Data analysis included: percentage, average, SD, t-test, ANOVA, & Pearson correlation coefficiency. Participants in this study represented low level of family support but high level of physical health status and depression. There was a significant negative relation between family support and depression(r=-.755, P=.001). There was a significant relation between family support and physical health(r=.329, P=.001). There was a significant negative relation between depression and physical health status(r=-.515, P=.001). Nursing implications were suggested.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between social support and loneliness in elderly women living alone. Method: Between 1 October 2008 and 30 April 2009, a random sampling method was conducted to recruit 112 elderly women who were living alone. The subjects were at least 65 years of age. Data was collected using the social support questionnaire, and the translated Korean Version of the Revised University of California at Los Angeles Loneliness Scale (R-UCLA Loneliness Scale). Results: In our study, the sources of social support were the children, neighbours, brothers and sisters, in this order. We found that the loneliness of the subjects was related to age, the number of children, and financial difficulty. The level of loneliness negatively correlated with the social support provided by children, brothers and sisters, other relatives, and neighbours. Also, there was a negative correlation with the social support satisfaction. The social support satisfaction and the social support offered by neighbours and relatives were the significant predictors of loneliness. Conclusion: The sources of social support, such as neighbours and relatives, and the social support satisfaction should be considered when planning intervention by nurses or social workers to decrease the level of loneliness in elderly women living alone.
Purpose: To identify the health condition, home care support, support requirement of poor and elderly people living alone. Method: Data was collected through self-administered questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and correlation. Survey involved 269 conveniently selected who have a social support in H city. Result: Perceived health condition of subjects was bad to moderate (mean score: 2.22). There were significant home care support differences according to gender, religion, education level and dwelling pattern. Support requirement was influences only by the dwelling pattern. Perceived health condition showed a positive correlation with home care support of friends and neighbors, and a negative correlation with support requirement (medical, material, economic emotional support). Conclusion: These findings are expected to make a positive contribution to create an ideal intervention for public visiting nurses and social workers to improve the quality of life in poor and elderly people who live alone.

Method: The subjects of this study were 199 people aged over 60 who had been living in three rural areas. Date was collected through questionnaires from July 10th, to August 10th, 2003. Result: The most socially supportive people they answered were friends(80.9%), followed by children(74.9%), neighbors(71.9%), siblings(55.8%), spouse(53.3%), in descending order. Mean social support score for spouse was 13.36, for children 13.27, for friends 11.40, for neighbors 10.21, for siblings 10.20. A comparison of the average grade points per items according to the offerers of social support revealed spouse support(13.36 out of 18), children support(13.27), friends support(11.40), neighbor support(10.21), siblings support(10.20). The average of the quality of life score was 132.26 out of 220. A comparison of the average grade points per items within sub-areas of quality of life revealed the highest score of neighbor relationships(4.29 out of 5.00) and the lowest score of economic conditions (2.61) Quality of life scores correlated positively with social support scores(r=.734, p<.001). Variables significantly influencing quality of life were spouse support(36.1%), neighbor support (5.1%), age(2.2%), religion(1.7%). These variables explained 45.1% of the variance in quality of life. Conclusion: Social support for elderly people in rural areas identified this as a greatly effective factor for their quality of life. Therefore, it is necessary to develop health promotion programs connected with social support in order to enhance the quality of elderly people in rural areas.
China has already entered the aging society and is predicted to become a super-aged society in 2020. The recent studies identified that the elderly has more interest in 'Aging-in-Place' which emphasizes deinstitutionalization since welfare facilities such as care homes and silver towns have separated the elderly from their local communities where they used to live in. The aim of this research is to propose a promising way for smart housing services who support the elderly's living in their homes, China. This research is to investigate the elderly's life and to identify their demands on housings for implementing such smart services. The elderly's living in apartments in Luoyang city, China, were investigated through interviews using a questionnaire survey. The results show that smart housing services should be provided to support the elderly's health, safety, leisure activities, comfortable living, and social relationships sustainably. In addition, such smart housing services should be intuitive since the elderly need to use easily smart services for their autonomous life in their homes. The smart housing services should be developed in the direction of enhancing the elderly's healthy and desirable life, and lessening their discomforts due to aging.

And also, an institutional support should be provided for maintaining and expanding a stable social relationship network for the elderly's participation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the prevalence and the predictors of depression in elderly patients admitted to hospital. Methods: A sample of 157 subjects aged 65 and over was selected from a university hospital in Korea. Data were collected through self-reported questionnaires during the period from April to August 2012. The data were analyzed using t-tests, ANOVAs, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regressions with the SPSS/Win program. Results: The prevalence of depression was 54.8%; the mean score for depression was 17.30. Depression in elderly patients had a significant correlation with age, educational level, marital status, and perceived economy level from the demographic characteristics, self-efficacy, and family support. A hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed that a combination of self-efficacy and family support accounted for 27% of the depression in elderly patients. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that programs designed to effectively prevent and manage depression among elderly patients should consider variables such as self-efficacy and family support.
