  • This paper presents the characteristic of rectangular and octagonal spiral inductor using PGS(Patterned Ground Shield). We investigated variation of inductance and Q-factor with changing of turn number at fixed width, spacing and inner diameter. We confirmed that characteristic of inductance and Q-factor be appled PGS in rectangular and octagonal types spiral inductor by EM simulation tool. Inductance decreased irrespective of structure but Q-factor increased. When PGS not exist, Q-factor of Inductor is analogous at classification frequency but, rectangular is a few larger then octagonal in small turn number. The other side, When PGS is inserted, we confirmed that octagonal lager then rectangular in many turn number. Q-factor is improved in case of octagonal structure and small turn number by PGS effect.

  • Cox's proportional hazards model (PHM) has been widely applied in the analysis of lifetime data, and it can be characterized by the baseline hazard function and covariates influencing systems' lifetime, where the covariates describe operating environments (e.g. temperature, pressure, humidity). In this article, we consider the constant baseline hazard function and a discrete random variable of a covariate. The estimation procedure is developed in a parametric framework when there are not only complete data but also incomplete one. The Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm is employed to handle the incomplete data problem. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the accuracy and some properties of the estimation results.

  • Typical negative group delay circuits (NGDC) are analyzed in terms of signal attenuation, group delay, and bandwidth using S-parameters. By inverting these formulations, we derive and present the design equations (for NGD circuit elements) for a desired specification of the two among the three parameters. The proposed design method is validated through simulation examples for narrow- and wide-band pulse inputs in the time and frequency domains. Moreover, an NGDC composed of lumped elements is fabricated at 1 GHz for measurement. As a function of frequency, the circuit-/EM-simulated and measured group delays are in good agreement. The provided simple NGDC design equations may be useful for many applications that require compensations of some signal delays.

  • This paper demonstrates a systematic approach for the design of broadband, high efficiency, high power, Class-AB RF amplifiers with high gain flatness. It is usually difficult to simultaneously achieve a high gain flatness and high efficiency in a broadband RF power amplifier, especially in a high power design. As a result, the use of a computer-aided simulation is most often the best way to achieve these goals; however, an appropriate initial value and a systematic approach are necessary for the simulation results to rapidly converge. These objectives can be accomplished with a minimum of trial and error through the following techniques. First, signal gain variations are reduced over a wide bandwidth using a proper pre-matching network. Then, the source and load impedances are satisfactorily obtained from small-signal and load-pull simulations, respectively. Finally, two high-order Chebyshev low-pass filters are employed to provide optimum input and output impedance matching networks over a bandwidth of 100 MHz-500 MHz. By using an EM simulation for the substrate, the simulation results were observed to be in close agreement with the measured results.

  • In this paper, we propose an equivalent model of array antennas that use open-ended waveguides for effective EM simulation. We first investigate an individual element that consists of an open-ended waveguide and square ground plane. The waveguide length, aperture size, and ground size of the individual element are adjusted to give a similar radiation pattern to that of the individual element of the original antenna. We then apply the designed equivalent model to two different types of array antennas, such as a microstrip patch array and a waveguide array antenna. Comparison of the simulation results using the equivalent model with the results obtained with the original antenna reveals a difference in gain of less than 0.2 dB and a difference in half power beam width(HPBW) of less than $1^{\circ}$. The designed equivalent model is then mounted on a simple aircraft, and the simulation results are again compared to results from the original antenna. We find a 60 % reduction in simulation resources and time when compared with the original antenna model.

  • With the miniaturization and digitalization of electronics industry, demand for Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor(MLCC) has increased steadily because of its various applications such as DC Blocking, Decoupling and Filtering etc. The modeling techniques of MLCC has been studied for a long time but most of these modeling method can only be applied after measurement and this has some losses of material, time in both production stage and measurement stage. This paper proposes the modeling method which can predict the frequency characteristics of MLCC from structure data and material data in design stage. The impedance of N-Layer Capacitor can be expressed in differential mathematical form based on coupled transmission line equations. By using this formula, we can predict the impedance of MLCC. As a result, proposed modeling is correspond with simulation, and it takes much less time to obtain the result than the simulation.

