In this study, tensile tests for 12-${\mu}m$-thick copper thin foils were performed by using the DIC method. The DIC method provided precise stress-strain curves for thin film materials, and a commercial inkjet printer can be simply and effectively used for printing speckle patterns on the specimen of Cu thin films whose surface contrast is too low to apply the DIC method. The mechanical properties of Cu thin foils obtained in this study are as follows: elastic modulus E = 89.2 GPa, 0.2% offset yield stress $S_{0.2%}$= 232.8 MPa, tensile strength $S_u$= 319.2 MPa, elongation at fracture ${\varepsilon}_f$=16.8 %, and Poisson's ratio ${\nu}$= 0.34.

Barnyard grasses are dominant weed that are not eliminated easily in the direct water seeding cultivation. So, deep water treatment can reduce their growth at the early growing stage of submerged paddy. This study was carried out to investigate the reducing growth of the barnyard grasses through flooding at seedling stages of rice plant in the green house. Under the normal condition, the plant height of rice variety, Samgwangbyeo, and 3 species of barnyard grass, E. caudata, E. pratocola and E. utilis were not showed the difference up to 10 days after seeding while the plant height of 3 barnyard grass species, especially E. utilis, was more elongated than the rice at 25 days after seeding. Plant height of the 3 barnyard grasses were not elongated largely during 3, 5 and 7 days of flooding treatment at 10 days after seeding. Interestingly, the rice seedlings was grown over 20 cm, and the flooding tolerance of rice seedling was higher than the 3 barnyard grass varieties. However, after flooding treatment for 3, 5 and 7 days, the elongation of plant height of 3 barnyard grasses, especially E. utilis was more speedy compared to rice seedlings as 6 to 9 days passes. And the protein spots from barnyard grasses were also reduced and eliminated more than the spots of rice seedling after flooding treatment.
The physical properties of graft polymerized silk fibre were investigated with various vinyl monomers. 1. The graft polymerization of styrene and methyl methacrylate onto raw silk reduced the tenacity and elongation of raw silk due to fixation of sericin covering silk fibre in, but the styrene grafting was more effective for sericin fixation of raw silk than the methyl methacrylate one. 2. The water absorbability of glycidyl methacrylate grafted silk increased 14.6% greater than that of methyl methacrylate grafted silk at the same degree of grafting polymerization. 3. The degree of grafting polymerization was increased mostly with ethylene glycol methacrylate. The water absorbability of ethylene glycol methacrylate grafted silk was higher than that of glycidyl methacrylate or ethyl acrylate grafted silk. But the grafted silk fabric increased the fabric flexural rigidity which was negatively related with the favorability of fabric hand-touch, as compared with that of nongrafted silk fabric. 4. The evenness of graft polymerization could be improved by agitating the polymerization bath at the fixed interval by reducing the inter size deviation of grafted silk skein and the thickness deviation of grafted silk fabric.
The morphology and mechanical properties of epoxy/polyamide/MPD/2E4MZ-CN reactive blends with various amount of catalyst were investigated. The cure behaviors, mechanical strengths, and morphological changes of the epoxy blend systems were analyzed by using DSC, UTM, and SEM, respectively. The amount of catalyst ranged from 0 to 3 phr, and the cure reaction occurred at $170^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. The maximum peaks in heat flow during cure reactions appeared at slightly lower temperature with increasing catalyst content, indicating that the cure reactions start at lower temperature by adding catalyst and polyamide rarely hinders the cure reaction paths. The co-continuous morphology was found in epoxy/polyamide(20 phr) blends and by adding catalyst to the blends much clearer and uniform co-continuous phase was observed. The surface tension of the mechanical test specimen was increased due to the AP plasma surface treatment, and then adhesion strength was increased by over 20% by adding 2 phr of catalyst to the blends. When considering morphological tuning of the blends by means of catalyst incorporation, it is expected that the increased elongation and adhesion strength can be achieved in the structural adhesive systems.

The objective of the present study was to identify differences in the expression levels of liver proteins between healthy and ketotic cows, establish a liver metabolic interrelationship of ketosis and elucidate the metabolic characteristics of the liver during ketosis. Liver samples from 8 healthy multiparous Hostein cows and 8 ketotic cows were pooled by health status and the proteins were separated by two-dimensional-electrophoresis (2D-E). Statistical analysis of gels was performed using PDQuest software 8.0. The differences in the expression levels of liver proteins (p<0.05) between ketotic and healthy cows were identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF-TOF) tandem mass spectrometry. Five enzymes/proteins were identified as being differentially expressed in the livers of ketotic cows: expression of 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase type-2 (HCDH), acetyl-coenzyme A acetyltransferase 2 (ACAT) and elongation factor Tu (EF-Tu) were down-regulated, whereas that of alpha-enolase and creatine kinase were up-regulated. On the basis of this evidence, it could be presumed that the decreased expression of HCDH, which is caused by high concentrations of acetyl-CoA in hepatic cells, in the livers of ketotic cows, implies reduced fatty acid ??oxidation. The resultant high concentrations of acetyl-CoA and acetoacetyl CoA would depress the level of ACAT and generate more ??hydroxybutyric acid; high concentrations of acetyl-CoA would also accelerate the Krebs Cycle and produce more ATP, which is stored as phosphocreatine, as a consequence of increased expression of creatine kinase. The low expression level of elongation factor Tu in the livers of ketotic cows indicates decreased levels of protein synthesis due to the limited availability of amino acids, because the most glucogenic amino acids sustain the glyconeogenesis pathway; thus increasing the level of alpha-enolase. Decreased protein synthesis also promotes the conversion of amino acids to oxaloacetate, which drives the Krebs Cycle under conditions of high levels of acetyl-CoA. It is concluded that the livers of ketotic cows possess high concentrations of acetyl-CoA, which through negative feedback inhibited fatty acid oxidation; show decreased fatty acid oxidation, ketogenesis and protein synthesis; and increased gluconeogenesis and energy production.

