The purpose of this study is to investigate how $3^{rd}$ and $4^{th}$ grade elementary students view about 'Science story', which is recently inserted in the new version of science text books. For the study, four hundred $4^{th}$ graders at four schools were considered in the area of Cheonan city, Chungnam province. The degree of student's preference, preferable science topics from the 'Science story', the reason for their preference, and their attitudes toward general science were examined. The study was initiated after student's reading of the 'Science story' (Advanced science, Science in the life, Science in the history, and Future science directions). The student attitudes toward general science were examined using questionnaire survey prior to others. The results of the study are summarized: First, the students who have more interests and affirmative attitudes about science subjects with high scores are more favored about 'Science story'. Second, generally the students prefer reading topics in the order of 1) Science in the life, 2) Advanced science, 3) Science in the history, and 4) Future science directions. However the order was flexible depending on student's gender, preference, and attitudes. Third, the student's interests about 'Science story' was mostly raised from the new scientific topics in the book. And it was also raised partly from their personal interests and usefulness for science learning. Based on the results of our study, we included some suggestions for the improved 'Science story' and their utilizations.

There is no difference in the times of purchasing clothing between uniform group and nonuniform group. 2. Compared with their money earning, uniform wearing group more money in their clothing purchasing nonuniform group paid less money regardless of their earning. 3. There is a significant of laundry practices in nonuniform group compared with uniform group. 4. According to the inquiry of the clothing concept between uniform group and nonuniform group, uniform group showed higher satisfaction with their uniform than nonuniform group with their nonuniform. 5. Uniform group showed high positive view on the uniform, and both groups showed partial positive view on the nonuniform. There was a positive correlation among clothing payment, clothing management behavior, and clothing dynamics of both groups.
The purpose of this study was to develop science and art integrated program to improve the creativity of scientifically gifted elementary school students. This study was to develop science and art integrated program to enhance the creativity of these subjects. This program was consisted of 30 lessons covering 10 topics. It was developed of five stages including the observation stage reflecting the characteristics of the right hemisphere relevant to creativity, the interest and curiosity stage, the experiment design and performing stage, the internalization stage, and the stage of expressing arts. This program was applied to 20 senior gifted students in Y Elementary School in Gyeonggi province. Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking(TTCT) was used in order to investigate and measure the effectiveness of the program before and after its use in class. The results of this study are as follows: First, this program showed results of significant improvement of creativity of scientifically gifted elementary school students after its use in class(p<.05). Second, it was significantly effective in increasing their creativity, especially in the subdomains such as originality, abstractness of title, and territory of resistance on hasty conclusions after its use in class(p<.05). Third, it was significantly effective to increase the Creativity Index that represents creative potential(p<.01). In particular, emotional expression, internalized visualization, unique visualization, and richness of the imagery emerged. This study implies that the science and art integrated program was closely related to the right hemisphere of the features enabling the subjects to create new ideas, new things, and new reactions. In addition, this program is expected to contribute to activate the brain areas of creativity for gifted students in the science field.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between smartphone use, body composition, posture and muscle properties of elementary school students. Methods : A total of 22 healthy elementary school students in Daejeon, South Korea, participated in this study with informed consent. Smartphone use was evaluated with Smartphone addiction self-report scale (S-scale) for youth. Body composition (BMI, percent body fat, body fat mass, and skeletal muscle mass) was measured using Inbody. To assess posture, forward head posture and round shoulder posture were measured using Dartfish motion analysis. Muscle properties (muscle tone, stiffness, and elasticity) were measured on the upper trapezius, splenius capitis and sternocleidomastoid muscles using Myoton. To investigate the correlation between the main variables, Pearson correlation analysis was performed. Results : Disturbance of adaptive function, which is one of sub-component of S-scale, had a weak positive correlations with BMI (r=.538, p<.01), and body fat mass (r=.453, p<.05). However, scores of S-scale showed no correlation with posture and muscle properties. The correlation between posture and muscle properties was analyzed, and round shoulder posture revealed a weak positive correlation with respect to stiffness (r=.418, p<.05) and elasticity (r=.502, p<.05) of the sternocleidomastoid muscle. Conclusion : Scores of S-scale demonstrated a weak correlation with body composition (BMI) among elementary school students, whereas S-scale scores were not correlated with the posture and muscle properties. Further research is needed to identify and focus on potential high-risk user groups of elementary students who are more dependent upon smartphones.
This study investigates inequality of the private educational expenditure using the Family Expenditure Survey of 1990, 1996, 1998, and 2000. As the importance of software education is emphasized, various educations for improve the computational thinking of elementary school students are being provided. However, there are many limitations that apply to the school at preceding studies. because they were invented for specific environment or students. Therefore, in this study, software education was conducted by constructing teaching-learning activities in consideration of the characteristics of students such as teaching aids and level of computational thinking ability, which can influence students based on the contents of textbooks. Through the comparison about computational thinking improvements, this study tried to suggest the direction of effective software education method. As a result, there are differences in computational thinking improvements according to the student's level and used teaching aids. Specifically, visual programming and unplugged type teaching-learning activities were more effective in teaching aids, and according to the level of students, students with low level of computing thinking in pre-inspection showed relatively high improvement. This tendency suggests that it is necessary to consider various learning factors in designing teaching-learning activities in elementary software education.

School Library is both a space and a place. The difference between space and place is the same as in the difference between house and home. Space may be described in terms of physical shape. Place is concept that formulated by personal experience. The social and cognitive developmental stages of elementary, middle and high school students are different, so the placeness or sense of place may be different. The purpose of this study is to figure out the differences in elementary and secondary school student's formative factors of placeness and examine the process that those factors are connected to the results of the user behavioral intentions through the medium of place attachment, place value perception. The data are collected from 590 students and analyzed by SPSS 19 and AMOS 19. The results of this study are as follows. The physical, active behavioral and psychological factors affect on placeness formation of elementary and secondary school students in school libraries. Elementary school students are significantly affected more by physical factors, active behavioral factors than middle and high school students. This study confirmed the process that those factors are connected to the results of the user behavior through the medium of place attachment, place value perception.
This study was to develop and evaluate a nutrition education program to reduce dietary sodium. The school children (218 boys, 226 girls), from 8 elementary schools in the city of Daegu, Korea, were involved in this study. This research was based on the data from two groups of elementary school children, the "education" group (n = 240), and "no-education" group (n = 204). Educational media and programs were developed to educate the education group for four weeks and were presented on the web (www.saltdown.com). After education, the preference for a non-salty taste in the education group increased 10%, compared with those who preferred a non-salty taste before education. There was a significant change away from a preference for a salty taste and a rise in the mean score for nutrition knowledge and dietary attitude in the education group compared to the no-education group (p < 0.05). This study indicates that school children can reduce their dependency on preference for a salty taste and change their high-salt dietary behavior after the education.
