The main objective of this study was to investigate how people prepare for old age by looking at financial statements from single-person households in Gyeonggi province; the policy implications regarding low fertility and population aging are considered. The subjects were members of 600 households who were aged 26 to 44 years old and not married. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, and dichotomous logistic regression using SPSS WIN 12.0. Respondents pointed out that financial problems are the greatest challenges for those facing old age in single-person households; they said that a stable job is the most important factor for secure living. About 57% of household residents responded that they have prepared for retirement, and a majority of them said they hoped to spend their elderly years with a marriage partner. The financial statements from single-person households were inferior to those from other types of households. The assets of single-person household members were less than those of other households. Only 10.5% of respondents have owned homes. The study discusses policy implications for those who want marriage and for those who don't want it. For those who want marriage, job-seeking support was proposed, and for the others, tax deductions and family programs for single-person households were proposed.
In research on housing welfare policy, there has been little interest in middle-aged households compared with young or elderly households. The purpose of this study was to explore influences on the housing satisfaction of middle-aged renter households using microdata from the Korea Housing Survey 2021. A statistical analysis of data was performed on a total of 2,709,152 middle-aged (aged between 40 and 64 years) Jeonse (lumpsum housing lease) renters and monthly renters with deposits, living in private rental housing units. The major findings were as follows. Firstly, there were significant differences in housing unit satisfaction and residential environment satisfaction among renter groups by age and rental type. Early-middle-aged Jeonse renters displayed the highest satisfaction with both housing units and the residential environment, while semielderly monthly renters with deposits displayed the lowest satisfaction. Secondly, living in aged structures or in apartment units exerted the strongest influences on housing satisfaction, which implies the need for residential area regeneration programs that consider the situation of rental households. Thirdly, living in Incheon and Gyeonggi-do was found to have a negative influence on housing satisfaction. Fourthly, upward filtering on tenure types or lease renewal of the current house did not necessarily have a positive influence on the housing satisfaction of middle-aged renters. Based on the findings, suggestions were made to improve the housing situation of middle-aged renter households.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to explore the general characteristics and health risk factors of the low income single person household in elderly Korean population for target selection of Korean medicine public health promotion program. Methods : We collect the 826 low income over 65 years old participants data from 7th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The demographic, life habit, health status, medical history were used to compare the difference between single and multiple low income senior households. Results : All variables except drinking and smoking were statistically significant between single and multiple low income senior households. The health risk factors in single low income senior households were gender, overweight, Medicaid, annual drinking habit, diagnosis of diabetes. Conclusions : Through this study, we found out that the overweight, monthly drinking habit, diagnosis of diabetes were health risk factors in low income senior single households.
This research is designed to study the residence environment of the elderly residing in three different types of residence - the local community, silver towns and nursing homes and compare their level of social support and life satisfaction of the residents. The subjects of the study was those aged 65 and older who live single and couple 68 residing in the local community, 32 in silver town and 32 in nursing homes. The result of analysis is as follows; 1) the residence environment is different in the three types of residence in terms of number of children, living with a spouse, subjective economic status, and participation in group activities; 2) as for social support, emotional support is the highest among the elderly residing in the local community and declines among those in silver town and the lowest in nursing homes, which suggests that the local community still maintain the support system for the elderly, however it declines in silver town and drop further in nursing homes. But in terms of instrumental support, there is no meaningful difference in the three types of residence. The result shows that the elderly residing in nursing homes are supported by systematic medical and residence service which make up for instrumental support Similar to those in the local community and silver town; 3) life satisfaction is the highest among those residing in nursing homes, however there was little meaningful difference. The result means quality of living is similar among three different types of residence. What is interesting is those living in nursing homes has similar level of life satisfaction despite their lowest emotional support.

