivalent to 45% of the total system weight. Also the residual vibration of the end point is effectively controlled.

  • In this study, the internal development of the Saemangeum basic concept of the changes being promoted as a lead construction and agricultural land works(54.2 km) has established a numerical model for the scenario. Inner dike to the construction site to reflect the following conditions to reproduce the numerical model by each areas during construction inner dike where scour expected to perform a numerical analysis for the hydraulic review by areas with possible future changes were to predict. Simulation results showed that numerical simulation results for scour expected frequency of 100 years in flood conditions is simulated with 0.02 m/s~l.27 m/s scour velocity for high-impact factor is considered to be stable. Each start point and end point work area of inner dike reviewed and flow rate of 100 years flood, the velocity distribution in the influx of a large flow rate of 0.02 m/s~1.68 m/s occur during construction inner dike are not being evaluated as a special issue does not occur will be considered according to the method and order of construction inner dike stability review suggests that the future need to be made.

  • In this paper, an algorithm to compensate the distorted signals due to Current Transformer(CT) saturation is suggested, First, DWT which can be easily realized by filter banks in real-time applications is used to detect a start point and an end point of the saturation. Secondly, For enough Datas those need to use the least-square curve fitting method, the distorted current signal is compensated by the AR(autoregressive) model using the data during the previous healthy section until pick point of Saturation. Thirdly, the least-square curve fitting method is used to restore the distorted section of the secondary current. Finaly, this algorithm had a Hadware test using DSP board(TMS320C32) with Doble test device. DWT has superior detection accuracy and the proposed compensation algorithm which shows very stable features under various levels of remanent flux in the CT core is also satisfactory. And this algorithm is more correct than a previous algorithm which is only using the LSQ fitting method. Also it can be used as a MU involving the compensation function that acquires the second data from CT and PT.

  • Consider a clinical trial in which the main end-point is survival. Suppose after the start of the study an intermediate event occurs which may be influenced by a covariate(or treatment). In many clinical studies the occurrence of an intermediate event may change the survival distribution. This investigation develops two-stage model which, in the first stage, models the effect of covariate on the intermediate event and models the relationship between survival time and covariate as well as the intermediate event. In this paper, the two-stage model is presented in order to model intermediate event and a test based on this model is also provided. A numerical simulations are carried out to evaluate its overall significance level.

  • This Paper Presents a Rational Function Model (RFM)-based image matching technique for IKONOS satellite imagery. This algorithm adopts the object-space approach and reduces the search space within the confined line-shaped area called the Piecewise Matching Line (PLM). Also, the detailed procedure of generating 3-D surface information using the Rational Function model Coefficients (RFCs) is introduced as an end-user point of view. As a result, the final generated Digital Elevation Model (DEM) using the proposed scheme shows a mean error of 2$\cdot$2 m and RMSE of 3$\cdot$8 m compared with that from 1:5000 digital map.

  • This paper attempts to approximate the distribution function for the number of innovation activities (NIA). To this end, the dataset of 2002 Korean Innovation Survey (KIS 2002) published by Science and Technology Policy Institute is used. To deal with zero NTI values given by a considerable number of firms in the KIS 2002 survey, a mixture model of distributions for NIA is applied. The NIA is specified as a mixture of two distributions, one with a point mass at zero and the other with full support on the positive half of the real line. The model was empirically verified for the KIS 2002 data. The mixture model can easily capture the common bimodality feature of the NIA distribution. In addition, when covariates were added to the mixture model, it was found that the probability that a firm has zero NIA significantly varies with some variables.

  • For the evaluation of the capability of a tubular member of an offshore structure to absorb the collision energy, a simple method can be employed for the collision analysis without performing the detailed analysis. The most common simple method is the rigid-plastic method. However, in this method any characteristics for horizontal movement and rotation at the ends of the corresponding tubular member are not included. In a real structural system of an offshore structure, tubular members sustain a certain degree of elastic support from the adjacent structure. End fixity has influences in the behaviors of a tubular member. Three-dimensional FEM analysis can include the effect of end fixity fully, however in viewpoints of the inherent computational complexities of the 3-D approach, this is not the recommendable analysis at the initial design stage. In this paper, influence of end fixity on the behaviors of a tubular member is investigated, through a new approach and other approaches. A new analysis approach that includes the flexibility of the boundary points of the member is developed here. The flexibility at the ends of a tubular element is extracted using the rational reduction of the modeling characteristics. The property reduction is based on the static condensation of the related global stiffness matrix of a model to end nodal points of the tubular element. The load-displacement relation at the collision point of the tubular member with and without the end flexibility is obtained and compared. The new method lies between the rigid-plastic method and the 3-demensional analysis. It is self-evident that the rigid-plastic method gives high strengthening membrane effect of the member during global deformation, resulting in a steeper slope than the present method. On the while, full 3-D analysis gives less strengthening membrane effect on the member, resulting in a slow going load-displacement curve. Comparison of the load-displacement curves by the new approach with those by conventional methods gives the figures of the influence of end fixity on post-yielding behaviors of the relevant tubular member. One of the main contributions of this investigation is the development of an analytical rational procedure to figure out the post-yielding behaviors of a tubular member in offshore structures.

  • There are several potential error sources that can affect the estimation of the position of an object using combined vision and acceleration measurements. Two of the major sources, accelerometer dynamics and random noise in both sensor outputs, are considered. Using a second-order model, the errors introduced by the accelerometer dynamics are reduced by the smaller value of damping ratio and larger value of natural frequency. A Kalman filter approach was developed to minimize the influence of random errors on the position estimate. Experimental results for the end-point movement of a flexible beam confirmed the efficacy of the Kalman filter algorithm.