  • In predicting an outcome of election using a variety of methods ahead of the election, non-response is one of the major issues. Therefore, to address the non-response issue, a variety of methods of non-response imputation may be employed, but the result of forecasting tend to vary according to methods. In this study, in order to improve electoral forecasts, we studied a model based method of non-response imputation attempting to apply the Monte Carlo Expectation Maximization (MCEM) algorithm, introduced by Wei and Tanner (1990). The MCEM algorithm using maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) is applied to solve the boundary solution problem under the non-ignorable non-response mechanism. We performed the simulation studies to compare estimation performance among MCEM, maximum likelihood estimation, and Bayesian estimation method. The results of simulation studies showed that MCEM method can be a reasonable candidate for non-response model estimation. We also applied MCEM method to the Korean presidential election exit poll data of 2012 and investigated prediction performance using modified within precinct error (MWPE) criterion (Bautista et al., 2007).

  • In this paper, a design and fabrication of 40 W power amplifier for the X-band using load-pull measurement of GaN HEMT chip are presented. The adopted active device for power amplifier is GaN HEMT chip of TriQuint company, which is recently released. Pre-matched fixtures are designed in test jig, because the impedance range of load-pull tuner is limited at measuring frequency. Essentially required 2-port S-parameters of the fixtures for extraction optimal input and output impedances is obtained by the presented newly method. The method is verified in comparison of the extracted optimal impedances with data sheet. The impedance matching circuit for power amplifier is designed based on EM co-simulation using the optimal impedances. The fabricated power amplifier with 15${\times}$17.8 $mm^2$ shows the efficiency above 35 %, the power gain of 8.7~8.3 dB and the output power of 46.7~46.3 dBm at 9~9.5 GHz with pulsed-driving width of 10 usec and duty of 10 %.

  • The HEMP threat may have acquired new, and urgent, relevance as the proliferation of nuclear weapons and missile technology accelerates of the North Korea, for example, is assessed as already having developed few atomic weapons, and is on the verge of North Korea already has missiles capable of delivering a nuclear warhead against South Korea. ITU K.78, K81 and IEC recommended its counter-measuring for the industrial facilities with navigation and sailing facilities in order to obviate the all of processor equipped system malfunctions from the EMP/HEMP but its simulation must only be done by the computer simulation which had studied on the 1960-1990 years USA/AFWL papers. This result has a significant activities to the South Korea being under the North Korea threat because all of HEMP related products was strongly limited for export. The HEMP cord which was developed newly by the KTI including the HEMP generation & propagation analysis, optimal shelter design tool, essential EM energy attenuation in multi-layered various soils and rocks and HEMP filter design tool. Especially, the least square fitting method was adopted to analysis for the EM energy attenuation in the soils and rocks because it has a various characteristics based on the many times field test reports.

  • Objectives : This study was conducted to propose a new transmission/disequilibrium test(TDT) to test the linkage between genetic markers and disease-susceptibility genes based on haplotypes. Simulation studies were performed to compare the proposed method with that of Zhao et al. in terms of type I error probability and powers. Methods : We estimated the haplotype frequencies using the expectation-maximization(EM) algorithm with parents genotypes taken from a trio dataset, and then constructed a two-way contingency table containing estimated frequencies to all possible pairs of parents haplotypes. We proposed a score test based on differences between column marginals and their corresponding row marginals. The test also involved a covariance structure of marginal differences and their variances. In simulation, we considered a coalescent model with three genetic markers of biallele to investigate the performance of the proposed test under six different configurations. Results : The haplotype-based TDT statistics, our test and Zhao et al.'s test satisfied a type I error probability, but the TDT test based on single locus showed a conservative trend. As expected, the tests based on haplotypes also had better powers than those based on single locus. Our test and that of Zhao et al. were comparable in powers. Conclusion : We proposed a TDT statistic based on haplotypes and showed through simulations that our test was more powerful than the single locus-based test. We will extend our method to multiplex data with affected and/or unaffected sibling(s) or simplex data having only one parent s genotype.
