The switching frequency of the power electronic devices used in large synchronous motor drives is usually kept low (less than 1 kHz) to reduce the switching losses and to improve the converter power capability. However, this results in a couple of problems, e.g. an increase in the harmonic components of the stator current, and an undesired cross-coupling between the magnetization current component ($i_m$) and the torque component ($i_t$). In this paper, a novel complex matrix model of electrically excited synchronous motors (EESM) was established with a new control scheme for coping with the low switching frequency issues. First, a hybrid observer was proposed to identify the instantaneous fundamental component of the stator current, which results in an obvious reduction of both the total harmonic distortion (THD) and the low order harmonics. Then, a novel complex current controller was designed to realize the decoupling between $i_m$ and $i_t$. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of this novel control system for EESM drives.

We have analyzed the performance of optical matched filters in the fiber-optic code division multiple access (FO-CDMA) system based on optical parallel coupler access encoder (PCAE) and parallel coupler access decoder (PCAD) by experiment. In previous studies, the performance evaluation of the FO-CDMA system using SCAE and SCAD was not sufficiently accurate because they analyzed system performance only considering the first order signals. Since optical SCAE and SCAD intrinsically have high order signals of various patterns as the number of coupler increases, they change auto- and cross-correlation intensities. Thus, it is necessary to investigate properties of the PCAE and PCAD so that we may analyze the exact performance of system. In this paper, it is found that the peak to sidelobe ratio using the PCAE and PCAD increases as $\alpha$ (coupling coefficient) value increases. Also, we found that the proposed PCAE and PCAD are superior to SCAE and SCAD in performance improvement.
This paper presents the implementation of Power Line Communication(PLC) module which can reduce standby-power consumption. The suggested PLC module consists of PLC modem, coupling circuit, ZCP(Zero-Cross Point) Circuit and main SMPS control relay. The test results under power line communication test-bed used home appliance show the 77% saving of standby-power.
This paper deals with a novel utilization method of the predicted current in the high performance PI current controller with a control time delay. The inevitable error of the predicted current in the linear servo drive using a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor is analyzed and a modified cross-coupling decoupling synchronous frame PI current controller is proposed in order to improve the current control response under the control time delay. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed current controller has an improved current control performance under both the electrical uncertainties of a servo drive system and the control time delay.
Liquid alloy systems have a high degree of thermal conductivity, far superior to ordinary nonmetallic liquids and inherent high densities and electrical conductivities. This results in the use of these materials for specific heat conducting and dissipation applications for the nuclear and space sectors. Uniquely, they can be used to conduct heat and electricity between nonmetallic and metallic surfaces. The motion of liquid metals in strong magnetic fields generally induces electric currents, which, while interacting with the magnetic field, produce electromagnetic forces. Electromagnetic pumps exploit the fact that liquid metals are conducting fluids capable of carrying currents, which is a source of electromagnetic fields useful for pumping and diagnostics. The coupling between the electromagnetics and thermo-fluid mechanical phenomena and the determination of its geometry and electrical configuration, gives rise to complex engineering magnetohydrodynamics problems. The development of tools to model, characterize, design, and build liquid metal thermomagnetic systems for space, nuclear, and industrial applications are of primordial importance and represent a cross-cutting technology that can provide unique design and development capabilities as well as a better understanding of the physics behind the magneto-hydrodynamics of liquid metals. First studies for the development of computational tools for the design of liquid metal electromagnetic pumps are discussed.

In the high speed range for salient type synchronous reluctance motor, the effect of iron loss can not be negligible. In this paper, under he assumption that stator iron loss is generated from the equivalent eddy current in the stator, we derive the voltage equations including iron loss from the model that is added the equivalent iron loss in the equivalent inductance in series. The variation of iron loss is dependent on the increase of the operating frequency change for he worse a performance of the vector control system. As there is cross coupling between the d and q axes, it is hard to apply the vector control to the proposed model. Hence, we propose a decoupling current controller for including the effects of iron loss, And we show that the proposed vector control scheme achieves the desired performances through simulation results.

As one of the core technologies in the field of the optical communication with WDM, the optical cross connector with movements of micro mirrors is getting important day by day. The packaging structure of 2-dimensional NxN MOEMS switch should be determined by the harmonization of the following items such as the geometrical compatability between optical and structural components, the characteristics of optical input and output parts with device, and the electrical performance for the operation of micro mirrors. Therefore, the packaging process could be defined as the integrated technology completed by the optical and electrical science and the material science for the understanding of its thermo-mechanical properties with packaging materials. In the present study, the harmonization between the optical and structural components as well as the optical characteristics of lens system used will be investigated.
This paper uses the switching function approach to present a simple state model of the Vienna-type rectifier. The approach introduces the relationship between the DC-link neutral point voltage and the AC side phase currents. A novel direct power control (DPC) strategy, which is based on the sliding mode control (SMC) for Vienna I rectifiers, is developed using the proposed power model in the stationary ${\alpha}-{\beta}$ reference frames. The SMC-based DPC methodology directly regulates instantaneous active and reactive powers without transforming to a synchronous rotating coordinate reference frame or a tracking phase angle of grid voltage. Moreover, the required rectifier control voltages are directly calculated by utilizing the non-linear SMC scheme. Theoretically, active and reactive power flows are controlled without ripple or cross coupling. Furthermore, the fixed-switching frequency is obtained by employing the simplified space vector modulation (SVM). SVM solves the complicated designing problem of the AC harmonic filter. The simplified SVM is based on the simplification of the space vector diagram of a three-level converter into that of a two-level converter. The dwelling time calculation and switching sequence selection are easily implemented like those in the conventional two-level rectifier. Replacing the current control loops with power control loops simplifies the system design and enhances the transient performance. The simulation models in MATLAB/Simulink and the digital signal processor-controlled 1.5 kW Vienna-type rectifier are used to verify the fast responses and robustness of the proposed control scheme.
This paper presents comparative experimental results of PI sliding mode control and PI control for a heavy duty robot which can handle an object of 600kg, The gains of the PI control was determined by TAE(Trial and Error) method. This paper presents a novel approach for the decoupling of the states cross-coupling using sliding mode control. The sliding mode control methode is based on the error between reference speeds and the actual speed. The proposed method has the advantages of PI control performance and the sliding mode control robustness. Its first step is to design PI controller, then the sliding mode control input term is added to it. This makes actual implementation of the controller easier. The robot and motion controllers were designed and made by author. The good control performance of the heavy duty robot was obtained by using simple algorithm. This means that the robot was designed very well in control respect.

Acousto-optical wavelength tunable optical filters in LiNbO$_3$ have been demonstrated using taperd directional weighted coupling acoustic waveguides and Ti double diffusion technique. Conversion efficiency in excess of 61%, 86% and sidelobe intensity of -14.29㏈, -14.99㏈ were measured at a wavelength of 1551.1nm RF frequency of 173.58MHz and RF power of 35㎽ for both TE and TM input polarizations, respectivelv. A spectral width of ~l.8nm and linear tuning late of 8.6nm/MHz were demonstrated. A 2.82$mutextrm{s}$ switching time has been measured. With two channels with 2.5nmseparation, channel cross-talk was lower than -l4㏈ for single wavelength filtering due to sidelobe.
