  • In this paper, a model pole transformer was designed to improve the reliability of pole transformers and its short circuit withstand strength was tested. The failure causes of the pole transformers which had been operated in the field were analyzed and several patterns of the causes were determined. A novel countermeasure was devised to prevent the failures of the pole transformers in advance. A model pole transformer was designed and made in accordance with the given specifications to strengthen the short circuit withstand capability and its characteristic was tested. As a result, the advanced performance of the model pole transformer was confirmed and novel techniques in manufacturing process was suggested. It is considered that all the methods employed in the developing process will be helpful to design and manufacture the pole transformers thus the reliability of pole transformers in distribution lines will be improved.

  • The pole interaction of the line-commutated converter high-voltage direct current (HVDC) is analyzed, and a practical solution that uses a surge arrester is proposed. Jeju HVDC No. 2 is a double-monopole HVDC link that has a rated power capacity of 2 × 200 MW and was commissioned in 2012. During normal operation, Jeju HVDC No. 2 is operated in the bipolar mode to minimize the loss caused by the dedicated metallic return. However, when one pole of the inverter valve is bypassed, a commutation failure can occur in the other pole. This phenomenon is called pole interaction in this work. This pole interaction interrupts the HVDC power transfer for almost 2 s and may affect the stability of the power system. This research proposes the installation of a surge arrester at the inverter neutral, which can be an effective and practical solution for pole interaction. The HVDC system is analyzed, and the residual voltage of the surge arrester is determined. Detailed simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC demonstrates that the proposed method eliminates the pole interaction of the bipolar-operated HVDC.

  • In this paper, we propose a new stability criterion and a controller design method for switched linear systems. The proposed stability criterion is applicable to each subsystem independently without the need to consider the overall system. The controller can be easily designed through geometric relations between eigenvalues of each subsystem matrix. The proposed methods provide a systematic and simple pole assignment approach for switched linear systems. Illustrative examples are given.

Design of New Type Universal Motor Using Soft Magnetic Composites

  • This paper presents a new structure for the universal motor using soft magnetic composite (SMC). The stator for this new type of motor is made by combination of the SMC pole and the silicon steel yoke. The shape of the 3D SMC pole is designed to minimize ohmic loss and amount of stator coil. To design the pole shape, the 3D analysis in the design procedure is replaced with an equivalent 2D analysis. Finally, the optimal shape is analyzed by 3D FEM and the performance is discussed.

A Study on the Detent Torque Reduction of Claw Pole Permanent Magnet Type Motor

  • This paper has done a three-dimensional FEM analysis of the PM claw pole stepping motor. As magnetization happens in the z-axis, which does not have a constant value, three-dimensional FEM analysis is necessary for characteristic analysis of PM claw pole stepping motors. Because it is a type of permanent magnet motor, the PM claw pole stepping motor naturally has a detent torque. This torque is known to show negative effects on motor performance. To improve motor performance, reducing the detent torque is very important during the motor design. This paper applied DOE for optimization of stator pole design of the motor. Also, we compared motor performance by applying a different type of rotor shape, dividing the permanent magnet. To verify the simulation results, an experiment was done.

  • In this study, the ellipsoidal cap type magnetic pole structure was proposed for the electro-magnet in B-H curve tracer. From the simulation for the electro-magnet without specimen, the area of effective uniform field(99% range for the central field value) was considerably increased in case of the newly proposed ellipsoidal cap type magnetic pole than that of the conventional simple-inclined cap type magnetic pole. Also, through the simulation for the electro-magnet with permanent magnet specimen(NaFe30), the optimal Positions of the magnetic field measurement sensor(Hall sensor) were found out in each case and the errors were decreased in case of the newly proposed ellipsoidal cap type magnetic pole.

  • The main advantages of Disk type Single-Phase Switched Reluctance Motor (DSPSRM) is the simple construction, rugged structure, low manufacturing cost and simple driving circuit. It is especially possible to make the short axial length of DSPSRM. Therefore, it is suitable to setup this motor in a narrow space. This paper presents the shape design to maximize the average torque of DSPSRM that is achieved by 3D Finite Element Method (3D FEM) considering the nonlinear of magnetic material. The characteristics of two different rotor shapes are compared. The design parameters, such as the rotor and stator pole arc, are selected to the parametric study. The effect of pole arc ratios on the torque performance is investigated. From these results, the optimal pole arc to produce the maximum torque is determined.

  • Due to its simple construction, operation steadiness and low cost, claw pole step motor is widely used for OA machine and automobile. This paper deals with analysis fo claw pole motor, especially eyeing to dynamic characteristics. To analyze dynamic characteristics of claw pole step motor, torque development in each angular step of rotor are surveyed and torque equation is drived using permeance method. To adopt the airgap MMF, the magnetic equivalent circuit of the motor is introduced. On the base of the magnetic equivalent circuit, the air gap flux equation is derived. To get a optimum design of the motor, the torque characteristic is studied in variation of coil data and remanence value of permanent magnetic material.

불확정성 선형 시스템의 강인 극점 배치 (Robust Pole Assignment of Uncertain Linear Systems)

  • It is well-known that the poles of a system are closely related with the dynamics of the systems, and the pole assignment problem, which locates the poles in the desired regions, in one of the major problem in control theory. Also, it is always possible to assign poles to specific points for exactly known linear systems. But, it is impossible for the uncertain linear systems because of the uncertainties that originate from modeling error, system variations, sensing error and disturbances, so we must consider some regions instead of points. In this paper, we consider both the analysis and the design of robust pole assignment problem of linear system with time-varying uncertainty. The considered uncertainties are the unstructured uncertainty and the structured uncertainty, and the considered region is the circular region. Based on Lyapunov stability theorem and linear matrix inequality(LMI), we first present the analysis result for robust pole assignment, and then we present the design result for robust pole assignment. Finally, we give some numerical examples to show the applicability and usefulness of our presented results.

  • Outdoor insulation of overhead distribution lines with wood, concrete and steel pole has been safety under various environmental conditions including contamination, moisture condensation, rain and lightning overvoltages. In this paper introduce to FRP technology of the power distribution single pole. FRP pole has been used very much as high strength material for insulators because of its high strength and good insulation properties. In addition, FRP pole was made by filament winding method. In a filament winding process, a band of continuous resin-impregnated rovings or monofilaments is wrapped around a rotating mandrel and cured to produce axisymmetric hollow parts.
