Direct measurements of electric fields in a glow discharge are difficult because the measurement method should be sensitive to the electric field and non-intrusive. Laser spectroscopy is very suitable in that it is non-intrusive and allow in-situ measurements to be made. In this report, the measurement techniques of electric fields in glow discharge using laser spectroscopy were described.
For the measurement of time-varying electric fields and related quantities, a field sensor should be sensitive to the field to be measured, and also designed having an accurate transfer function. In this paper, a theoretical model which adequately describes the operation principle and design of the sensor is presented. A calibration and/or correction technique of the sensor is also studied which enables a precise determination of the response of the sensor to an electric field. As a result, the developed electric field sensor and measuring system are known to be accurate within a bandwidth from a few Hz to 200 MHz. It is found that the sensor can be used directly in the measurement of very fast transient voltages and time-varying electric fields occurring during disconnector operations in a gas-insulated substation. It may be useful also for the study on the electromagnetic environmental parameters.
The present paper deals with a new developed sensor for measuring the time-varying magnetic fields and describes the experimental results of trasient magnetic field that takes place during the operations of electric appliance. The operation principle of the self-integrating magnetic field sensor by using coaxial cable is analyzed and a calibration investigation is carried out. The frequency bandwidth of the magnetic field measurement system is from 40 Hz to about 300 kHz. The magnetic field induced by the starting and/or operation of electric appliance mainly includes the odd harmonics such as the third, the fifth and the seventh harmonics. The magnetic field intensity caused during the operation of ultrasonic washer is inversely proportional to distance, this correspodns to induction component. As a result, it was known that the odd harmonics of magnetic field in the desing of electromagnetic shield employed for protecting electronic circuit and control devices have to be considered.
Electromagnetic measurements of the power cable tunnel were conducted from August 10 to 20, 2018, in the ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ city underground utility tunnel. During this period, the average temperature was $31.89^{\circ}C$ and the humidity was 67.56% in power cable tunnel. As a result of the electromagnetic measurement, the highest electric field was 25.3 V/m and the magnetic flux density was $42.6{\mu}T$. The average electric field was 18.56 V/m and the magnetic flux density was $29.32{\mu}T$ in the power cable tunnel. As a result of comparison with the electric equipment technical standard, the electric field in the power cable tunnel was 0.5% of the electric equipment standard and 35.2% of the magnetic flux density. It's similar value that electric field is about robotic vacuum(15.53 V/m), and magnetic flux density is similar value about capsule- type coffee machine ($23.07{\mu}T$). The number of cable lines and the size of the electromagnetic waves were not proportional to each other through comparison of cable lines in the power cable tunnel. It was confirmed that 154 kV, rather than 22.9 kV, could have a greater influence on occupational.
In this paper, a novel optical measuring system for the measurement of nonuniform electric field was proposed. The electric field distorted by the discharges was detected through proposed optical measuring system based on the Pockets effect and Mach-Zehnder interferometer. In order to produce distorted electric field, corona discharge was generated from needle-plane electrode in air and detected by optical measuring system. This optical measuring system is constructed by He-Ne laser, single mode optical fiber, $2{\times}2$ 50/50 beam splitter, $LiNbO_3$ Pockets cell, photo detector and PC. In this system, output signal of Pockels sensor is measured by digital oscilloscope and transferred to the PC for recording and statistical processing. Through this paper, a promising possibilities of proto-type optical measuring system were evinced.
Laser diagnostic method in a plasma display discharge cell was introduced. The information of electric field, potential and electron temperature et al. in the surface of plasma display panel can be measured using laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy. However, because of the very small discharge dimension of ${\sim}$ 100 ${\mu}m$, the measurement attempt has almost not been performed. In this paper, the direct measurement possibility of the parameters and the recent work of electric field measurement are demonstrated in the plasma display panel.
In recent years, the electromagnetic environments are varied with the increase of power consumption and the spread of household electric appliances. Most of the interests to date have concentrated in the area of human health effects associated with exposure to power frequency electric and magnetic fields, and thus the precise measurement and analysis are required. In this paper, the measurements and analysis of the extremely low frequency(ELF) electric and magnetic fields produced by actual 22.9[kV] distribution lines were performed. The experiments have been carried out by lateral profile, and the theoretical analyses were made by use of FIELDS program for the sate of comparison with the experimental data. Electric and magnetic field intensity were strong under power distribution lines, and were inversely proportional to lateral distance. The profiles of electric and magnetic fields were M and ∩ shapes, respectively, and the measured data were good in agreement with the theoretical results. Both the electric and magnetic field intensity were increased with increasing the measurement height.
The commercial contract was made firstly in the world for one set of high temperature superconducting(HTS) cable system between buyer, Korea Electric Power Research Institute and seller, Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. in August 2004. After fabrication, test and examination, the HTS cable system will be installed at the KEPRI's test field in Gochang, Jeonbuk province from the time of July 2005. KEPRI is preparing measurement and test facilities for field test of the HTS cable system and carrying out researches into the design and construction of superconducting cable test building, evaluation of cooling performance, measurement of AC loss, analysis of the quench phenomena due to excess current and means of linking the HTS cable system to the existing electric power supplying system. The constitution of, the method to install and the plan of test operation of the HTS cable system will be presented in this paper.
This paper proposes a method to calibrate the electrode misplacement in underwater electric field sensor arrays (EFSAs) for accurate measurements of underwater electric field signatures. The electrode misplacement of an EFSA was estimated by measuring the electric field signatures generated by a known electric source and by comparing the measurements with the theoretical calculations under similar measurement conditions. When the EFSA measured the electric field signatures induced by an unknown electric source, the electric properties of the unknown electric source were approximated by considering the optimized estimation of the electrode misplacement of the EFSA. Finally, the measured electric field signatures were calibrated by calculating the theoretical electric field signatures to be measured with an ideally installed EFSA without electrode misplacement; the approximated electric properties of the unknown electric source were also taken into account. Simulations were conducted to test the proposed calibration method. The results showed that the electrode misplacement could be estimated. Further, the electric field measurements and the electric field-based localization of underwater vessels became more accurate after the application of the proposed calibration method. The proposed method will contribute to applications such as the detection and localization of underwater electric sources, which require accurate measurements of underwater electric field signatures.
The measurement of contact wire uplift in electric railways is one of the most important test parameters to accepting the maximum permitted speed of new electric vehicles and pantographs. The contact wire uplift can be measured over short periods when the pantograph passes monitoring stations. In this paper, a high-speed image measurement system and its image processing method are being developed to evaluate dynamic uplift of overhead contact wires caused by pantograph contact forces of Korea Tilting Train eXpress (TTX) and Korea Train eXpress (KTX). The image measurement system was implemented utilizing a high-speed CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) camera and gigabit ethernet LAN. Unlike previous systems, the uplift measurement system using high speed camera is installed on the side of the rail, making maintenance convenient. On-field verification of the uplift measurement system for overhead contact wire using high speed camera was conducted by measuring uplift of the TTX followed by operation speeds at the Honam conventional line and high-speed railway line. The proposed high-speed image measurement system to evaluate dynamic uplift of overhead contact wires shows promising on-field applications for high speed trains such as KTX and TTX.