To study the effects of plasticizer concentration and its ratio on the physical properties of silk fibroin films, polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used at 4 different concentrations; 1, 2, 3, $4.5\%$ (w/v). Tensile strength (TS) and water vapor permeability (WVP) increased with the increase of PEG concentration, while opposite trend was observed for percent elongation of silk fibroin films. WVP of silk fibroin films increased from $2.54\;ng{\cdot}m/m^2spa$ for $1\%$ of PEG to $5.41\;ng{\cdot}m/m^2sPa$ for $4.5\%$. In addition, a mixture of PEG and glycerol (Gly) as a plasticizer was used at the ratio of 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, and 0:100 (w/w). Percent elongation of the films was improved to $130.95\%$ when the ratio of 75:25 was used. On the contrary, WVP of silk fibroin films increased with the decrease of the ratio of PEG:Gly. Effect of the plasticizer concentration and its ratio on the color of silk fibroin films was negligible. These results suggest that mixture of PEG and Gly as a plasticizer provide more flexible than PEG alone in silk fibroin films, and the best ratio of PEG to Gly was 75:25.

In this study, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) were synthesized using three distinct zinc salts: zinc acetate, zinc chloride, and zinc nitrate. These ZnONPs were subsequently utilized in the fabrication of carrageenan-ZnONPs (Car-ZnONPs) composite films. The study assessed influence of the various ZnONPs on the morphological, water vapor barrier, color, optical, and antimicrobial properties of the Car-ZnONPs composite films. The surface morphology and UV-blocking attributes of the composite films were affected by the type of ZnONPs used, but their surface color, transparency, and chemical structure remained unaltered. The composite film's thickness and elongation at break (EB) significantly increased, while the tensile strength significantly decreased. In contrast, film's elastic modulus (EM) and water vapor permeability coefficient (WVP) showed no significant difference. All the composite films with added ZnONPs demonstrated potent antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes . Among the carrageenan-based composite films, Car-ZnONPsZC showed the highest antibacterial and UV-blocking properties, and its elongation at break was significantly higher than that of the pure carrageenan films. This suggests that ZnONPs composite films have the potential to be used as an active packaging film, preserve the safety of the packaged food and extend shelf life.

This study conducted tensile tests on SA508 Gr.1a low alloy steel and SA312 TP316 stainless steel piping materials under various strain rates at room temperature (RT) and $316^{\circ}C$ to investigate the effects of loading rate on the deformation behavior of nuclear piping materials. At RT, the deformation behavior for both pipe materials showed a typical loading rate dependence, i.e., the strength increased and the ductility decreased as the loading rate increased. At $316^{\circ}C$, however, the strength and elongation of SA508 Gr.1a low alloy steel decreased as the loading rate increased, and its reduction of area non-linearly varied with the loading rate. For SA312 TP316 stainless steel, the strength, elongation, and reduction of area at $316^{\circ}C$ were almost the same regardless of the loading rate. At both temperatures, the strain hardening capacity was nearly independent of the loading rate for SA508 Gr.1a low alloy steel, while it decreased with increasing loading rate for SA312 TP316 stainless steel.
The experiment on sprouting and emergence properties of Eleocharis kuroguwai was conducted at laboratory and greenhouse conditions in 1993. Most of tubers had the apical dominance of buds at sprouting and had the competitive relationship for mesocotyl elongation. When pyrazosulfuron was applied on soil surface, all of apical buds were killed, but the first and second lateral buds survived to 50% and 90%, respectively, and the third lateral buds were almost at presprouted state. The tubers at 10-15cm deep soil emerged 1 week late and 35% low in emergence rate compared with the tubers at 2-5cm deep. As the plants emerged from the deep soil, the mesocotyl and the roots were distributed at deep soil more or less. Among the tubers buried at 10cm and 15cm deep soil, 25% and 30% respectively were not emergerd due to the suspension of mesocotyl elongation. Although the roots and shoots were removed from the tubers at the stage of 20cm high, all of mother tubers emerged again even 2 weeks late.
Whey powder, a by-product of milk industry, was utilized to produce biopolymer film with the combination of film matrix supporting material, sodium caseinate. Biopolymer films were prepared from whey powder-sodium caseinate mixtures at several mixing ratios. The effects of pH, plasticizers and cross-linkers on tensile strength (TS) and elongation (E) of films were investigated. The films could be formed by use of whey powder up to 70%. As the whey powder content was increased, TS of the film decreased while E increased. Films containing more than 70% of whey powder could not be formed due to the stickiness of lactose in whey powder. The optimum pH of the film solution was found to be 10. Among the plasticizers tested, sorbitol was found to be the most effective plasticizer while glycerol was inadequate for the film. Tensile strengths of films containing $30{\sim}40%$ whey powder were higher than 10 MPa with relatively high E, when the films were plasticized with 30% (w/w) and 40% sorbitol. TSs of the relatively weak films containing $50{\sim}60%$ whey powders were improved by the addition of small amount of sodium citrate for 30% sorbitol plasticized films, and by the addition of sodium chloride for 40% sorbitol plasticized films. It was concluded that up to 70% of whey powder could be utilized to produce biopolymer films by adding sorbitol and cross linkers at pH 10.
