  • The electrochemical deposition of Pt nanoparticles on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) supports and their catalytic activities for methanol electro-oxidation were investigated. Pt catalysts of 4~12 nm average crystalline size were grown on supports by potential cycling methods. Electro-plating of 12 min time by potential cycling method was sufficient to obtain small crystalline size 4.5 nm particles, showing a good electrochemical activity. The catalysts' loading contents were enhanced by increasing the deposition time. The crystalline sizes and morphology of the Pt/support catalysts were evaluated using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The electrochemical behaviors of the Pt/support catalysts were investigated according to their characteristic current-potential curves in a methanol solution. In the result, the electrochemical activity increased with increased plating time, reaching the maximum at 12 min, and then decreased. The enhanced electroactivity for catalysts was correlated to the crystalline size and dispersion state of the catalysts.

  • Electrochemical methods have been proposed as non-destructive, rapid and quantitative means for determining the degree of sensitization associated with Chromium depleted zones surrounding precipitates of Cr carbide and formation of secondary phase in stainless steel. In this study, the specimen of AISI 304 stainless steel and its welded sections, which welded by TIG, MIG, $CO_2$ and ARC, were tested corrosion resistance by electrochemical methods in 0.5N HCl and 1N $H_2SO_4$ with or without 0.01N KSCN. The results were confirmed that electrochemical methods could be used as a test method of corrosion resistance evaluation for the welded AISI 304 stainless steel.

  • We fabricated the monolayers onto QCM by self-assembly using viologen, which has been widely used as electron acceptor. A gold electrode of the QCM was cleaned by piranha solution and prepared the ethanol-acetonitrile(1:1) solution with 2 m mol/l viololgen compounding of pure hi gas. We determined the time dependence to resonant frequency shift during self-assembly process and the electrochemical behavior of the self-assembled viologen monolayers by cyclic voltammetry. With increasing scan rate, the redox peak current of the viologen increased linearly. This was signified that the redox reaction was reversible. The EQCM measurements revealed the anions transfer during redox reactions, respectively. From the EQCM data, the well-defined shape peaks were nearly equal charges by cyclic voltammetry.

  • Transition metal oxide-based electrodes for lithium ion batteries have recently attracted much attention because of their high theoretical capacity. Here we report the electrochemical behavior of cobalt oxide nanorods as anodes, prepared by a template-free, one-step electrochemical deposition of cobalt nanorods, followed by an oxidation process. The as-deposited cobalt has a slightly convex columnar structure, and controlled thermal oxidation produces cobalt oxides of different Co/O ratios, while the original shape is largely preserved. As an anode in a rechargeable lithium battery, the Co/O ratio has a strong effect on initial capacity and cycling stability. In particular, the one-dimensional Co@CoxOy core shell structure obtained from a mild heat-treatment results in superior cycling stability.

  • Combination of SDB(Si-wafer Direct Bonding) and electrochemical etch-stop in TMAH anisotropic etchant can be used to create a variety of MEMS(Micro Electro Mechanical System). Especially, fabrication of SDB SOI structures using electrochemical etch-stop is accurate method to fabrication of 3D(three-dimensional) microstructures. This paper describes on the fabrication of SDB SOI structures with sealed cavity for MEMS applications and thickness control of active layer on the SDB SOI structure by electrochemical etch-stop. The flatness of fabricated SDB SOI structure is very uniform and can be improved by addition of TMAH to IPA and pyrazine.

  • The effect of mixing ratio on the corrosion protection of carbon steel coated by a film composed of poly(vinylidene) fluoride (PVDF) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was examined using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Surface crystallization behavior and thermal properties of the PVDF/PMMA coated carbon steel were evaluated using polarized optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry, respectively. A Maltese cross-pattern spherulite crystal was observed in the PVDF/PMMA coating film, which became more apparent with increasing PVDF content. The highest corrosion protection performance was achieved with 60 wt.% PVDF-coated carbon steel, and delamination and corrosion reactions were observed for 20 wt.% PVDF-coated carbon steel. Further, corrosion protection performance with an amorphous/crystal mixture (PVDF/PMMA, 60/40 (w/w)) was better than those observed in the amorphous domain and the perfect-crystal domain of the PVDF/PMMA blended coating system.

  • In this paper, micro structuring technique using localized electrochemical deposition (LECD) with ultra short pulses was investigated. Electric field in electrochemical cell was localized near the tool tip end region by applying pulses of a few hundreds of nano second duration, Pt-Ir tip was used as a counter electrode and copper was deposited on the copper substrate in mixed electrolyte of 0.5 M $CuSO_4$ and 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$, The effectiveness of this technique was verified by comparison with ECD using DC voltage. The deposition characteristics such as size, shape, surface, and structural density according to applied voltage and pulse duration were investigated. The proper condition was selected based on the results of the various experiments. Micro columns less than $10{\mu}m$ in diameter were fabricated using this technique. The real 3D micro structures such as micro spring and micro pattern were made by the presented method.

  • A NiCo-metal organic framework (MOF) electrode, prepared using urea as a surfactant, was synthesized using a one-pot hydrothermal method. The addition of urea to the NiCo-MOF creates interstitial voids and an ultra-thin nanostructure in the NiCo-MOF, which improves its charge transfer performance. We obtained the optimal metal to surfactant ratio to achieve the best specific capacitance. The NiCo-MOF was employed as the working electrode material in a three-electrode system. Field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy were employed to characterize the microstructures and morphologies of the composites. Cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy curves were employed to quantify the electrochemical properties of the electrodes in a 6 M KOH electrolyte.

  • Hydrogen peroxide is a radiolysis product of water formed under gamma-irradiation; therefore, its reliable detection is crucial in the nuclear industry for spent fuel management and coolant chemistry. This study proposes an electrochemical sensor for hydrogen peroxide detection. Cysteamine (CYST), gold nanoparticles (GNPs), and horseradish peroxidase (HRP) were used in the modification of a gold electrode for fabricating Au/CYST/GNP/HRP sensor. Each modification step of the electrode was investigated through electrochemical and physical methods. The sensor exhibited strong sensitivity and stability for the detection and measurement of hydrogen peroxide with a linear range of 1-9 mM. In addition, the Michaelis-Menten kinetic equation was applied to predict the reaction curve, and a quantitative method to define the dynamic range is suggested. The sensor is highly sensitive to H2O2 and can be applied as an electrochemical H2O2-sensor in the nuclear industry.

  • A novel and convenient electrochemical method has been developed for sensitive determination of melamine (MEL) using ascorbic acid (AA) as the recognition element. The working electrode employed in this method was modified with the nanocomposite of hydroxyapatite/carbon nanotubes to enhance the current signal of recognition element. The interaction between MEL and AA was investigated by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry, and the experimental results indicated that hydrogen bonding was formed between MEL and AA. Because of the existing hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interaction, the anodic peak current of AA was decreased obviously while the non-electroactive MEL added in. It illustrated that the MEL acted as an inhibitor to the oxidation of AA and the decreasing signals can be used to detect MEL. Under the optimal conditions, the decrease in anodic peak current of AA was proportional to the MEL concentrations ranging from 10 to 350 nM, with a detection limit of 1.5 nM. Finally this newly-proposed method was successfully employed to detect MEL in infant formula and milk, and good recovery was achieved.
