  • The shorted-turn sensor for generator's field winding has been developed. The sensor, installed in the generator air-gap, senses the slot leakage flux of field winding and produces a voltage waveform proportional to the rate of change of the flux. For identification of reliability for sensor, a shorted-turn test was performed at the Seoinchon combined cycle power plant on gas turbine generator. This sensor will be used as a detecting of shorted-turn for generator's field winding.

  • 편광유지 광섬유를 이용한 주파수가 안정화된, 두 개의 서로 수직으로 편광된 종모우드를 갖는 He-Ne레이저 빛을 LoTa $O_{3}$ 위상변조기로 구성된 센서부(sensor head)로 전달해 줌으로써 원격에서 전기장을 측정할 수 있는 hybrid, heterodyne 간섭식 센서를 구성하였다. In/quadrature-phase위상변조풀이 방식을 이용하여 전기광학 효과에 의해 서로 수직으로 편광된 두 모우드 사이에 유도된 위상차이를 측정함으로써 항상 높은 검지율을 유지할 수 있는 전기장 센서를 구성하고, 이를 이용하여 광학 물질에 유도된 복굴절도 측정을 할 수 있었다.

  • With advancements in underwater stealth technology for naval vessels, new sensor configurations for detecting targets have been attracting increased attention. Latest underwater mines adopt multiple sensor configurations that include electric field sensors to detect targets and to help acquire accurate ignition time. An underwater electric field sensor consists of a pair of electrodes, signal processing unit, and preamplifier. For detecting underwater electric fields, the preamplifier requires low-noise amplification at ultra-low frequency bands. In this paper, the specific requirements for low-noise preamplifiers are discussed along with the experimental results of various setups of matched transistors and chopper stabilized operational amplifiers. The results showed that noise characteristics at ultra-low frequency bands were affected significantly by the voltage noise density of the chopper amplifier and the number of matched transistors used for differential amplification. The fabricated preamplifier was operated within normal design parameters, which was verified by testing its gain, phase, and linearity.

시변전계 측정용 평판형 전계센서 (Planar-type Electric Field Sensor for Measuring the Time-varying Electric Fields)

  • This paper deals with the planar-type electric field sensor which can measure the time-varying electric fields. The theoretical principle and design rule of the sensor are introduced, and also the calibration and application investigations are carried out. From the calibration experiments, the frequency bandwidth of the measurement system ranges from 160 [Hz] to 25 [MHz]. At a high voltage laboratory, the electric fields caused by the impulse voltage and oscillating transient voltage are measured by the proposed sensor. Obtained results are well agreement with the applied voltage waveforms.

건설 계측센서의 내구연한 저하원인 및 개선방안 연구 (A Study on the Cause and Improvement Plans of Construction Monitoring Sensors Decline in Durability)

  • 연구목적: 본 연구는 건설 계측센서의 내구연한 저하원인 및 개선방안을 상세히 제시하여 건설구조물의 계측관리 수준향상과 계측센서의 기술발전에 기여하고자 한다. 연구방법: 건설 계측센서의 내구연한 저하원인 및 개선방안에 대하여 건설분야와 전기전자분야로 구분하여 상세한 현황을 조사하고 검토를 실시하였다. 연구결과: 건설분야는 승인 및 검수, 검사 및 시험, 검정 및 교정, 손망실율 최소화 방안 등을 조사 검토하였고, 전기전자분야는 센서패키지 및 실링, 응력집중부위 단선, 낙뢰 및 부식에 의한 손상 등을 조사 검토하였다. 결론: 건설분야와 전기전자분야에서 계측센서의 내구연한 저하원인 및 개선방안을 토대로 건설현장에 적용되는 계측센서의 내구연한이 현재보다 연장될 것으로 기대된다.

  • This paper deals with semisphere-type sensor fo measuring the electric field waveforms by lightning discharges. The theoretical principle and design rule of the device are introduced, and also the calibration and application investigations are carried out. From the calibration experiments, the frequency bandwidth of the semisphere-type electric field measuring device ranges from 200 [Hz] to 1.56 [MHz], and the sensitivity of sensor is 0.96 [mV/V/m]. The electric field waveforms produced by lightning discharges were observed for June and August 1995. It is shown that the electric field waveforms produced at the distance of more than 50 [km] include only radiation component.

Lithium Niobate (LiNbO3) Photonic Electric-Field Sensors

  • This study comprehensively reviewed four types of integrated-optic electric-field sensors based on titanium diffused lithium-niobate waveguides: symmetric and asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometers, 1×2 directional couplers, and Y-fed balanced-bridge Mach-Zehnder interferometers. First, we briefly explain the crystal properties and electro-optic effect of lithium niobate and the waveguide fabrication process. We theoretically analyzed the key parameters and operating principles of each sensor and antennas. We also describe and compare the design, simulation, implementation, and performance tests: dc and ac characteristics, frequency response, dynamic range, and sensitivity. The experimental results revealed that the sensitivity of the sensor based on the Y-fed balanced bridge Mach-Zehnder interferometer (YBB-MZI) was higher than that of the other types of sensors.

Electric Field Energy Harvesting Powered Wireless Sensors for Smart Grid

  • In this paper, a new energy harvesting technology using stray electric field of an electric power line is presented. It is found that energy can be harvested and stored in the storage capacitor that is connected to a cylindrical aluminum foil wrapped around a commercial insulated 220 V power line. The average current flowing into 47 ${\mu}F$ storage capacitor is about 4.53 ${\mu}A$ with 60 cm long cylindrical aluminum foil, and it is possible to operate wireless sensor node to transmit RF data every 42 seconds. The harvested average power is about 47 ${\mu}W$ in this case. Since the energy can be harvested without removing insulating sheath, it is believed that the proposed harvesting technology can be applied to power the sensor nodes in wireless ubiquitous sensor network and smart grid system.

  • In this paper, in order to obtain the statistic information for parameters of electric and magnetic field waveforms associated with lightning discharges, the electric and magnetic fields produced by lightning discharges in the summer of 1995 were measured by a hemisphere-type electric field sensor and a loop-type magnetic field sensor, which were installed at the campus of Inha University in Inchon. The signals of the electric and magnetic fields were continuously recorded by a transient digitizer having a resolution of 12 bit and a memory capacity of 5000 point. Negative lightning discharges are produced very more than positive lightning discharges in the summer of Korea. The 10 to 90 % rise time of electric and magnetic fields was 2 $2\;{\sim}\;10\;{\mu}s$. And the zero-crossing time of electric field was $15\;{\sim}\;25\;{\mu}s$, whereas that of magnetic field was $20\;{\sim}\;30\;{\mu}s$.

휴대용 극저주파 전장측정기 개발 (Development of a Portable ELF Electric Field Meter)

  • 본 논문은 평판형 센서, 아날로그 증폭기, 이득 조성 가능한 A/D 변환기 및 표시장치로 구성되는 휴대용 전장 측정기에 대하여 기술하였다. 극저주파 대역의 시변전장 검출을 위한 센서의 원리를 설명하고, 원통형 가드전극계와 평행평판 전극계의 교정장치를 제안하였다. 교정실험 결과로부터 전장측정기의 주파수 대역과 감도는 각각 $17[Hz]{\sim}7[kHz]$, 4.45[mV/V/m]이었다. 또한 측정 가능한 최대 전장의 세기는 10[kV/m]이며, 측정 결과는 액정화면에 숫자로 표시된다. 본 전장측정기는 전력선, 컴퓨터 및 헤어드라이기나 히터와 같은 가전기기 등에서 방사되는 전장의 세기 측정에 광범위하게 적용될 것이다.
