In this paper, we analyzed and measured the electrical crosstalk characteristics of a 1.25 Gbps triplexer module for Ethernet passive optical networks to realize fiber-tothe-home services. Electrical crosstalk characteristic of the 1.25 Gbps optical triplexer module on a resistive silicon substrate should be more serious than on a dielectric substrate. Consequently, using the finite element method, we analyze the electrical crosstalk phenomena and propose a silicon substrate structure with a dummy ground line that is the simplest low-crosstalk layout configuration in the 1.25 Gbps optical triplexer module. The triplexer module consists of a laser diode as a transmitter, a digital photodetector as a digital data receiver, and an analog photodetector as a cable television signal receiver. According to IEEE 802.3ah and ITU-T G.983.3, the digital receiver and analog receiver sensitivities have to meet -24 dBm at $BER=10^{-12}$ and -7.7 dBm at 44 dB SNR. The electrical crosstalk levels have to maintain less than -86 dB from DC to 3 GHz. From analysis and measurement results, the proposed silicon substrate structure that contains the dummy line with $100\;{\mu}m$ space from the signal lines and 4 mm separations among the devices satisfies the electrical crosstalk level compared to a simple structure. This proposed structure can be easily implemented with design convenience and greatly reduce the silicon substrate size by about 50 %.
This paper presents a cost effective quasi-resonant soft-switching PWM high frequency inverter with minimum circuit components. This inverter can achieve wider soft commutation, simpler power circuit configuration, smaller volumetric size, lower cost and wider power regulation range, higher-efficiency as compared with single ended quasi-resonant ZVS-PFM inverter and active voltage clamped quasi-resonant ZVS-PWM inverter. The operation principle of the proposed inverter is described on the basis of the simulation and experimental results, together with its operating performances in steady state. The operating performances of this unique proposed high frequency inverter based on ZVS and ZCS arms-related soft commutation principle is evaluated and discussed as compared with the active voltage-clamped ZVS-PWM inverter and a conventional single-ended ZVS-PFM inverter. The practical effectiveness of a novel type quasi-resonant soft-switching PWM high frequency inverter using IGBT is actually proved for consumer induction heated appliances as rice cooker, hot water producer, steamer and super heated steamer. The extended bidirectional circuit topology of quasi-resonant PWM high frequency inverter with minimum circuit components is demonstrated, which operate as the direct frequency changer.
A major advantage of wavefront reconstruction based on a series of diffracted intensity images using only single-beam illumination is the simplicity of setup. Here we propose a fast-converging algorithm for wavefront calculation using single-beam illumination. The captured intensity images are resampled to a series of intensity images, ranging from highest to lowest resampling; each resampled image has half the number of pixels as the previous one. Phase calculation at a lower resolution is used as the initial solution phase at a higher resolution. This corresponds to separately calculating the phase for the lower- and higher-frequency components. Iterations on the low-frequency components do not need to be performed on the higher-frequency components, thus making the convergence of the phase retrieval faster than with the conventional method. The principle is verified by both simulation and optical experiments.
In this paper a novel cascaded transformer multilevel inverter is proposed. Each basic unit of the inverter includes two DC sources, single phase transformers and semiconductor switches. This inverter, which operates as symmetric and asymmetric, can output more number of voltage levels in the same number of the switching devices. Besides, the number of gate driving circuits is reduced, which leads to circuit size reduction and lower power consumption in the driving circuits. Moreover, several methods to determination of transformers turn ratio in proposed inverter are presented. Theoretical analysis, simulation results using MATLAB/SIMULINK and experimental results are provided to verify the operation of the suggested inverter.

In this paper, a real-coefficient approach to Adaptive Frequency Sampling (AFS) technique is developed for efficient equivalent circuit modeling of RF components. This proposed method is advantageous than the vector fitting technique and the conventional AFS method in terms of fewer samples leading to a lower order of a rational function on a given data and to a direct conversion to an equivalent circuit for PSPICE(Personal Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphsis) simulation, respectively. To validate the proposed method, the distributed equivalent circuit of a presented multi-layered RF low-pass filter is obtained using the proposed real-coefficient AFS, and then comparisons with EM simulation and circuit simulation for the device under consideration are achieved.

In this paper a novel converter structure based on cascade converter family is presented. The suggested multilevel advanced cascade converter has benefits such as reduction in number of switches and power losses. Comparison depict that proposed topology has the least number of IGBTs among all multilevel cascade type converters which have been introduced recently. This characteristic causes low cost and small installation area for suggested converter. The number of on state switches in current path is less than conventional topologies and so the output voltage drop and power losses are decreased. Symmetric and asymmetric modes are analyzed and compared with conventional multilevel cascade converter. Simulation and experimental results are presented to illustrate validity, good performance and effectiveness of the proposed configuration. The suggested converter can be applied in medium/high voltage and PV applications.
In this study, the algorithm for detection of evoked potentials is proposed. The observed evoked potentials are first preprocessed by blind identification so as to eliminate the ongoing EEG Bile noise. Then, statistic characteristics of the peak components i.e latency and amplitude are detected from prefiltered responses by latency-corrected averaging method. The performance of blind identification is compared with those of adaptive fillers as to deterministic and stochastic EPs, is assessed in terms of NMSE, distortion index, correlation coefficient with original EPs. The estimated deterministic and stochastic EPs restored with peak components are compared and assessed. The results show the superiority of this proposed algorithm using blind identification in detecting deterministic and stochastic EPs.
In increasing the safety and usage of lithium-ion battery packs, reducing the parameter deviation between cells, such as voltage and temperature within the battery pack, is important. In this study, we propose a screening method to reduce parameter deviation between cells in battery packs. Screening algorithms are constructed based on Fuzzy logic and quantitatively express the similarities between battery cells. Screening is applied by utilizing series resistance components after experiments of electrical characteristics that consider the operation status of battery packs. After screening, the standard deviation of series resistance components according to the similarity ranking is compared and analyzed, and their conformity are verified with the algorithm parameters.
IEC Standards on lightning protection system specify the use of natural components as down conductors. This paper provides an analysis of problems revealed from our field investigation and survey conducted for the relevant experts in the construction site where natural components are used as down conductors. It also considers a suitable condition for installing natural components as down conductors in accordance with the latest version of the standard. As a result, when rebars of reinforced concrete are used as down conductors, vertical bars consisting of rebars of which thickness is not less than D13($127mm^2$) should be connected by welding, clamps or bound joints, using appropriate connection components conforming to IEC Standards. The lashed joints, however, shall not be applied for down conductors.
An effective resolved motion control method of redundant manipulators is proposed to minimize the energy consumption and to increase the dexterity while satisfying the physical actuator constraints. The method employs the neural optimization networks, where the computation of Jacobian matrix is not required. Specifically, end effector movement resulting from each joint differential motion is first separated into orthogonal and tangential components with respect to a given desired trajectory. Then the resolved motion is obtained by neural optimization networks in such a way that 1) linear combination of the orthogonal components should be null 2) linear combination of the tangential components should be the differential length of the desired trajectory, 3) differential joint motion limit is not violated, and 4) weighted sum of the square of each differential joint motion is minimized. Here the weighting factors are controlled by a newly defined joint dexterity measure as the ratio of the tangential and orthogonal components.