With the increase of the elderly population, problem on social isolation and loneliness have grown in Korea. Elderly dwelling issues have also been gaining increased attention since dwelling environment is discussed in conjunction with elderly's health and life quality. In this study, the data was collected retrospectively of 350 elderlies who live as single households during 1 September, 2017 to 30 September to identify how to define and measure dwelling depression. The content validity and reliability were evaluated and the correlation between the depression and the dwelling satisfaction were compared. Lastly, a regression analysis on the classification of the dwelling depression was performed. The results show that depression appearing in elderly are more likely to experience a dwelling unsatisfaction. Our results contribute to an understanding and measurement of the dwelling depression which has not been sufficiently specified.
This study explored the characteristics, housing deficits and expectations for support programs of low-income renter households in housing poverty in order to provide housing policy development and improvement information. Microdata of the 2014 Korea Housing Survey was utilized as secondary data for this study. A total of 2,508,672 low-income renter households (weighted count) in the bottom 40% income ranks of entire general households living in private rental units were selected as study subjects. The major findings were as follows. (1) One point four percent of the subjects were living in non-house living quarters (e.g., shanties, vinyl greenhouses, container houses, and mud huts), 1.4% were in dosshouses, 9.9% were in basements, semi-basements or rooftop units, and 8.2% were in sub-standard units. (2) Among the households whose housing costs burdens were measurable, 75.7% were found to have housing cost burdens to pay 30% or more of their household income towards housing costs (rental costs and maintenance costs), but only 7.5% of the burdened households received a housing voucher. (3) Eighty-one percent were found to be in a housing poverty status as defined by the researcher; in addition, low-income renter households in housing poverty in Seoul tended to have a greater proportion of households headed by females, the elderly, and be persons with low-education or disabilities. (4) Households in housing poverty showed greater expectations for financial support and/or extended provisions of public rental housing than other low-income renter households.
Riboflavin, Ascorbin Acid & Vitamin D status of 74 elderly Korean (35 men and 39 women)from urban households in Incheon were evaluated by blood analysis. Mean EGR-AC value of men was 1.05 while that of women was 1.03. Marginal deficiency of riboflavin(EGR-AC 1.15-1.35) was shown in 33.3% of men and 20% of women. Average plasma ascorbic acid contents of subjects were very low and men had significantly lower amount than women(0.23mg/㎗ vs 0.44mg/㎗). The percentages of subjects who had plasma ascorbic acid less than 0.4mg/㎗ were 88.9% of men and 45% of women. Mena serum Calcium, Inorganic phosphate contents and mean serum ALP activity of men were 9.97mg/㎗, 3.28mg/㎗ and 61.85 Unit/L respectively and those of women were 9.78mg/㎗, 3.49mg/㎗ and 67.80Unit/L respectively. From these results, Vitamin D status of subjects was considered to be normal.

The purpose of this study was to analyze financial management and satisfaction of the elderly households using System’s Approach. 1) Financial management behavior was influenced by age, present job, husband’s job before retirement, assets, family income, living expenses, experiences of financial management. 2) Financial satisfaction was influenced by age, present job, husband’s job before retirement, assets, family income, living expenses, experiences of financial management, and assessment of family financial conditions. 3) The result of regression analysis of input variables on the throughput variable showed that age of respondent and the middle age experiences of financial management emerged as predictors of financial management. There variables accounted for 48% of variance in the financial management behavior. 4) When financial satisfaction was regressed against input and throughput variables, 55% of the total variance of the financial satisfaction was explained by financial goal and assessment of family conditions.

Due to difficulty of marriage with women in Korea, unmarried men in countryside tend to have an international marriage. A ratio of international marriage was 3.7% in 2004, but increased by over 10% in 2004 due to the change of population composition in countryside. Without social or national preparation on a multicultural family and an increase of elder who lives alone made problems such as changes of population composition in countryside, a high rate of divorce due to differences on culture and society. These problems are becoming critical problems in countryside, not only for a family. This Study has a purpose as below, Firstly, this study will examine living place of elder who live alone and multicultural families. Secondly, characteristics of using each space will be analyzed and then surveyed efficiency and satisfaction. The result of survey will be provided to space planning for improvement of living standard. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: The characteristics of the surveyed households, the elderly ratio of 70 to 80 units high, and when the elderly become less than 10 years, 51.6%, 77.4% of women were overwhelmingly high. The characteristics of multicultural families in the in the middle or early 2000s when immigration is concentrated and national origin in Vietnam was 66.7 %. Housing characteristics of households with elderly housing type, the ratio improved to 61.3% is Majority. Type strain and 29% in traditional houses, traditional housing type is 9.7%. And house of multicultural families improve housing type is 87.5% Majority. The main space of the housing for the elderly, most are usually satisfied. But generally low level of self-determined housing survey confers real. These results have lived a long time because of space adaptation and can be viewed as attachment. For the elderly passive use of space and simplify the Act and heating cooling at the expense of the use of housing space due to the reduction, but multicultural families is the space required for the growth of their children because there are more modifications required.

This study aims to figure out the old people's needs for modification of their housing to maintain an independent lifestyle despite their health status and living arrangements. The total of 438 residents take part in the questionnaire survey research through the quota sampling method grouped by age (60-64 group, 65-69 group, 70-74 group, and over 75 group), sex (male and female), and house type (apartment houses and others). The results are as follows. (1) The old people's most inspired modification needs in interior spaces are remodeling the heating controls in the living room and the bedroom, ventilation facilities and storage spaces in the kitchen, non-slip tile flooring and ventilation facilities in bathroom, an easy door-lock, non-slip tile flooring, a draft cut-off, and storage spaces in the entrance. Besides they require emergency alarm, easy door and window locks, fire and gas alarm, and furniture with easy handling. It is necessary to supply the aged with the appropriate heating controls for their sensitivity to heat, with enough storage spaces for the increased possessions, and with diverse safety systems reflected blunting of mobility and sensibility. (2) As they grow older, the aged require more remote controls and safety facilities such as emergency alarm, easy locks and furniture with distinguishable colors. Male elderly is more concerned with safety, while female elderly do with convenience due to their different time spending in the house. The elderly residents in the apartment houses require the heating controls, a draft cut-off, and storage space less than other types of houses. Thus modification of the heating controls, a draft cut-off, and storage space are regards as basic needs for the elderly residents in non-apartment houses.
